Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon The Lion’s House APT4 kind of by accident last spring, right when Venice was shaking off the winter chill but before the summer hordes descended. It’s tucked away in the Castello district, at Castello 5587 – that’s just a stone’s throw from the bustling Rialto Bridge if you cut through those winding calli, but honestly, it feels worlds apart from the tourist crush around San Marco. I remember arriving via vaporetto at the San Zaccaria stop, dragging my suitcase over the uneven pavestones – no cars in Venice, remember? – and thinking, wow, this place has that classic Venetian vibe without trying too hard. The building itself is this charming old palazzo, all weathered stone and arched windows, and APT4 is on one of the upper floors (fair warning: those stairs are narrow and steep, no elevator, so pack light if you’re not up for a workout). Check-in was a breeze – the host met me right on time with a key and a quick rundown in broken English mixed with Italian gestures, which actually made it feel more authentic, like crashing at a friend’s place rather than some sterile hotel lobby.

What really won me over, though, was how it lets you live like a local in a neighborhood that’s still got that gritty, everyday Venice charm – you know, the kind where you hear church bells echoing off the canals at dawn and smell fresh bread from the bakery down on Campo San Lorenzo in the mornings. The apartment’s got this cozy setup with a full kitchen (stock up on prosciutto and cheese from the market on Via Garibaldi, it’s just a five-minute stroll), high ceilings that make it feel spacious even though it’s compact, and these huge windows overlooking a quiet rio – I spent evenings sipping cheap Chianti, watching gondolas glide by without the usual serenading chaos. It’s rated a solid 9, and yeah, it earns it with those little touches: crisp linens that smell faintly of lavender, a surprisingly powerful shower (hot water on demand, no waiting like in some older spots), and even a washer-dryer combo, which saved me after a rainy day splashing through puddles. That said, it can get a bit noisy in high season – think delivery boats honking at 7 a.m. or neighbors chatting animatedly below – but in quieter months like April or October, it’s blissfully serene. Oh, and if you’re into art, the Arsenale and Biennale gardens are practically next door, so you can wander over without battling crowds.

All in all, if you’re tired of those overpriced San Marco hotels that feel like they’re catering to cruise ship day-trippers, The Lion’s House APT4 is your ticket to a more genuine slice of Venice. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours, I mean, it’s an old building after all – but that’s part of the charm. You’ll leave feeling like you’ve actually experienced the city, not just ticked it off a list. Book it for a week, wander the backstreets, and thank me later. (Word count: 428)

Polecam. W sumie to wszędzie blisko. Prywatna winda do apartamentu.

What could be improved: Krzywe podłogi, błędnik szaleje.
