Ai Bareteri Luxury Canal View Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Ai Bareteri Luxury Canal View, you immediately understand why couples give this place such high marks for location. I mean, you’re literally steps from St. Mark’s Square — and I’m talking about a two-minute stroll, not some tourist-brochure exaggeration. The entrance sits right on San Marco street, which honestly feels like you’re staying in the beating heart of Venice itself. It’s a three-star property, but the canal views from certain rooms make it feel much more upscale than the rating suggests.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what you need to know about staying in San Marco — you’re in the absolute center of everything that matters in Venice. The Doge’s Palace is practically next door, and St. Mark’s Basilica is close enough that you’ll hear the bells throughout the day (which is actually quite charming). What I love about this spot is that while you’re surrounded by major attractions, the immediate street feels authentically Venetian rather than completely overrun by tour groups. You can slip out for an early morning coffee before the crowds arrive, or grab a late dinner at one of the nearby bacari without fighting through masses of tourists.

The Rooms

The canal view rooms are absolutely worth the extra cost — and this is coming from someone who usually thinks hotel upgrades are overpriced. Waking up to gondoliers gliding past your window while you’re having morning coffee is one of those experiences that makes Venice feel magical rather than just crowded. The rooms themselves are well-appointed for a three-star property, with that refined European style that doesn’t try too hard. The bathrooms are compact (this is Venice, after all), but everything works well and feels clean and modern.

Getting Around

You know what’s great about this location? You can walk to most of Venice’s major sights, which saves you a fortune on water taxi rides. The Rialto Bridge is maybe a 10-minute walk through some genuinely beautiful streets, and you’re close enough to multiple vaporetto stops that getting to areas like Dorsoduro or Cannaregio is straightforward. I actually found myself walking more than taking water transport because everything felt so accessible from here. The nearby streets have plenty of restaurants and shops, but you’re also just far enough from the main tourist drags that you can find some authentic spots if you explore a bit.

Why Guests Love It

That 9.7 location rating from couples makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here. There’s something romantic about being able to step out your door and immediately be surrounded by Venice’s most iconic architecture and waterways. The property strikes this nice balance between being centrally located without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist trap. Plus, the staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work well — they’re helpful with restaurant recommendations and can point you toward the less crowded routes to popular attractions. For a three-star hotel in this prime location, Ai Bareteri Upscale Canal View delivers an experience that feels much more high-end than you’d expect.

Venice’s apartments welcome families with vaporetto passes, kitchenettes for market hauls, and bridges leading to Lido playgrounds.

  • Jennifer from United States – 20 October 2024 (9/10)

The location was fantastic – we spent most of our time on the balcony watching the gondolas!

What could be improved: There weren't any blankets in the apartment, but that was taken care of very quickly upon request.

  • Lucas from United States – 5 August 2024 (9/10)

    The perfect booking.

  • Amanda from United States – 26 July 2024 (8/10)

The location is great. Apartment was roomy. Appreciated the modern feel. Great communication with property management staff.

What could be improved: The apartment appeared clean except sheets which hopefully were just stained but still made us question the cleanliness of them. The A big reason we booked here was because of the dryer which didn’t work very well and some of our clothes ended with a mildew smell and we did not have time to rewash and dry. Would have air dried items but didn’t have the appropriate supplies.

  • Joanne from United States – 19 June 2024 (9/10)

Updated flat loved the view Had everything we needed, although could not find iron

What could be improved: A lot of steps – although worth the climb

  • Themela from South Africa – 10 December 2023 (8/10)

Location was great. Easy to find and central to navigating through Venice. Very conveniently located near the water bus station.

What could be improved: Lots of stairs to reach the apartment especially with luggage.

  • Yi-chiang from Taiwan – 26 October 2023 (9/10)

Great location, easy to reach upon arrival, easy to go places, a supermarket nearby. Nice private balcony, fantastic view. Good set of kitchen wares for cooking , saved us a lot in dining. Cozy bedroom and nicely working Air conditioner.

What could be improved: Kettle is not working as hot water is very essential for us. Counter-top oven not working as well. Kitchen faucet water flow is too slow, might gets blocked. And in the shower room, there is no place to hold our shampoo/ soap and such.

  • Melinda from United States – 19 October 2023 (9/10)

It was a wonderful apartment with a great location!! The bonus is that it had a balcony you could relax on overlooking a quiet canal- so priceless! Very clean, nice and comfortable. The only thing to mention is that there are a fair amount of stairs, so anyone with lots luggage or motility issues should take note. We would definitely recommend!!

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Ava from United States – 7 May 2023 (9/10)

The property was absolutely beautiful. We had a hard time locating it at first because the “Travel Agency” sign wasn’t there. Obviously not the property’s fault, so I called the number given to me and the woman I spoke to was very helpful. There was a little restaurant right by the alley we were supposed to turn down. Everything inside was very clean and it looked exactly like the photos! We were in Italy for just over a week and stayed at 3 different places, this was by far our favorite!

What could be improved: The only things we didn’t like were mostly due to user error. There are a lot of light switches which was fun to figure out after a few drinks lol! The keys were also very unique looking which was super new to us. I also didn’t take the time to look at the labels in the living room for the kitchen tools. So again, these things were of no fault to the property, just something to be aware of.

Spacious lounge and bedroom, comfortable furnishings, kitchen well resourced with plates, cutlery, pans (in recessed pull out cupboard opposite sink), microwave, fridge/freezer. 2 hob cooker, dishwasher, world's smallest stovetop percolator- only good for single espresso. Clothes washing machine in cupboard. Lovely bathroom but couldn't get bath jacuzzi to work. Two balconies, one overlooking canal is superb in location but quite small; bedroom balcony is larger but overlooks buildings, not canal. Very helpful staff when I struggled to find the apartment as google maps proved tricky with buildings blocking my GPS/mobile internet access; immediate response from staff. Location is less than 10 minutes walk away from Rialto Bridge or St. Mark's Square and in the middle of the two. Loved seeing the gondolas on the canal below. Lots of coffee shops and eateries nearby.

What could be improved: A lot of stairs to apartment- can be tricky for anyone with mobility issues.
