The Venice Times Overview

First Impressions

Walking down the narrow Calle Priuli dei Cavalletti in Cannaregio, you might almost miss The Venice Times — but honestly, that’s part of its charm. This four-star boutique hotel sits tucked away in what locals know is one of Venice‘s most authentic neighborhoods, away from the tourist chaos around San Marco. The entrance feels intimate and welcoming, like you’re being let into someone’s beautifully restored Venetian home rather than checking into a typical hotel.

The Cannaregio Advantage

You know what I love about this location? It’s where actual Venetians still live and work. The hotel sits just a few minutes’ walk from the train station — which sounds touristy but actually means you can easily explore the outer islands without the hassle. There’s this fantastic little bacaro around the corner where you’ll find locals having their morning coffee, and the nearby Strada Nova gives you that perfect mix of authentic shops and practical services. Couples especially seem to get this area (they rate the location 9.6, which honestly makes sense when you experience those quiet evening strolls along the less crowded canals).

Sleep Quality That Actually Matters

I’ll be straight with you — Venice can be noisy, especially near the main tourist areas. But The Venice Times has somehow nailed the sweet spot of being accessible without the constant foot traffic echoing outside your window. The beds here are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel marketing speak), and after walking on those stone streets all day, you’ll appreciate how well you actually sleep. Each room feels thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter, with those classic Venetian touches that remind you where you are without going overboard on the theme.

Morning Fuel

The breakfast setup is a proper buffet — nothing fancy, but it covers what you need to start your day exploring. I mean, you’re in Venice, so you’ll probably want to grab coffee and pastries from local spots anyway, but it’s nice having a solid foundation. The breakfast area has this relaxed morning atmosphere where you can actually plan your day without feeling rushed, which is more valuable than you might think when you’re trying to navigate Venice’s maze of streets and bridges.

Why Guests Love It

The Venice Times works because it gets the fundamentals right without trying too hard. The 9.1 rating reflects what you’ll find — a well-run hotel that understands its guests want comfort, location, and authenticity over flashy amenities. You’re staying in a neighborhood where you can duck into a local osteria for dinner, pick up fresh bread from the morning market, and still reach the major sights within a reasonable walk. It’s that balance between being part of Venice’s real rhythm while having a comfortable, quiet retreat to return to each evening.

Best hotels in Venice blend frescoed salons, marble hammams, and rooftop altanas for prosecco sunsets.

Reviews of The Venice Times

  • John from Australia – 30 March 2025 (9/10)

Great property. Large room. Very clean. Great location.

  • Trego-cash from United States – 24 March 2025 (9/10)

Hotel breakfast was great. Proximity to Santa Lucia Train Station is convenient. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Hotel is aesthetically beautiful.

What could be improved: The shower was very small, with a huge rainfall spigot. You had nowhere to get away from the spray when you lather. Also, the floor was VERY slippery in the shower and there was no ledge for your toiletries. The lift is tiny. There was the smell of sewer gas coming from the bathroom, but this is a common problem in Venice, since all hotels have sewer holding tanks. When you flush or shower, this happens.

  • Yi from Malaysia – 14 March 2025 (10/10)

Definitely will book this hotel if I return back to Venice

The bathroom for the cosy room was very narrow but not a problem. Aircon is a bit noisy, but overall, we would definitely come back again!
