Hotel Description
I stumbled upon The Hatter’s Venice Apartment during one of those misty autumn trips to Venice, you know, when the crowds thin out a bit and the city feels more like a living postcard than a tourist trap. Tucked away in the heart of Dorsoduro – that’s the quieter, artsy sestiere across the Grand Canal from San Marco – it’s right off a narrow calle near the Fondamenta Zattere, where you can grab a gelato and watch the boats bob along the Giudecca Canal. Honestly, finding it was a breeze if you’re coming from the Accademia vaporetto stop; just a five-minute wander past those funky little galleries and the occasional cat lounging on a windowsill. No cars in Venice, obviously, so parking isn’t even a thing – thank goodness, because who wants to deal with that hassle? Check-in was super laid-back; the host met me at the door with a key and a quick rundown of the neighborhood spots, like that hidden osteria around the corner on Calle Lunga San Barnaba where locals sip spritzes without the markup. The building itself has that classic Venetian charm – think creaky wooden beams and slightly uneven stone steps that make you feel like you’re stepping back in time, though I will say, if you’ve got heavy luggage, those stairs might give you a workout. But once you’re up there, the place opens up into this cozy, four-star apartment setup that’s way more homey than your standard hotel room.
What really won me over, though, was how it captures that authentic Venice vibe without skimping on the comforts. The apartment’s got these tall windows overlooking a quiet courtyard – no canal view, mind you, but that’s actually a plus if you want to avoid the constant hum of gondola serenades keeping you up at night. I mean, Dorsoduro is peaceful after dark, especially in the off-season, with just the faint lapping of water and maybe a distant church bell. Inside, it’s all soft linens on the king bed, a little kitchenette stocked with basics (I whipped up espresso every morning from beans I picked up at the Rialto market), and even a washer-dryer combo that saved me on a rainy day. The decor’s quirky – hence the “Hatter’s” name, I suppose, with some whimsical hats and Alice in Wonderland nods scattered about – but it’s tasteful, not over-the-top. And the bathroom? Spotless, with those heated towel racks that feel like a hug after traipsing through foggy streets. Sure, the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours – Venice’s old walls aren’t always kind to signals – but it was fine for checking emails or streaming a show. Being in Dorsoduro means you’re steps from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, which is a must if you’re into modern art, and it’s an easy stroll to Campo Santa Margherita for evening people-watching and cheap cicchetti. I loved how it felt removed from the San Marco chaos, yet connected – you can hop a vaporetto to anywhere, but honestly, wandering these back calli is half the fun.
Look, if you’re plotting a Venice escape and want something that feels real, not just a pit stop, The Hatter’s is a solid pick with its 9.2 rating earned fair and square. It’s not the cheapest – rates can climb in summer when everyone’s flocking here – but for what you get, that blend of privacy, location, and those little thoughtful touches like fresh fruit on arrival, it’s worth it. I’ve stayed in flashier spots over the years, but this one sticks with me for how it let me live like a local, sipping coffee while the city woke up around me. Well, sort of – minus the daily commute on a boat. If you’re traveling solo or as a couple, book it; just pack light and embrace the stairs. You won’t regret waking up to that Venetian light filtering in.

Great stay! – Seth from United States – 6 June 2025 (10/10)
Great location near a water bus stop. Everybody slept really well here and we also enjoyed having extra power converters offered by the property. Overall, Venice was my family's favorite city in Italy and it starts with where we stayed!
What could be improved: Needed extra sheets for our son that slept on the sofa. We used the comforter off of our bed for him.Exceptional – Audrey from Australia – 4 May 2025 (10/10)

Incredible location, communication, comfortable bedding, large bathrooms and actual wash cloths! 🤣 Very thin walls so make sure to have a white noise or fan. Not a very populated area, but its enough to hear everyone walk by

We loved the quirky bits and bobs (kids loved the hats) location and space. The apartment is huge! Fabulous neighbourhood close to Campo Santa Margarita and easy walking distance to main sights. Quiet night sleep as well and air con was lovely during main heat of August. Little things like water in fridge and coffee were nice touches. Reliable contact from hosts, no issues at all.
