Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Venice Heaven Apartments Ca’ Giulia almost by accident last summer – I was tired of those overpriced hotels right on the Grand Canal, and honestly, I wanted something that felt more like crashing at a friend’s place in the real Venice, not the tourist trap version. Tucked away in the Castello district at Castello 4500, it’s just a short wander from the Arsenale vaporetto stop – I mean, you hop off line 1 or 4.1, weave through those narrow calles like Via Garibaldi (which, by the way, has this amazing little market in the mornings with fresh produce and locals haggling over fish), and boom, you’re there. No parking hassles since, well, it’s Venice – cars are a myth here – but if you’re lugging bags from the train station, grab a water taxi or just embrace the walk; it’s about 20 minutes, and you get that salty canal smell mixed with espresso from corner cafes along the way. The building itself is this classic Venetian palazzo, all weathered stone and wrought-iron balconies – sort of creaky in a charming way, like it’s been standing since the Renaissance (which it probably has).

Stepping inside my apartment – I had one of the ones overlooking a quiet rio, nothing fancy but with these huge windows that let in that golden afternoon light – it was a total relief after a day dodging crowds in San Marco. These are proper self-catering spots, you know? Full kitchenette with a stove that actually works (I whipped up pasta with clams from the nearby Rialto market – pro tip: go early to avoid the tour groups), comfy beds that don’t feel like they’re from a budget motel, and even a washing machine, which saved me during that rainy spell in July when everything got soaked. The place is spotless, with those high ceilings and exposed beams that make you feel like you’re in an old movie – though, fair warning, no elevator, so if stairs aren’t your thing, request a lower floor. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful for Venice; you might hear the occasional gondola splashing by or church bells from San Zaccaria (just a five-minute stroll away), but nothing like the chaos near the Rialto Bridge. Check-in was a breeze – the host met me with keys and a quick rundown, even pointed out a hidden gelateria on Campo San Filippo e Giacomo that’s way better than the touristy ones. And in peak season, like August, when the city swells with day-trippers, this spot in Castello feels like a secret escape – quieter evenings, real neighborhood vibes with osterias serving cicchetti that locals actually eat.

Look, if you’re the type who wants to live like a Venetian for a bit – sipping coffee on your balcony while watching boats putter by, or wandering to the Biennale gardens (literally around the corner) without the selfie-stick hordes – this is your jam. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty during storms, and Venice’s humidity means everything feels a tad damp sometimes, but with a 9.4 rating, it’s earned its stripes. Four stars? Feels like more, honestly. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in November when the fog rolls in and the place turns magical. If you’re plotting a trip, book it – you’ll thank me when you’re not shelling out for overpriced room service.

Reviews

  • Generous apartment in central Venice – Christopher from United Kingdom – 23 June 2025 (9/10)

Large and comfortable apartment in central Venice. There was a well equipped kitchen and a balcony with beautiful views.

What could be improved: There are about 70 stairs – so this is for the healthy. Early evening airport arrival seems to be problematic for a check in. We had to pay to change our flights.

  • It’s a great apartment with plenty of space. We really enjoyed staying here and would consider starting again next time – Scott from Australia – 9 June 2025 (10/10)

The location, the size, host was very attentive. Plenty of places to shop and eat nearby. Water bus station are close. St Marks was a few mins walk.

What could be improved: Like everyone else says, the stairs. Bathroom is dated when compared to rest of the apartment.

The apartment was is a great location with lots of really nice places to eat.

What could be improved: The only thing to be aware is we were on the 3rd floor with no lift. Not an issue, but several flights of stairs to climb.
