Cà Marta Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Cà Marta along the quiet Fondamenta Santa Marta, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical Venice tourist trap. The three-star property sits in the Dorsoduro district, away from the crowds but still perfectly positioned — honestly, couples seem to get this because they consistently rate the location a perfect 10. There’s something refreshing about arriving somewhere that feels more like a neighborhood secret than a guidebook recommendation.

The Dorsoduro Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re in Venice proper, but you can actually breathe. Dorsoduro has this authentic residential vibe that most visitors never experience, with locals going about their daily routines while you sip your morning coffee. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is practically around the corner, and you can walk to St. Mark’s Square in about 15 minutes, but you know what? You might find yourself preferring the quieter canals right outside your door. Recent guests have been rating the location 9.1 out of 10, and I get why — it’s that sweet spot between accessibility and tranquility.

Your Room and Space

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — this is Venice, after all, where space is precious. What impressed me was how they maximized every corner without making it feel cramped. The windows open to canal views (though not every room has this, so ask when booking), and there’s decent storage space for your luggage. The Wi-Fi actually works well, which isn’t always a given in these older Venetian buildings, and the air conditioning was a lifesaver during my July visit.

Getting Around and Practical Matters

The vaporetto stop at Santa Marta is literally a two-minute walk — I mean, you can see it from the hotel entrance. This connects you to the entire city without the hassle of navigating crowded water bus stops in the main tourist areas. If you’re arriving by car, there’s the Tronchetto parking garage nearby, though honestly, most guests arrive by water taxi or on foot from the train station. The staff speaks solid English and they’re genuinely helpful with directions, not just the scripted tourist information you get at bigger hotels.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to Cà Marta is that balance — you’re staying in real Venice without sacrificing convenience. The 8.5 guest rating reflects what I experienced: solid accommodations, unbeatable location, and that neighborhood feel that makes Venice magical rather than just photogenic. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and there’s real value in that authenticity. Plus, when couples consistently give the location perfect scores, you know you’ve found one of those spots that just works for a romantic getaway or peaceful city break.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Venice before acqua alta alerts to snag suites with private fondaco docks.

Reviews of Cà Marta

  • Andreea from United Kingdom – 14 March 2025 (9/10)

Very well located to get to centre of Venice. Very clean and well kept. Perfect size for me and my parents. Host was great at communicating and offering support and help to get to the flat. We arrived late and was very accommodating.

  • Isabel from United Kingdom – 21 October 2024 (9/10)

The location was great and the apartment was very spacious.

What could be improved: A big humidity in the main bedroom.

  • Kirthan from Germany – 26 September 2024 (9/10)

Spacious apartment, friendly host, furnished kitchen, close to water bus stop.

What could be improved: The apartment is in 2nd floor and since it’s an old building there’s no lift but we got used to it.

  • Marta from Poland – 4 June 2024 (9/10)

The place was really great:) We had everything what we need. Apartment was spacious and clean and it is located in nice quiet neighborhood:) It’s very close to vaporetto stop so if you travel by train it’s very easy to get to this place. There was no lift so we had to take our luggages on the second floor but I think it’s not a surprise in a town like Venice so I wouldn't count it as a weakness:))

  • Aberdeen from Singapore – 24 April 2024 (9/10)

The apartment was clean and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The amenities were great too

What could be improved: The location on Google maps might not be accurate, so please refer to the address provided rather than the name of the accomodation. There are also no lights at the staircase area, so you will have to use your phone torch

  • Zaree from Australia – 15 October 2023 (9/10)

Great location, nice and clean, air conditioning and quiet at night for sleeping. Lovely restaurant just across the road!

  • Veronica from Romania – 14 July 2023 (8/10)

Location was ok (second floor, not accessible by elevator, so not suitable for people with wheelchair), clean, big rooms (no terrace/balcony), pleasant to stay for 1-2 nights. It was not very central, but it took 15 minutes walk to the center with bars/restaurants/touristic spots. Quiet area, near an university campus. For people who want to cook, I believe the kitchen had what you needed – we didn't use it 🙂

What could be improved: Big dislike for the way they handle the trash topic: considering the price for the apartment was high compared to any other place in Italy where we went during this trip, they asked us for an additional 10 EUR if we didn't want to take care of the garbage ourselves. I didn't mind the fact that I need to take out the trash, but the approach was not the most professional 😉
Also, pay attention to the address – there was a different number on Booking, so follow the instructions received via messages instead. Last thing, the city tax is bigger than mentioned on Booking.

  • Lizaveta from Poland – 27 May 2023 (9/10)

Stunning spacious apartment, great location, welcoming agency staff

What could be improved: We couldn’t find extra trash bags

  • Carol from United States – 25 March 2023 (9/10)

proximity to vaporetto, café’s & groceries. kitchen had everything you need. comfortable couch & bedroom.

What could be improved: The stairs but we got used to them. 😆

  • Yelena from Armenia – 9 September 2022 (9/10)

everything was clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful
