Venezia Biennale Bianco & Rosso Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Calle Catapan in the Castello district, you might almost miss Venezia Biennale Bianco & Rosso — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique hotel sits tucked away in one of Venice‘s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’ll hear more Italian than tourist chatter echoing off the ancient walls. The entrance feels intimate rather than grand, which I actually prefer — it’s like discovering a well-kept local secret rather than checking into another cookie-cutter hotel.
The Castello Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Castello — you’re close enough to San Marco to walk there in minutes, but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night. The hotel’s location score of 9.6 isn’t just marketing fluff; couples consistently rave about it because you get that perfect balance of accessibility and tranquility. You know what’s really nice? You can step out for an early morning coffee at the local bar around the corner and feel like you’re living in Venice, not just visiting it. The Biennale venues are practically on your doorstep when the art festival is running, which explains the hotel’s name and why art lovers keep coming back.
The Rooms
The room I stayed in had that classic Venetian feel — think exposed beams and traditional touches without feeling like a museum piece. What struck me most was how they’ve managed to blend old-world character with modern comfort; the air conditioning actually works (trust me, this matters in summer), and the Wi-Fi is reliable throughout the building. The “Bianco & Rosso” theme plays out subtly in the décor — white linens with red accents that feel sophisticated rather than gimmicky. Storage space is decent for Venice standards, though like most historic buildings here, don’t expect a massive wardrobe.
Neighborhood Life
One thing that really sets this area apart is how it feels during different times of day. Mornings bring the sound of delivery boats and locals heading to work, while evenings have this lovely quiet energy as residents return home. There’s a fantastic little restaurant just two bridges away that serves some of the best cicchetti I’ve had — the kind of place you’d never find without staying in this neighborhood. The nearby Campo Santa Maria Formosa becomes your local piazza, where you can grab groceries or just sit with a spritz and watch Venetian life unfold.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.5 rating really reflects what this hotel does well — it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Venice, but it nails the fundamentals while giving you an authentic neighborhood experience. Couples especially seem to appreciate how romantic the area feels after dark, when the narrow streets are lit by warm lamplight and the tourist crowds have thinned out. I mean, there’s something special about having your own quiet corner of Venice to retreat to, especially when that corner happens to be in one of the city’s most charming districts. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next Venice trip before you’ve even checked out.
To book a hotel in Venice during Biennale openings, guests juggle Giardini previews with lagoon aperitivo cruises.

We stayed at the apartment during the carnival. Our daughter was able to join us for a few day and the owner of the apartment was able to accommodate an additional person. Location was perfect for us. It is quite, near to water public transportation and a beautiful park. To walk to Mark's square is about 25 min. This apartment is spacious, comfortable, and cosy. We had everything we needed and it will be nice to have a cutting board.

This is a really good apartment, situated in a quiet part of Venice. The host provides lots of really good information before you get there, make sure you read it, it helps a lot. Lots of restaurants nearby. If you are in Venice for Bienalle, this is the place to stay.
What could be improved: Two floors up, but that is in the info provided by the host, so it's not an issue.Andrew from Australia – 13 June 2024 (9/10)
Great location, in with the locals and away from the Russell and bussel, but close enough to walk to it all.
What could be improved: Shower is a bit slow to drain, suggest maintenance.Kay from Italy – 13 June 2024 (9/10)
We didn't have a breakfast option included, but that was no issue for us really.
We were warned that we would be cramped when we added an extra person to our booking but in fact it was very spacious.
The washing machine was fantastic. Great to be able to do our laundry there.
Close to great restaurant and convenient shopping – fantastic!
Loved how peaceful it was – would come back just for that!
Five minutes walk to supermarket and chemists.
Handy to vaporetto.
What could be improved: The stair "treads" were very small, and we have big feet! But we coped well as we had very little luggage. Being older I did hold on to the rails when going downstairs.Elisa from Canada – 20 May 2024 (8/10)
Great location, very clean. Super friendly staff. Very spacious. Totally worth it
What could be improved: It was a bit noisy in the building. There was some weird bird or pet that squaked here and there during the day and night.Dave from United Kingdom – 19 September 2023 (9/10)
Beautiful apartment, great communication pre check-in and kindly allowed later checkout. Fantasticly equipped kitchen, great aircon,, spacious and spotless and comfy bed. Great location a 15 minute walk from the mayhem that is central venice. Great restaurants very nearby too!
What could be improved: If you don't like stairs be aware but not a problem otherwise. Shower a bit tired but generally we loved it!Gábor from Slovakia – 11 July 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: The stairs to get to the appartmentAaron from United Kingdom – 18 June 2023 (9/10)
Great location for visiting the Biennale. Very close to shops and restaurants with easy access to the Alilaguna and water taxis. We were able to drop off bags after an early flight and check in was easy. Pietro was helpful and efficient. The apartment is well equipped and very good value for the four nights stayed in Venice.

located in a lovely quiet part of town but still close enough to walk everywhere
What could be improved: nothing comes to mind
