Appartamento nel Distretto dei Musei Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Calle Navarro in Dorsoduro, you’d almost miss the entrance to Appartamento nel Distretto dei Musei if you weren’t looking for it — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits right in the heart of what locals call the museum district, and I mean literally surrounded by some of Venice‘s most incredible art collections. The building itself has that weathered Venetian elegance you see everywhere in this neighborhood, with those classic shuttered windows that make you feel like you’re stepping into a postcard.
The Perfect Venetian Location
You know what struck me most about staying here? The location is absolutely unbeatable — couples especially seem to get this, rating it 9.4 for romantic getaways, and I can see why. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and the Palazzo Grassi is practically next door. But here’s the thing most tourists don’t realize: Dorsoduro has this quieter, more residential feel compared to the chaos around San Marco. You’ll actually hear conversations in Italian here, not just camera clicks and tour guides with megaphones.
The Apartment Experience
The apartment itself feels authentically Venetian without being stuffy about it. My room had these gorgeous original beamed ceilings and windows that opened onto a narrow canal — you could hear the gentle lapping of water and the occasional gondolier calling out to tourists. The kitchen was compact but totally functional, which I appreciated since eating out for every meal in Venice can get expensive fast. There’s something really special about making your morning coffee while watching the city wake up outside your window.
Neighborhood Life
What I loved most was how this area comes alive in the evenings. The nearby Campo Santa Margherita turns into this buzzing social hub where university students mix with locals grabbing aperitivos. You’re close enough to walk to a proper Venetian restaurant — I’d recommend asking your host about the little osteria around the corner that doesn’t even have a sign. During the day, you can easily walk to the Accademia Bridge or catch a vaporetto to anywhere else in the city, but honestly, you might find yourself wanting to just wander the quiet streets of Dorsoduro instead.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.5 rating, this place clearly gets something right, and I think it’s the balance between authentic Venetian living and tourist accessibility. You’re not staying in some sterile hotel room — you’re actually living in Venice for a few days. The fact that it’s in the top-rated area of the city isn’t just marketing speak; Dorsoduro really does offer the best of both worlds. You get the museums, the canals, the incredible architecture, but without feeling like you’re constantly fighting crowds just to take a photo. Plus, there’s decent parking nearby if you’re brave enough to drive in Venice (though honestly, I’d recommend against it).
Early hotels booking in Venice secures balcony seats for Vogalonga regattas and torchlit basilica tours.

What could be improved: Bitte Küchenausstattung ein wenig ergänzen: 2 Weingläser, große Schüssel für Salat, Untersetzer für heiße Töpfe, Pfannenwender. Danke!
