Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Venice and Venice Apartments after a long vaporetto ride from the train station – you know, the Santa Lucia one, where everyone piles off looking a bit dazed from the journey. It’s tucked away on Cannaregio 5508, right in the heart of Cannaregio, which honestly feels like the real Venice, away from the San Marco crowds. I mean, you’re just a quick wander over the Rialto Bridge – maybe 10 minutes if you don’t get lost in those narrow calli – but far enough that you escape the constant hum of tour groups. The place is basically private rooms in a shared apartment setup, like crashing at a friend’s place but with your own lock and key. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me at the door with a warm “benvenuto” and a quick rundown of the house rules – nothing fussy, just keep the shared kitchen tidy, that sort of thing. Oh, and no cars in Venice, obviously, so parking isn’t even a worry; I left my luggage at the station and walked, dodging the occasional pigeon and inhaling that briny canal scent mixed with espresso from the corner cafés.
What really won me over was how lived-in it all felt – not in a grungy way, but authentically Venetian. My room was simple, with those high ceilings and wooden beams you see in old palazzos, and a view out to a quiet courtyard where you could hear the faint lap of water against stone in the evenings. The shared bits, like the living area and kitchen, were spotless, with fresh linens and a coffee maker that actually worked (a godsend after those early mornings hunting for a decent cappuccino). I shared with a couple of other travelers – one from Spain, chatting about hidden spots like the Jewish Ghetto nearby, which is just a stone’s throw away and has these amazing falafel places if you’re tired of pasta. Noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful; Cannaregio quiets down after dark, especially off-season in fall when the fog rolls in and everything gets that misty, romantic vibe. But fair warning, during high season like summer or Carnevale, you might hear the buzz from Strada Nova, the main drag a block over, with its shops and gelaterias – it’s lively, not overwhelming, but earplugs could help if you’re a light sleeper. And the bathroom? Shared but modern, with hot water that didn’t quit on me, unlike some budget spots I’ve tried.
Honestly, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Venice rather than just visiting, this place is a gem – that 8.8 rating doesn’t lie. It’s not luxury (three stars, after all), but for the price, you get that insider access: pop out for fresh produce at the Rialto market in the morning, or stroll to Campo Santi Apostoli for a quiet spritz at sunset. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a secret – well, sort of, since it’s popular with repeat visitors. Book early if you’re coming in peak times; it’s worth it for that homey touch in a city that can feel so transient.

I liked everything very much, there was a hairdryer in the room, and there was also coffee and tea. Everything is suitable for cooking. Nice accommodation, friendly hostess Monika.
Great location and great hosts! – Connie from United States – 29 October 2024 (9/10)
The location in Venice was great. Very central to a lot of activities. The building was awesome and the courtyard was beautiful, especially at night. Bed was very comfortable and the hot water maker in the room with coffee packets was used everyday.
What could be improved: The shower could have drained a bit better. After every shower I was standing in a few inches of water. Not sure if that's just how it works in Venice, or if there was a bit of a plumbing problem. It was a minor inconvenience.Superb – Jennifer from United States – 1 October 2024 (9/10)
It was a great location and was very clean. Hosts were responsive and nice. Room was big and comfortable.
What could be improved: Door to the hall was thin so you could hear other guests when they weren’t in their room. (Some guests also just weren’t cognizant of others and were loud at night, no fault of the staff).Stay in Venice – Andrea from Australia – 25 September 2024 (8/10)
The room, bathroom and apartment were excellent: clean, spacious and with ample facilities. Lovely view over a canal and not far from Via di Roma, Ospitalle, and Rialto bridge. Great host!
What could be improved: Nothing the host can control: the noise from boats speeding past at night, often with loud music on. Venice council or water police has to introduce speed limits and noise restrictions!
We would have preferred softer pillows.Great value for money!!! – Nikola from Serbia – 14 August 2024 (10/10)
Awesome location! Great view on gondolas. Spacious, clean rooms with big bathrooms and mirrors. A fully working AC (with a few options to use). The host lets you store luggage before and after check-in/check-out and responds quickly. Super attentive and respects guest privacy.
What could be improved: Not a big deal, but don’t open your windows at night. There aren’t many mosquitoes, but since you’re near the canal, it’s better to be safe.
