Bocca di Piazza Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Bocca di Piazza feels like discovering a hidden gem tucked away on one of Venice’s quieter streets — well, as quiet as San Marco gets anyway. The three-star property sits on Calle Larga Contarina, and honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better spot if you tried. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of everything, but the hotel itself has this intimate, almost residential feel that makes you forget you’re staying in one of the world’s busiest tourist districts.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about Venice — location is absolutely everything, and Bocca di Piazza nailed it. You’re a genuine two-minute walk from St. Mark’s Square, which sounds almost too good to be true until you’re actually doing it. The Doge’s Palace, the basilica, those famous cafes with the orchestras — it’s all right there. But what I really love is how you can slip back to the hotel when the crowds get overwhelming (and they will). The narrow calle gives you that authentic Venetian maze experience without getting genuinely lost, if you know what I mean.

The Rooms

The accommodations here are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star in Venice — comfortable without being flashy, and honestly, that works perfectly. The rooms have that classic Venetian charm with modern touches that actually make sense. You’re not getting palatial suites, but everything feels thoughtfully designed for the space. The windows open onto the street below, and there’s something really satisfying about hearing the gentle hum of Venice waking up in the morning — footsteps on stone, the occasional water taxi in the distance.

Daily Life at the Hotel

What strikes me most about staying here is how it becomes your little refuge between all the sightseeing madness. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood — not just the obvious tourist spots, but where to grab a decent coffee that won’t cost you fifteen euros, or which bacaro serves the best cicchetti nearby. You’ll find yourself popping back throughout the day, which is something you can’t really do when you’re staying out on the mainland or even in some of the more remote sestieri.

Why Guests Love It

It’s pretty clear why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways — there’s something undeniably magical about being able to stroll to St. Mark’s Square for an evening aperitivo, then wander back through the lamplit streets to your own little corner of Venice. The location score speaks for itself, but it’s more than just proximity to the sights. Bocca di Piazza gives you that perfect balance of being in the thick of things while still having a peaceful place to retreat. For a three-star hotel in this part of Venice, that’s honestly pretty remarkable.

Exploring Venice mixes Gothic arches, artisan mask ateliers, and cicchetti crawls along shadowy rii.

Reviews of Bocca di Piazza

  • Ioana from Romania – 26 October 2024 (8/10)

Great location for being in the middle of main attractions, but quiet for sleeping.
    Very responsive staff.

  • Olga from Israel – 5 September 2024 (9/10)

I liked a very good location, excellent condition of appartement. Quick and simple communication with owner/ contact person. Detailed explanation for each question.

What could be improved: I don't know. For me it was very good experience.

  • Holly from United States – 17 June 2024 (9/10)

The location of this flat is superb. It’s so close to the center but off the beaten path so it’s not noisy. The communication with the host is great and there is plenty of room to spread out in. The beds are comfortable – even the individual singles in the second bedroom – and we really appreciated having access to an iron. And the AC worked perfectly. It is good value for what you pay.

Note: make sure you download the instructions before you arrive at the door as we sat outside for ten minutes waiting because I could not get a signal between the buildings. The host had sent everything but I just neglected to read the very simple instructions!

What could be improved: Small complaints: some of the sockets near the main bed did not work, the wardrobe space to hang up clothes was … inaccessible; And no real mugs for coffee or tea. These would not change my complete willingness to stay again!

  • Durga from United Kingdom – 24 March 2024 (9/10)

I received clear instructions and travel options from airport to the flat.
The person who was supposed to receive us was always responsive to text messages
The property was neat and well maintained.
It was very close to the vaporetto , main tourist attractions such as doge's palace and St.marks basilica.

What could be improved: We did not find anything to fault

  • Hugh from New Zealand – 18 December 2023 (9/10)

Our stay in Venice was wonderful. Everything went smoothly, and Marine was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The apartment was perfectly located, close to everything. We would definitely choose to stay here again in the future.

What could be improved: The only slight drawback was the stairs to access the place.

  • Wai from Estonia – 20 October 2023 (9/10)

It was quiet. Easy checkin and out. Strong Wi-Fi. Comfortable beds.

    Location couldn't have been better

  • Meltem from United States – 10 June 2023 (9/10)
