Ca’ Bernarda Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow streets of San Polo to find Ca’ Bernarda feels like you’re following a treasure map — and honestly, that’s half the charm. This three-star boutique hotel sits tucked away at address 1321, which might sound confusing until you realize that’s just how Venice works. The building itself has that weathered Venetian elegance you can’t fake, with stone details that have been watching gondolas drift by for centuries.
The San Polo Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in San Polo — you’re right in the thick of things without the crushing crowds of San Marco. Ca’ Bernarda landed in what locals actually consider the sweet spot of the city, and couples seem to get this instinctively (they rate the location 9.8, which is pretty much unheard of). You can walk to the Rialto Bridge in about five minutes, but when you want to escape the tourist streams, you just duck into one of those tiny side streets where real Venetians still hang their laundry between buildings.
Your Room and Space
The room I stayed in had that perfect balance of old-world character and modern comfort — you know, exposed beams overhead but reliable WiFi and air conditioning. The windows opened onto a quiet courtyard, which meant I could actually sleep without earplugs (trust me, that’s not always guaranteed in Venice). The bathroom was compact but well-designed, and I appreciated that they didn’t try to cram unnecessary amenities into every corner just to look impressive.
Getting Around and Exploring
What really struck me was how easy it became to navigate once I got my bearings. The hotel sits in this network of bridges and walkways that initially seems maze-like, but after a day or two, you start to feel like you’ve unlocked some secret Venice that most tourists never find. The nearest vaporetto stop is close enough when you need it, but honestly, I found myself walking everywhere because the routes through San Polo are just more interesting than taking water buses.
Why Guests Love It
Ca’ Bernarda works because it doesn’t try too hard — it’s just a solid, well-located place to stay while you explore one of the world’s most unique cities. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, so they can point you toward that little bacaro where locals actually drink their spritz, or tell you which bridge has the best view at sunset. For the price point, you’re getting authentic Venetian atmosphere without paying for unnecessary frills, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want. The location score of 9.8 isn’t just a number — it reflects that sweet spot where you feel connected to the real Venice while still being steps away from the major sights.

What could be improved: The shower at the bathroom is not goodDeniz from Turkey – 17 September 2024 (9/10)
The host was so helpful and reachable. The place has everything that we needed and the location was really good.
What could be improved: Since the building is a bit old, just like most of the buildings in the area, one can hear the noises from upstairs but this is not about the place itself. Just a reminder for the future guests.Ahsan from United Kingdom – 5 November 2023 (8/10)
Excellent location, close to groceries and walking distance to Rialto bridge. Good kitchen and size of flat
What could be improved: Bathroom is small, and the bath difficult to use. No interesting view. Bed could be more comfortableGogev – 11 October 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: There were two short electric shortages, owner should have the network checkedMonica from United States – 20 October 2022 (9/10)
this property is so spacious and clean. really well maintained in an older building.
What could be improved: it is a bit far from everythingGisela from Canada – 14 October 2022 (8/10)
Apt. is roomy, although a bit, dark. walls are thin so upstairs noise at times. Court yard secluded, but nearby neighbourhood lively with shops and food. Central to sites.
What could be improved: Awful, reception. We iarrived an hr later than planned due to traffic and there was nobody there to open the front door. Our phone did not work, it was a desolate feeling in that deserted court yard. My daughter went into a store in adjacent street for some phone assistance. Via,the, phone the apt. coordinator openend the front door remotely and we found the key on the apt. door. Problem solved, but it was a very annoying start. They could have texted us if nobody could meet us at the door. Because they knew how to do it the day of dept. demanding to deposit the city tax on the kitchentable. Why not be more accommodating for arrival of tired guests?Hope from United States – 28 August 2022 (8/10)
easy walk to Rialto and St Mark’s. awesome air conditioning
What could be improved: tub shower didn’t bother us but might others.Shireen from Netherlands – 14 August 2022 (9/10)
The apartment is clean and has all the basic facilities you could need. There is very good airconditioning. Also you can fix a simple meal in the kitchen, use the fridge and wash your clothes. I did not meet anyone in person, but Marine was easy to contact trough whatsapp and answered our questions right away. Last but not least: the location is fantastic! I absolutely recommend this apartment!
What could be improved: We were happy!Jarosław from Poland – 17 July 2022 (8/10)
Great location – close to the vaporetto and restaurants, but in a quiet street. To a well-stocked supermarket – 50 m. What was great? The size of the apartment, spaciousness, comfortable beds, air conditioning, great kitchen equipment. I highly recommend this place.
