Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Cà Beatrice after a sweaty vaporetto ride from the train station – you know, the kind where you’re wedged in with tourists and their luggage, dodging the spray from the Grand Canal. It’s tucked away in Dorsoduro, right on that quiet stretch near Rio San Trovaso, where the boatbuilders still work on gondolas in those old squeri workshops. Honestly, arriving felt like stepping into a hidden corner of Venice that most day-trippers miss; no massive crowds like over in San Marco, just locals chatting in Venetian dialect outside tiny bacari bars. The address is Dorsoduro 2727, and if you’re walking from the Accademia Bridge – which I did, dragging my bag over those uneven stone paths – it’s about a 10-minute stroll, past that funky little gallery scene around Campo San Barnaba. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this warm Italian lady who speaks perfect English (with a bit of a sing-song accent), handed over the keys with a fresh espresso and a tip about the best time to hit the Zattere promenade for sunset – early evening, before the mosquitos come out in summer.

What really won me over, though, was how the place feels like a cozy Venetian home rather than some sterile hotel chain – I mean, it’s only 3 stars, but with a 9.2 rating, you can tell people love it for the authenticity. My room overlooked a narrow canal, and mornings started with the soft lapping of water against the walls and the distant clang of church bells from Santa Maria della Salute. The beds are firm but comfy, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender (they must use some local detergent), and there’s a small balcony where I sipped cheap prosecco from the corner market – nothing fancy, but perfect for people-watching the delivery boats zipping by. Breakfast is simple – croissants, yogurt, and killer cappuccinos – served in a sunny courtyard that’s surprisingly quiet, even during high season in July when the rest of Venice is a madhouse. Well, sort of quiet; you might hear the occasional seagull or a neighbor practicing violin, but it’s charming, not annoying. No elevator, mind you – it’s an old building, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing – and the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the back rooms, but hey, you’re in Venice; disconnect a little. Location-wise, it’s gold: a short walk to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection for some modern art vibes, or hop on the vaporetto at Ca’ Rezzonico stop for an easy ride to the Rialto without the hassle of changing lines.

All in all, if you’re after that real Venice experience without the tourist traps, Cà Beatrice is a gem – especially for couples or solo travelers who want to feel like they’re crashing at a friend’s place. It’s not luxurious, but that’s the point; it captures the soul of Dorsoduro, with its arty, laid-back energy and those hidden spots like the gelateria on Rio Terà Canal where locals queue up. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in shoulder season like October when the fog rolls in and everything feels even more magical – just bring good walking shoes, because those cobbles will test you. Trust me, it’s the kind of stay that lingers, long after you’ve left the lagoon.

  • Una from Latvia – 29 March 2025 (10/10)

Everything about the apartment was wonderful.
Location impeccable, Dorsoduro is great, one of the best neighborhoods to stay in Venice, there is a great grocery store (Conad) 3 minutes away.
There is a charming view from the terrace over the roofs, balconies and roof gardens of the surrounding buildings. The windows on both sides let in a lot of light. The amount of space is enough for a family to feel comfortable.
Perfect cleanliness, everyday cleaning and coffee-pod replacement. You don't have to think about trash disposal. Such luxury!
The caretaker Noel is extremely kind and helpful. Storing luggage can be arranged.

What could be improved: Everything was just great.

  • Samantha from Canada – 28 March 2025 (9/10)

Good space, confortable and clean with a nice view from the balcony, restaurants around and nearby

What could be improved: Difficult to access with luggage from train station with stairs to navigate to get to the property

  • Hasmik from Canada – 28 March 2025 (8/10)

    Location. Cleanliness. Hosts exceptionally friendly.

What could be improved: Rooms in the photos seem way larger with higher ceilings. Our room was really small and tight, luck for us we didn’t have much luggage, so the size was Ok for the short time stay.

  • Yong from China – 26 March 2025 (8/10)

The house is in a good location, a few minutes' walk to the canal. My room (CA' PESARO) is clean and has plenty of place. Overall, it offers good value for money.

What could be improved: Because my mobile number (roaming from China) didn't support registration with WhatsApp, I left them messages on Booking.com at lunch time on the day BEFORE my check-in date, asking for their email address so that I could send them my passport. There was NO reply for the whole day. Worried about how to reach them, I had to get a European SIM card in the end just for the purpose of registering with WhatsApp and sending them my passport. It was stressful and frustrating experience. All this trouble could have been avoided with a simple email. Another thing: When I was having a shower, the water became very hot for 2 or 3 seconds every 10 or 11 seconds, making it difficult to shower. I had to repeatedly move my body to avoid the very hot water. It was kind of annoying.

  • Jaakko from Finland – 22 March 2025 (10/10)

Location was great, it was easy to acces other parts of island, but be prepared to walk 1-2 kilometres to the sights. House was also cool and cooking was possible in the apartment. There is many restaurants right next to apartment for dinner and also for breakfast.

  • Lovin from United States – 16 March 2025 (9/10)

Everything was great. We were able to leave our bags in storage after check out.

What could be improved: Nothing was bad

  • Lopez from Mexico – 11 March 2025 (10/10)

The staff was really nice, they always clean the room and refill the coffee and cookies. Downstairs you have a coffee bar, so I liked that I could do some work while enjoying a coffee.

What could be improved: Everything good
