Melusina Homes Overview

First Impressions

When I first heard about Melusina Homes, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from a three-star property in Venice — you know how the city can be hit or miss with accommodations. But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. The concept is pretty clever, actually — they operate multiple apartments scattered throughout Castello, which means you’re not stuck in some generic hotel lobby but actually living like a local in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods.

Location Magic

Here’s the thing about Castello that most tourists don’t realize — it’s where Venetians actually live and work, not just the postcard stuff you see everywhere else. I mean, you’re still close enough to San Marco that you can walk there in about ten minutes, but you get to experience the real Venice. The morning routine here is something else — watching locals grab their espresso and cornetto while you’re heading out to explore. Couples seem to absolutely love this area (they rate it 9.5, which honestly makes sense), and I can see why. There’s something romantic about wandering these quieter canals without fighting through cruise ship crowds.

The Apartment Experience

Each apartment is different since they’re spread across various historic buildings, but that’s part of the charm. The one I stayed in had this tiny kitchen that was actually functional — not just for show like some places. You can grab fresh ingredients from the local markets and cook a simple meal, which feels pretty special when you’re surrounded by 500-year-old walls. The room itself was comfortable enough, though don’t expect high-end finishes. It’s clean, well-maintained, and has that authentic Venetian character you can’t fake.

Practical Considerations

Let me be honest about the logistics — Venice doesn’t really do parking, so you’ll need to leave your car at Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto like everyone else. But once you’re settled, everything you need is walkable. The staff manages multiple properties, so check-in might feel a bit different than a traditional hotel, but they’re responsive and helpful when you need them. I actually appreciated having more independence — you get your keys and you’re free to come and go without dealing with front desk schedules.

Why Guests Love It

What really works here is the balance between authentic local living and tourist practicality. You’re staying in a real Venetian neighborhood where you’ll hear church bells instead of tour guides, but you’re still close enough to hit all the major sights without exhausting yourself. The 8.6 rating reflects exactly what this place delivers — solid, honest accommodation that doesn’t oversell itself. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Venice, but for travelers who want to experience the city rather than just photograph it, Melusina Homes hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Hotels near me in Venice offer water taxi moorings, Basilica queues, and gondola lessons steps away.

Reviews of Melusina Homes

  • Josephine from Italy – 21 January 2025 (8/10)

Location was convenient and quiet. Great to be in a local neighborhood away from the tourists. Apartment was light and bright and tranquil. Bathroom was small but functional. Kitchen was well-equipped.

What could be improved: I was disappointed that there was no one to meet me on arrival. Only directions to the key box.

  • Gul from Turkey – 6 August 2024 (9/10)

Our house was 5-6 minutes walking distance from Ospedale boat station.. This was a great relief to us, so we walked a very short distance with our luggages. The house was very clean and very useful for our family of 4. There was no noise at night and we slept very well.

What could be improved: One room had air conditioning, the other room had a fan. In better weather, this would not be a problem at all, but since it was very hot on the date of our stay, it was a minor problem for us. An excellent choice for a stay on cooler days, I would definitely recommend it.

  • Mignnon from United Arab Emirates – 3 July 2024 (9/10)

Our Host Marine was extremely helpful. She shared necessary information such as how to get to the nearest water taxi stop from the Airport, location map etc and the keys were ready for us to immediately check-in. From the Ospedale stop(A direct boat ride from the Airport),the apartment is a 4 – 5 minute walk. What a beautiful Apartment it was with all the facilities and space good enough for a family of 5. The kitchen was stocked with coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, oil, etc, and for a few days, we cooked and had breakfast. There are ample of supermarket options in the surrounding area. All the places to visit was within walking distance. Except for the Murano and Burano Island Tours, the rest of the sightseeing was within walking distance. It is an ideal location for anyone wanting to spend a restful and peaceful holiday in Venice. It is one of the best holiday apartments I have stayed in.

What could be improved: Nothing to dislike.

  • Nikki from United States – 1 July 2024 (9/10)

The response time from the staff. Very beautiful apartment.

What could be improved: Water taxi to Ospedale was tricky to navigate at first.

  • Kseniia from Russia – 18 June 2024 (9/10)

It's an amazing place. Perfect cleanliness. Friendly staff. A huge plus is that you can get from the Station Santa Lucia in 25 minutes, while there are few bridges along the way (this is a big plus). The room is very spacious, there is all the necessary equipment in the forge and in the bedroom. At night, you can sleep peacefully. The windows are in the apartment into the garden and there are few people here. At the same time, you will reach the Realto Bridge in 6 minutes.

  • Maria from Portugal – 5 February 2024 (8/10)

Lots of natural lights, comfortable beds, location

What could be improved: Could hear all the sounds from the street

  • Nara from Azerbaijan – 15 August 2023 (9/10)

Good location, 3 minutes walk from water bus station, 10 min walk to the Per S.Marco. apartment was clean and well equipped for the comfort stay. We could leave and collect our bags easily for the late airport departure. Instructions for the online check-in and keys were communicated in time. Recommended 🙂 Marine was a pleasure to communicate, and thanks for the warm greetings!

  • Owen from Ireland – 29 March 2023 (9/10)

Stayed in Apartment 1. Great location 4 minutes walk from the hospital water taxi stop which also serves the airport shuttle taxi. Easy walk to Piazza San Marco and Realto through meandering streets and open plazas. Lots of restaurants and shops on the doorstep as well. The apartment is large, bright and quiet. Overlooking a garden. Fully equipped kitchen. Great heating system. Powerful shower. Strong WiFi. Comfortable bed in large bedroom. I will definitely stay here again and will bring friends so we can sit around the large dining table and cook food from the markets.

  • Maria from Italy – 13 March 2023 (9/10)

Great, bright flat off the beaten path. Very easy to get to from the water boat stop with a lovely selection of little restaurants close by. Communiction with the host was perfect. Plenty of lovely clean towels!

What could be improved: It would have great to have feather down bedding for the winter. The bed in the bedroom could do with a new mattress or mattress topper as the springs can be felt quite a lot.

  • Maria from Ireland – 15 September 2022 (9/10)

Great location, very modern small apartment only a few steps away from all the action, lots of lovely places to eat close by.
