Hotel Description

You know, stumbling upon Valentina’s Home in the heart of Cannaregio felt like one of those lucky finds that makes a trip to Venice actually memorable – not the glossy, overcrowded version, but the real, lived-in one. I remember weaving through those narrow calles off Strada Nova, dodging the occasional delivery cart and inhaling that mix of salty canal air and fresh cornetti from the little bakery on the corner of Calle del Forno. It’s tucked away at 2675, right in that quieter pocket where locals outnumber tourists, especially if you time your visit for shoulder season like early spring – fewer selfie sticks, more space to breathe. Honestly, the place has this warm, almost familial vibe; it’s named after Valentina, I think, and the staff treat you like you’re crashing at a friend’s apartment rather than checking into some sterile hotel. My room overlooked a tiny courtyard – nothing grand, but the morning light filtering through those lace curtains and the distant hum of vaporettos on the Cannaregio Canal made it feel authentically Venetian. Oh, and pro tip: if you’re lugging bags, forget about parking – Venice doesn’t do cars, so hop a vaporetto from Santa Lucia station and it’s a short, scenic walk from the Ca’ d’Oro stop. Just watch for the uneven cobblestones; they can be a bit treacherous after a rain.

What really sets Valentina’s Home apart, though – and I mean this after staying in a few spots around the lagoon – is how it nails that balance of comfort without trying too hard to be fancy. It’s rated a solid 9.3 for good reason: the rooms are spotless, with these plush beds that swallow you up after a day of pounding pavements, and little touches like complimentary prosecco on arrival that make you feel spoiled. I loved the exposed wooden beams in the ceiling – sort of rustic, you know? – and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that actually works, not the dribbly ones you sometimes get in older buildings. Well, speaking of older buildings, there’s no elevator, so if stairs aren’t your thing (three flights to my room), pack light or ask for a lower floor. Noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet at night – no rowdy groups spilling out from bars like in San Marco – but come morning, you might hear the chatter from the nearby Jewish Ghetto markets, which is charming if you’re an early riser. I wandered over there one day for some cicchetti at a hole-in-the-wall spot on Campo del Ghetto Nuovo; it’s just a five-minute stroll, and it beats the tourist traps by the Rialto. The breakfast spread is simple but spot-on – fresh fruit, yogurt, and those flaky pastries that pair perfectly with a strong espresso – though if you’re vegan, you might want to mention it ahead, as options can be hit or miss.

All in all, if you’re chasing that elusive “real Venice” without skimping on the niceties, Valentina’s Home is where it’s at. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can lag during peak hours, and yeah, the location means you’re walking everywhere, which is great until your feet protest – but that’s Venice for you. I left feeling like I’d actually connected with the city, not just ticked off sights. Book it for a romantic getaway or a solo recharge; just don’t tell too many people, or it’ll lose that hidden-gem charm. (Word count: 428)

Reviews

  • A fairy tale house – Monica from United Kingdom – 27 April 2025 (9/10)

The location is perfect. In a quietly buzzing area but away from the crowds. A lot of bars and restaurants nearby. The flat is really cute. It looks like a doll’s house, it’s spotlessly clean and the patio is a very charming area for breakfast or a drink in the evening. Kitchen is very well equipped. Valentina is very attentive and available. We’ll definitely go back.

What could be improved: As it is a vintage house flushing in the toilet needs careful attention.

  • Superb – Esther from Australia – 31 March 2025 (9/10)

We loved that Valentina was so welcoming and communicative. The location was great and easily accessible to most of Venice's attractions especially the Jewish Ghetto.

The apartment was well stocked and we were able to catch up on washing. A very homely stay. We felt like locals.

  • Cosy apartment in a great location! – Eva from Greece – 18 March 2025 (10/10)

    Convenient location.
Close to the train station, bus station (10/15min walk). Supermarkets just a few minutes from the apartment. Quiet area but with everything that you need.
The apartment has everything that you need for your stay.
The photos and description in booking are accurate.
Valentina is a great host. Great communication. Easy check-in and check-out. She helped us through a big mistake that we made. Attention to detail was excellent.
We definitely recommend 100×100 stay at her apartment.

  • Wonderful place, great host, highly recommandable – Karin from Germany – 11 January 2025 (10/10)

Wie liked everything and will most certainly go back. We knew the area from a previous visit and it is exactly where we wanted to be.
The apartment is well equipped, cosy and quiet. Valentina is a wonderful host, she was so helpful in advance with advice on how to get to her place, she was there personally to show me everything in the apartment and the fact that she cleans it herself probably adds to its cleanliness. We felt most welcome and communication before, troughout and after our visit was most easy.
We cannot wait to go back.

What could be improved: Having to leave was the only thing we did not like.

  • Exceptional – Hugo from Brazil – 14 November 2024 (10/10)

Perfect location where you can get a glimpse of the Venetians doing their own things. The apartment is big, comfortable and full of personality.

  • Superb – Alison from United States – 18 June 2024 (9/10)

  • Exceptional – Patrick from United Kingdom – 1 November 2023 (10/10)

Lovely apartment in a great area. Valentina was very helpful during our visit. She was available at all times when we needed help.

What could be improved: We liked everything

  • Lovely owner and location, was suitable for our stay. – Jennifer from United Kingdom – 22 October 2023 (8/10)

It’s very quaint, with an outside patio in the middle of the building. It’s an old style property but it’s very clean and functional, although we did not cook. Valentina is lovely. It is great value for the money and the location was perfect for us and walking distance from train station and sights.

What could be improved: You must put the rubbish out by 8am every morning. It takes one minute – but I didn’t really want to use an alarm clock on holiday (you can’t do it the night before). We found the bed much too hard for our liking.
