I mean, it’s not smack in the middle of the Piazza San Marco chaos, but you’re just a quick 10-minute stroll over the bridge to Rialto or a vaporetto hop to the Arsenale if you’re into that naval history vibe. Arriving by water taxi from the airport was a breeze, though fair warning: Venice being Venice, there’s no parking – everything’s on foot or by boat, so pack light. The check-in was sort of low-key; no fancy lobby, just a friendly host who met me at the door with a key and a quick rundown in broken English mixed with Italian gestures. It smelled faintly of that canal-side humidity, you know, the kind that’s part earthy, part salty, but nothing overpowering – actually, it added to the authentic feel.

What really won me over, though, was how this 3-star suite punches above its weight for an 8.1 rating. It’s not a massive hotel; more like a converted apartment in one of those old Venetian buildings with creaky wooden floors and exposed beams that make you feel like you’re crashing at a friend’s place – well, a friend with decent taste in decor. My room had this cozy setup with a small kitchenette (perfect for brewing espresso from that corner market on Calle de la Formosa, where locals grab their morning cornetto), and the bed was surprisingly comfy, though the pillows were a tad flat – nothing a quick fluff couldn’t fix. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet for Venice; you might hear the occasional church bell from nearby San Zaccaria or a boat chugging by in the early hours, but it’s not the constant buzz of San Marco. I loved popping out for evening walks along the Riva degli Schiavoni, dodging the gelato crowds, or ducking into that tiny bacaro on Campo San Filippo e Giacomo for cicchetti and a spritz – it’s just a stone’s throw away, and honestly, that’s where the real Venice magic happens, away from the tour groups. Oh, and if you’re here in summer, book ahead; things get busy with festivals, but shoulder season like October? Blissfully calm, with that golden light hitting the canals just right.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to dip into Venice’s soul without the overpriced frills, this place is a solid pick. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak times, and there’s no elevator, so stairs might be a haul with luggage – but for the price, it delivers that genuine, lived-in charm that makes you feel like you’ve unlocked a secret. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for those lazy mornings sipping coffee on the balcony, watching the neighborhood wake up. Trust me, it’s the kind of spot that sticks with you long after you’ve left the lagoon.

  We all loved the character and comfort of the property. It was in a great location and offered a fantastic amount of space for our large, multigenerational family group.
  
  We had all the facilities we needed. I’d describe the decor and things like bedding, cooking equipment and crockery as quirky (in a happily mis-matched sort of way) but that was perfect for us given our budget (and travelling with young children, we didn’t want to be staying somewhere immaculate or too fancy).
  
  I only rated cleanliness slightly lower because the shared hall and stairway to the property was quite a mess when we arrived and throughout stay but that didn’t really matter and I am not sure that is the responsibility of Venice Suites.
  
  We had excellent communication with staff and were met off the ferry and taken to the flat on arrival which was super helpful, friendly and reassuring.

  Great location. Very very spacious. All the amenities a big group would need on a long trip. It's on the third floor with no elevator but we managed fine with heavy luggage.
