Ca’ Anna in Biennale Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Calle dei Preti in Castello, you’d almost miss Ca’ Anna in Biennale if you weren’t looking for it — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique property sits tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’ll hear more Italian than English echoing off the canal walls. The entrance feels refreshingly understated compared to some of the flashier hotels near San Marco, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s not special.

Location & Neighborhood

I mean, the location score of 9.0 isn’t just marketing fluff — this spot really delivers. You’re in Castello, which locals will tell you is where the “real” Venice still exists, away from the cruise ship crowds but close enough to everything that matters. The Biennale gardens are practically next door (hence the name), and you can walk to St. Mark’s Square in about 15 minutes without dealing with the chaos of staying right in the thick of it. What I love is that couples seem to get this — they consistently rate the area 8.7 for romantic getaways, and after spending time here, you understand why.

The Room Experience

The rooms here aren’t trying to be palatial — they’re aiming for that sweet spot between comfort and authentic Venetian character, and they mostly hit it. Each room feels like it belongs in this 16th-century building, with original details that remind you where you are without feeling like a museum. The bathrooms are compact (this is Venice, after all), but they’re well-designed and everything works properly. You know what’s nice? The windows actually open, so you can hear the gentle lapping of water and distant conversations drifting up from the street below.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have this lovely, unhurried quality — probably because you’re not surrounded by tour groups assembling at dawn. The breakfast setup is simple but thoughtful, with decent coffee and fresh pastries that don’t feel mass-produced. I actually enjoyed sitting in the small common area, planning the day while watching locals head off to work. There’s something grounding about staying in a neighborhood where people actually live, rather than just visit.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it doesn’t try too hard. Ca’ Anna in Biennale gives you an authentic slice of Venetian life without sacrificing the essentials — clean, comfortable accommodations in an unbeatable location. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, offering local recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. Sure, it’s not high-end, but it’s honest and well-executed. For travelers who want to feel like they’re discovering Venice rather than just checking it off a list, this little gem in Castello delivers exactly what you didn’t know you were looking for.

  • Katri from Finland – 12 May 2024 (8/10)

Sijainti oli hyvä, turistikatujen ja paikallisten välimaastossa. Alue oli rauhallinen. Vaporetot olivat lähellä.

What could be improved: Kylpyhuoneessa ei ollut mitään naulakoita/ koukkuja pyyhkeille.

  • Trevor from South Africa – 20 June 2023 (7/10)

Great location close to water bus stops, good restaurants and supermarket and other shops. The apartment was small but very clean and convenient. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed during our stay. The bed was comfortable with good bed linen.

What could be improved: The host seemed more concerned with collecting the tourist tax than getting us settled into the apartment, once that was sorted out the host was charming and responsive to any questions we had. There was little packing space in the bedroom, there was other stuff in some of the drawers that should be stored elsewhere.

  • Sylvain – 24 April 2023 (8/10)
