Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Abitazione Morosini Apartment last spring, right when Venice was shaking off the winter chill but before the summer hordes descended – you know, that sweet spot in late April when the canals smell more like fresh bread from nearby bakeries than stagnant water. I’d just hopped off the vaporetto at Piazzale Roma, and honestly, the walk over to Santa Croce Corte Corner felt like slipping into the real Venice, away from the San Marco chaos. It’s tucked into this quiet little corte – that’s like a hidden courtyard for you non-locals – off Rio Terà San Leonardo, where the streets narrow into alleys that locals zip through on bikes, dodging the occasional delivery cart. No parking nightmares here, since cars are a myth in Venice anyway, but if you’re arriving by train at Santa Lucia (just a 10-minute stroll), it’s a breeze – I dragged my suitcase over those uneven stones without too much hassle, though watch your ankles on the bridges.
What really won me over was stepping inside; it’s not your sterile hotel vibe, more like crashing at a stylish Venetian friend’s place – well, if your friend had impeccable taste in restoring 18th-century palazzos. The apartment I stayed in had these high beamed ceilings that made the space feel airy, even with the thick stone walls that keep things cool in the humid afternoons. You get a full kitchen – stocked with basics like espresso pods and those tiny packets of grissini that crunch just right – which was a godsend for whipping up a quick pasta after wandering Rialto Market (it’s about a 15-minute walk, pro tip: go early to snag the fresh squid before the chefs do). The bed was plush, with linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that drowned out the distant church bells – though, fair warning, if you’re a light sleeper, the early morning boat traffic on the Grand Canal (a stone’s throw away) might nudge you awake around 7 a.m. I mean, it’s Venice, so some ambient hum is part of the charm, but earplugs helped on busier days. And the Wi-Fi? Solid, actually – streamed my shows without a hitch, which isn’t always a given in these old buildings.
All in all, if you’re after that authentic slice of Venetian life without the tourist trap prices – this place runs around €200 a night off-season, which feels like a steal for a 4-star setup with a 9.3 rating that actually lives up to the hype – Abitazione Morosini is it. It’s sort of hidden gem status keeps it from being overrun, but that also means no on-site restaurant (grab aperitivo at the corner bacaro on Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio instead – their cicchetti are legendary). I left feeling like I’d unlocked a secret side of the city, the kind where you sip coffee on your balcony watching neighbors hang laundry, rather than elbowing through selfie sticks. If Venice is on your list, book this – just maybe avoid peak July when the heat turns those alleys into saunas.

The apartment was much bigger than we expected, we had 4 rooms and a lovely private courtyard. Everything was spotless , everything worked well, the wifi was great and there were 3 tv news channels in English. It was very quiet but just a 4 min walk to a lovely local square that had 5 places to eat and a supermarket. The location was very convenient, we were able to walk to Rialto in 10 to 15 mins, depending on whether we stopped to look at things along the way! The ferry stop is an easy 3 to 4 min walk with only 1 small bridge to carry luggage over. We are in our late 60's and felt safe in the area at all times.
It was great to be in such a central location without being in constant crowds.

Loved the location and the courtyard garden was delightful. Very close to everything including vaporettas and charming square with gorgeous restaurants and cafes. Small supermarket within a few minutes walk. Host Alberto was excellent – meeting us at the home. Perfection.

The owner is lovely. The apartment was spotless and had a gorgeous roof terrace overlooking a garden. If you want to be in a busy part of Venice this is not for you. For us as a couple who like walking it was perfect. With a lovely view of a church and enclosed garden
