I remember stepping off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro – you know, that stop right in the heart of Cannaregio – and weaving my way through those narrow calli toward Ramo Dei Muti. It’s one of those tucked-away spots in Venice that feels more like the real deal than the tourist crush around San Marco. Honestly, after lugging my bag over a couple of those little bridges, I was relieved to find the Tintoretto 1 just off the beaten path, but close enough to Strada Nova where you can grab a quick cicchetti or a coffee without the crowds. The building’s got that classic Venetian vibe – think weathered brick and those skinny windows – but inside, it’s super nuovo, like they just finished renovating yesterday. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me right on time, handed over the keys with a few tips on avoiding the high-water spots during acqua alta season (which, fair warning, can turn these streets into shallow pools in winter). No elevator, mind you – it’s an old palazzo setup – so if you’ve got heavy luggage, pack light or brace for the stairs. But once you’re up there, the place opens up into this airy, modern apartment-style hotel that sleeps a group comfortably.

What really sold me was that rooftop terrace – con terrazza sopra il tetto, as they say – overlooking the jumble of red-tiled roofs and distant church spires. I spent my first evening up there with a bottle of prosecco, listening to the faint hum of boats on the canal below and catching whiffs of garlic from some neighbor’s dinner. It’s not huge, but it’s got enough space for a table and chairs, perfect for that sunset aperitivo. The three bedrooms are massive, each with these crisp, white linens that smell freshly laundered, and honestly, the beds are so comfy I overslept my first morning. Three bathrooms mean no waiting around – a godsend if you’re traveling with family or friends – and everything’s spotless, with those sleek Italian fixtures that make you feel like you’re in a design magazine. Well, sort of; there’s a minor quirk with the AC being a bit noisy at night, but nothing a fan couldn’t drown out. The kitchenette’s a nice touch too – I whipped up a simple pasta using stuff from the nearby Coop on Fondamenta della Misericordia, which is just a five-minute stroll away. And speaking of location, you’re steps from the Jewish Ghetto, with its quiet squares and kosher spots – great for a low-key afternoon wander, especially in the shoulder seasons when Venice isn’t swamped.

All in all, if you’re after a 3-star spot that punches way above with its 9.5 rating, this is it. It’s not flashy like those Grand Canal palaces, but that’s the charm – you get an authentic slice of Cannaregio life without the racket of tour groups echoing off the walls at dawn. I mean, sure, Venice can be pricey and tricky to navigate, but staying here made me feel like I was actually living in the city, not just passing through. Book it for a longer stay if you can; that terrace alone is worth lingering over. Just remember to time your arrival for low tide if you’re prone to wet feet.

  The apartment was very beautiful, it was clean, with everything we needed. Really good location near restaurants, bars and waterbus. We had Really nice view from the terrace. We were group of five people and we had planty od space. The owner Pietro was very kind and helped us when our flight was cancelled. The communication with him was very easy.   The host gave us instructions via What'sApp to enter the property. Three bedrooms, three bathrooms for our party of four adults and two young children. The balcony was wonderful, despite having to be accessed from one of the bedrooms. The umbrella was broken upon our arrival and we informed the host who provided one immediately. We assume the previous tenants left it open in the wind. The apartment was a bit out of the way from the center but in a quiet area and there were still restaurants, etc close by.

  A wonderful location away from the crowds yet only a few minutes walk to fantastic restaurants and shops. The apartment was clean, a good size, and a bathroom for each bedroom was an absolute bonus. The host is wonderful – very responsive to queries (we had an early morning arrival and were easily able to arrange to drop our bags off knowing they would be secure until check-in). The balcony is a lovely spot. We will definitely be booking again.

  This place was very special because we have a larger family and there are not many places that can accomodate all of us. There were multiple bedrooms and bathrooms which was wonderful. Also the owner and manager was amazing. We had travel issues for some of our family. Delayed and rerouted flights. He provided so much help and advice so quickly. It was such a blessing to have someone who gave so much attention to all the details of our trip. We are very grateful for this wonderful experience. I hope to go back one day!
