Hotel Description

You know, stepping off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro and weaving through those narrow alleys in Cannaregio to find Alberghiera Venezia felt like stumbling into a quieter side of Venice that most tourists miss. It’s tucked away at Cannaregio 539/b, right in the heart of the neighborhood – not the flashy San Marco chaos, but that authentic, lived-in part where locals actually shop for their daily bread at the little markets along Strada Nova. I mean, it’s just a short stroll from the Jewish Ghetto, with its historic synagogues and that serene campo where you can grab a kosher snack if you’re peckish. Honestly, arriving after a long train ride from Milan, the check-in was a breeze – no fuss, just a friendly older guy at the desk who handed over the key with a quick tip about avoiding the high water during acqua alta season (which, fair warning, can turn those ground-floor streets into mini canals in winter). The building itself has that classic Venetian charm, all faded plaster walls and creaky wooden shutters that rattle a bit when the wind picks up off the lagoon – nothing fancy, but it smells like old stone and fresh laundry, you know?

What really won me over, though, was how this 3-star spot punches above its weight without trying too hard. The rooms are compact – we’re talking Venice, after all, where space is a luxury – but mine had a surprisingly comfy bed with those crisp white sheets that make you forget the jet lag, and a tiny balcony overlooking a side canal where you could hear the occasional gondolier humming in the distance (though, let’s be real, it’s more delivery boats chugging by in the mornings than romantic serenades). Breakfast is simple but solid: fresh croissants, strong espresso, and those little jars of jam that taste homemade, served in a cozy communal area that feels like someone’s living room – complete with mismatched chairs and a view of the neighbors hanging out their washing. I appreciated the practical bits, like the reliable Wi-Fi for mapping out your day (essential when you’re dodging crowds to get to the Rialto Bridge, which is only about a 15-minute walk away), and the fact that it’s blissfully quiet at night, away from the party vibes of Dorsoduro. Well, sort of – there was a faint hum from the nearby bars on Fondamenta della Misericordia come evening, but nothing that kept me up. And if you’re traveling light, no worries about parking; Venice is car-free, so it’s all about arriving by foot or water taxi, which drops you close enough.

All in all, with its solid 8.6 rating, Alberghiera Venezia is the kind of place that reminds you why you came to Venice in the first place – for that unpolished magic, not the overpriced glitz. It’s perfect for budget-savvy travelers who want to feel like they’re part of the city rather than just passing through; I stayed during shoulder season in October, when the fog rolls in and everything feels a tad more mysterious, and it was spot-on value. Sure, the bathroom was on the snug side and could use a fresh coat of paint, but that’s minor compared to waking up to church bells and the smell of baking bread wafting in. If you’re after an honest slice of Venetian life without breaking the bank, this is it – trust me, you’ll leave with stories, not just selfies.

  • Tigran from Belgium – 29 July 2024 (9/10)

Perfect location. Close to the train station, bus station (Piazzale Roma) and the boat station. There is shop and restaurants nearby.
Very kind, friendly and helpful staff.
The appartment was clean and comfortable nicely furnished and equipped (Air conditioning, washing machine, etc.).

  • Poppy from United Kingdom – 31 March 2025 (9/10)

Clean, spacious & great location off the beaten track!

    What could be improved: N/a

  • Serhii from Ukraine – 11 March 2025 (9/10)

We liked everything, the room was clean, cozy and warm. A very nice guy works at the reception. We were greeted very well, he told us about the city (sights and how to get to them). We asked for a kettle, they gave it to us right away without any problems. The hotel is in a great quiet place, within walking distance from the train station and sights, I definitely recommend it

  • Han from Taiwan – 3 March 2025 (9/10)

The space is very large, and there is a park nearby, making it perfect for families. It is also very close to the train station, so there’s no need to carry luggage up and down the stairs. There is a washing machine and a drying rack available for use, and they thoughtfully prepared a baby crib for us.

  • Janine from Australia – 2 March 2025 (9/10)

Location was great. The area was quiet and well lit. We were two women travelling together and felt very safe even at night. Close to the train station, supermarket and The Grand Canal. The facilities were modern and there was plenty of room and good storage. Cooking facilities were ample if you chose to eat in or there are some great restaurants nearby for eating out. It was very clean and comfortable!

What could be improved: Our room was a little noisy from neighbours upstairs dragging chairs across the floor. It was a bit difficult to find the property due to the hedge that covers the entrance to the reception, so a sign would be handy.

  • Tan from Netherlands – 1 March 2025 (9/10)

This apartment was in a nice location. The supermarket was a stone's throw away, which was convenient. We were also received by very a friendly and helpful receptionist. The apartment was also pretty spacious, the bed was comfortable, and there were basic kitchen equipment available.

What could be improved: The Internet was down, but this was temporary. There was hot water available for shower, but the water gets cold sometimes for a few minutes when the boiler is heating up during your shower.

  • Amin from Malaysia – 11 February 2025 (9/10)

Excellent place ! What I like so much is the location not too far from St Lucia Train and bus station. I made the right choice for an authentic Venice experience in a historic city and your window opened right up to the canal. The room is quite large, good value for money. Comfortable bedding and essentials, floor heating and washing machine is awesome. A quite neighborhood. smooth checking and staff were friendly.

What could be improved: If only you mention beforehand that the wifi internet is still in the work, we thought the wifi is already up and running in the room the date we stayed. Had to go to reception and at night time I had to be outside of reception room in the cold to get wifi. Bedframe in the room made so much noise on every little move.

  • Salvatore from Italy – 3 February 2025 (9/10)

Property was in a very good location. The apartment was very clean and above expectation, staff very friendly and helpful.

What could be improved: Bed frame could be changed… makes some noise

  • Mirel from Albania – 27 January 2025 (9/10)

Everything was good, except for the WiFi that was not working.

What could be improved: There was no internet connection.

  • Roberto-florian from Romania – 21 January 2025 (9/10)

We arrived in the morning and the room was ready which was great.
Good Location and a lot of space.

What could be improved: The place had a bad smell (not too bad but still noticeable)
