Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon the WellVenice Fenice almost by accident during my last trip to Venice – well, not really by accident, since I’d booked it online after hearing from a local friend that it’s tucked away in the San Marco district, right off Calle Larga XXII Marzo, which is this bustling little street lined with those high-end shops and gelaterias that somehow feel less touristy than the main drags. The address is San Marco 2002, and honestly, getting there was a breeze if you’re coming from the vaporetto stop at San Marco Vallaresso – just a five-minute walk, dodging the occasional pigeon flock and the smell of fresh espresso wafting from nearby cafes. No cars in Venice, obviously, so forget parking woes; it’s all about your feet or a water taxi if you’re feeling fancy. Check-in was smooth, even though I arrived smack in the middle of high season (think July crowds – ugh), with the front desk staff chatting in that warm Italian way, offering tips on avoiding the throngs at Piazza San Marco by heading out early morning. The lobby’s got this cozy, old-world vibe – think polished marble floors that echo a bit when you wheel in your suitcase, and these plush armchairs where you can sink in with a map and plan your day. It’s not massive or flashy, but that’s what I loved; it feels like a hidden gem in a city that’s all about hidden gems.
What really sets the WellVenice Fenice apart, though – and I say this as someone who’s stayed in a few spots around here – is how it’s practically next door to the Teatro La Fenice, that stunning opera house where you can catch a show if you’re into that (pro tip: book tickets in advance, or just wander by at night when the lights reflect off the canal water, it’s magical). The rooms? Mine was on the third floor with a view over a quiet side canal – not the Grand Canal, mind you, but close enough that you hear the gentle lap of water against the buildings, especially in the evenings when the gondola traffic dies down. It’s a solid 4-star setup: comfy beds with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender, a minibar stocked with local prosecco (a nice touch, honestly), and bathrooms that are modern without being sterile – think rainfall showers that wash away the day’s humidity. Breakfast is included, served in this sunny courtyard – fresh croissants, cappuccinos strong enough to wake the dead, and sometimes these little fruit tarts that taste like they came straight from a Venetian nonna’s kitchen. Oh, and it’s rated 8.7 for a reason; the Wi-Fi’s reliable, which is a godsend when you’re trying to navigate Venice’s maze of alleys via Google Maps. That said, the walls can be a tad thin – I heard my neighbor’s late-night phone call once, but nothing a pair of earplugs couldn’t fix. And during peak hours, the area buzzes with day-trippers, so if you’re after total silence, maybe aim for off-season like November when the fog rolls in and everything quiets down.
Look, if you’re planning a Venice getaway and want somewhere that feels authentic without skimping on comfort, the WellVenice Fenice is a winner – I mean, it’s right in the heart of San Marco, so you’re steps from the Doge’s Palace or a quick bridge-hop to Rialto, but it doesn’t have that overwhelming chain-hotel sterility. I’ve recommended it to friends who visited after me, and they all raved about the same things: the personal service (the concierge once helped me score last-minute reservations at a tiny osteria on nearby Campo Santo Stefano), the value for a 4-star spot, and just how it lets you dip into the city’s rhythm without feeling like a total outsider. Sure, prices spike in summer, but that’s Venice for you – book early, pack light (those stairs can be a workout with heavy bags), and you’ll leave with stories, not regrets. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back, you know?

Location was perfect
Atmosphere and the activity around the Duomo was wonderful. We were close to so many of the beautiful apartments, shops and the churches. Places for food were very convenient.
What could be improved: Everything was perfect!!!!Exceptional – Volodymyr from Ukraine – 29 December 2024 (10/10)

– Petr from Czech Republic – 15 May 2024 (10/10)
Perfektní lokalita, hned vedle divadla La Fenice, kousek od náměstí svatého marka. Apartmán je krásný, designově zařízený, prostorný a dobře vybavený. Komunikace s hostitelem byla výborná.
What could be improved: Je nutné počítat s umístěním ve třetím patře po prudších schodech. Nám to rozhodně nevadilo, ale není vhodné pro méně pohyblivé osoby.Un’esperienza incantevole – Elena from Italy – 25 February 2024 (10/10)
