Allegretto Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to find Allegretto honestly feels like you’re on a treasure hunt — and when you finally spot that understated entrance on Campiello Santa Maria Nova, you know you’ve found something special. This four-star boutique hotel sits in what locals consider one of the most authentic parts of Venice, away from the tourist chaos but still perfectly positioned for everything you want to see. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm that makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s elegant family palazzo rather than a commercial hotel.
The Cannaregio Advantage
You know what I love about this location? It’s got that perfect balance — you’re close enough to San Marco that you can walk there in about fifteen minutes, but far enough away that you actually get to experience how Venetians live. The Cannaregio district has real neighborhood bakeries, wine bars where locals grab their evening spritz, and those tiny bridges that aren’t packed with selfie-stick wielding crowds. I mean, couples consistently rate this area 9.4 out of 10, and honestly, I get it — there’s something romantic about wandering these quieter canals in the evening.
Your Room and Comfort
The rooms at Allegretto strike this nice balance between Venetian character and modern comfort that’s actually harder to find than you’d think. Each room feels thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter — you’ll find original details like exposed beams or period furniture mixed with updated bathrooms and reliable Wi-Fi (which, trust me, isn’t a given in these old Venetian buildings). The windows often look out onto the campiello or neighboring rooftops, giving you those postcard views without the premium price tag you’d pay closer to the main squares.
Exploring from Here
What makes this spot brilliant is how walkable everything becomes. The Rialto Market is just a pleasant stroll away — perfect for those early morning visits when the fishmongers are setting up and the produce vendors are arranging their displays. You’re also really close to the Jewish Quarter, which has some of Venice’s most fascinating history and, surprisingly, some excellent restaurants that most tourists never discover. The train station is accessible without dragging your luggage across too many bridges, which anyone who’s traveled to Venice with a suitcase will appreciate.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.6 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen — it reflects how this place gets the fundamentals right while offering something genuinely special. The staff seems to actually know Venice rather than just working there, so their recommendations tend to be spot-on. You’re staying in a part of the city that feels real and lived-in, but you’re not sacrificing comfort or accessibility. It’s the kind of place where you can have an authentic Venetian experience without feeling like you’re roughing it, and honestly, that’s exactly what most of us are looking for when we visit a city like Venice.
Hotel in Venice reservations spike before Redentore fireworks when the lagoon fills with floating dinners.

A beautiful, very well-maintained, and exceptionally clean apartment. Very friendly and dedicated staff. The apartment has everything you need: a fully equipped kitchen, a living room, two separate bedrooms, and a bathroom.

Nausica was a great host, very responsive and helpful in providing information about the local area.
The apartment was cozy and comfy, with all you need to cook a good meal. Having a dishwasher was great and the washing machine was also very useful. The beds were super comfortable.
The location of the apartment is fantastic, a 10 minute walk to piazza san Marco, less than that to the Vaporetto stop and also about 10 minutes to the Rialto market. There were a number of small supermarkets and bakeries nearby. As others have mentioned there is a bar (coffee shop) under the apartment, but it’s never too noisy. There’s also loads of restaurants within a short walk.
I definitely recommend staying here if you’re in Venice.
What could be improved: Not a dislike, but the flight of steps from the entry into the main apartment is narrow, so be aware of that if you have large luggage or mobility issues. The bathroom has no external window, but does have a ventilation fan.Chantal from France – 4 March 2025 (10/10)
