Simon’ Secret Overview
First Impressions
Tucked away on a quiet stretch of San Marco, Simon’ Secret lives up to its name — you could easily walk past this charming three-star boutique hotel without noticing it. But honestly, that’s part of its appeal. The entrance is understated, almost residential, which feels refreshing when you’re surrounded by the tourist chaos of Venice. I mean, you’re literally steps from St. Mark’s Square, but the moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that washes over you.
The Perfect San Marco Hideaway
What struck me most about the location is how it manages to be both central and peaceful — something that’s genuinely rare in Venice. You’re a two-minute walk from the Basilica, but the narrow calle where Simon’ Secret sits feels almost residential. Couples seem to get this immediately (the staff mentioned they get tons of romantic getaways), and I can see why. There’s something intimate about discovering this little gem while everyone else is fighting crowds on the main thoroughfares. The nearby bridges offer those postcard-perfect canal views, but you know what? You’ll actually want to come back to your hotel room at the end of the day.
Thoughtful Details Throughout
The rooms aren’t huge — this is Venice, after all — but they’re thoughtfully designed with a mix of contemporary comfort and subtle Venetian touches. I appreciated the quality linens and the way natural light filters through the windows, creating this warm, golden glow in the afternoons. The bathrooms are compact but well-appointed, and honestly, after a day of walking on uneven stone streets, that’s all you really need. What impressed me more was the attention to detail: good water pressure, reliable WiFi, and air conditioning that actually works (trust me, this matters in summer).
Service That Feels Personal
The staff here genuinely seems to care about your experience, which isn’t always a given in tourist-heavy areas. They’re the kind of people who remember your name and actually have useful suggestions beyond the obvious tourist spots. When I asked about dinner recommendations, they pointed me toward a tiny osteria about ten minutes away that I never would have found on my own — and it ended up being one of my best meals in the city. It’s that local knowledge that makes a difference, especially when you’re trying to experience Venice beyond the surface level.
Why Guests Love It
Simon’ Secret works because it understands what travelers actually want: a peaceful retreat that doesn’t sacrifice location. You get the romance and magic of staying in the heart of San Marco without feeling like you’re trapped in a tourist bubble. The recent guest ratings reflect this — people consistently mention feeling like they discovered something special. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Venice, but it delivers on the essentials with genuine warmth. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having your own little secret in one of the world’s most famous neighborhoods.
To book hotel in Venice for Carnival, travelers reserve palazzo suites overlooking mask-lined canals.

The location is brilliant, between rialto and san Marco and also just a few yards from handy shops and some great restaurants, including Bistrot de Venise if you’re feeling like treating yourself 🙂

I booked a single bed because I came to Venice for a work event and stayed the weekend after to have more time to explore this magical city. I probably could have stayed somewhere less central and paid a lower price, but I have no complaints about the room, comfort, and communication. Bathroom was super clean, modern, and spacious with excellent shower. Location close to major sights.
