Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Alloggi Marinella after a long train ride into Santa Lucia station – you know, that bustling hub where everyone drags their suitcases over the Ponte degli Scalzi and dives right into the Venice chaos. But this place? It’s tucked away in Santa Croce on Rio Terà dei Pensieri, a quiet little street that’s more residential than touristy, which honestly makes all the difference if you’re not into the San Marco crowds. I mean, it’s just a short walk from Piazzale Roma if you’re coming by bus or car – and parking in Venice is a nightmare, so that’s a godsend – but once you’re there, it feels like you’ve escaped into a calmer corner of the city. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian townhouses, with that faded pinkish facade and wooden shutters that creak a bit in the breeze off the canal. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this warm Italian lady who speaks perfect English, greeted me with a fresh espresso and some tips on avoiding the overpriced gondolas nearby. No fancy lobby, just a cozy entryway that smells faintly of old wood and whatever’s baking in the bakery down the street – Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio is like five minutes away, with its hidden square where locals grab gelato and kids play soccer till dusk.

What really won me over, though, was how unpretentious and thoughtful everything felt – it’s a 3-star spot, sure, but with a 9.1 rating for good reason. My room overlooked the rio (that’s the canal, for the uninitiated), and waking up to the soft lapping of water and distant church bells was pure magic, especially in the off-season when Venice quiets down after October. The beds are comfy, with those crisp white linens that actually feel clean, not starched to death, and there’s a little balcony where I sipped cheap prosecco from the corner market on Calle Lunga. Breakfast is simple – croissants, fruit, and cappuccino served in a sunny common area – but it’s included and way better than the tourist traps around Rialto. Oh, and practical stuff: Wi-Fi is solid, which is hit-or-miss in these old buildings, and the air conditioning works without that annoying hum that keeps you up at night. It’s not perfect – the bathroom’s on the smaller side, and if you’re tall like me, watch your head on the slanted ceilings in some rooms – but honestly, for the price, it’s a steal. You’re steps from the vaporetto stop at Riva de Biasio, so zipping to the islands or Arsenale is easy, and at night, the area gets peacefully quiet, no rowdy bar noise filtering in.

Look, if you’re planning a Venice trip and want that authentic feel without breaking the bank or dealing with the hordes, Alloggi Marinella is the kind of place that sticks with you. I left feeling like I’d actually lived a slice of local life – wandering to the nearby Jewish Ghetto for history or grabbing fresh seafood at the Rialto market without the elbowing. Sure, it’s not luxurious, but in a city that’s all about romance and hidden gems, this spot delivers. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in spring when the canals don’t smell quite as funky and the light hits just right.

Siamo stati molto contenti ! We mainly liked the location of the accommodation and very comfy beds. So we were sleeping very well and comfortably ! Also the owner of the facility was very friendly and helped us with some things. The facility is situated near the bus and railway station which makes it an ideal position to quickly get to the airport bus service and vaporetto services at the same time. Some drug and grocery stores are even a few steps away from the facility. So, I can highly recommend this accommodation !

What could be improved: Nothing to object

  • Raili from Estonia – 27 March 2025 (9/10)

    Very near to Piazzale Roma.

Venice isn't a trip where you spend a lot of time in the room you've paid an absolute fortune for. This is THE perfect space for the perfect trip to Venice. I would highly recommend it. Clean, comfortable and your own bathroom considering the surrounding accommodation in the area. The area is peaceful and quiet enough to relax but you're literally 5 mins away from the hustle and bustle you thrive for in Venice which makes this place perfect again. I'm recommending Alloggi Marinella to many friends who want to visit Venice

What could be improved: Nothing a little oil might fix I'm sure but the stairs are a little noisy when people are on them and the doors creaking through the ceiling but it's to be expected with the property type. I think this was the only issue we had as it woke us up a few times but the beds were so comfortable we fell asleep straight away

  • Wouter from Germany – 10 February 2025 (10/10)

The room was small but perfectly well-equipped: A little desk+chair, a comfortable bed, a wardrobe, and a little coffee maker. Very quiet at night, perfect central location.

  • Olga from Georgia – 15 December 2024 (10/10)

Great location, near the bus and train stations (maximum 5 min), and at the same time a quiet street. Close to all the main important locations, I needed a max of 15-20 minutes to get there. Everything was clean and nice. I was lucky, as due to the low season, I guess I was the only person. There is no breakfast, but the guests have access to the kitchen with basic staff. Hosts were very invisable but responsive and welcoming. There was already a pre-Christmas atmosphere.

What could be improved: I liked everything. So for those who will select this place to have in mind and to be prepared of what to expect, the room was enough for 1 person, but for 2 it will be small, as there will be a problem locating your luggage. As I was alone, no one was bothering me, but I guess that if there are some other people, you will hear some noise both from the hall and from the street (but again, the street for Venice is very quiet).

  • Miguel from United Kingdom – 11 November 2024 (8/10)

Location is great, minutes away from Piazzale Roma. Getting from Marco Polo airport is the most convenient location.
Everything super clean. You have a small fridge and there's a common kitchen in case you need anything.
I stayed in summer and it was really hot, but when I got to the room the aircon was on so that was a bonus!
The room is not super big in size but more than enough for sleeping. You have a coffee maker so you can enjoy a coffee in the mornings. Cafés and a supermarket not far away. Really quite by night so perfecto for a good rest. I would go back without a doubt!

What could be improved: I don't think I can say anything negative.

  • Jimmy from New Zealand – 16 October 2024 (8/10)

Great location being quite and central

What could be improved: Cold Air condition was not working

  • Neil from United Kingdom – 14 October 2024 (10/10)

Great location. Minutes from train station. Few nice restaurants on door step and local shop few minutes away. Easily walkable into centre of Venice.
