Walking down Calle Priuli dei Cavaletti in Cannaregio, you might almost miss Lagoon Apartment — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits quietly in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, away from the tourist crush but still incredibly well-connected. The building itself has that weathered Venetian elegance you see all over the city, but what struck me immediately was how peaceful this little corner feels compared to the chaos around San Marco.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about Cannaregio — it’s where actual Venetians still live and work. You’re a short walk from the train station (which is incredibly handy if you’re arriving with luggage), but more importantly, you’re surrounded by genuine local life. There’s a fantastic bacaro just around the corner where locals grab their morning coffee, and the evening aperitivo scene here feels refreshingly authentic. The location score of 9.3 makes total sense when you realize you can walk to the Rialto in about ten minutes, yet you’re staying somewhere that actually feels like Venice rather than a theme park version of it.

The Space Itself

The apartment setup works really well, especially if you’re planning to stay more than just a night or two. You get a proper sense of living in Venice rather than just visiting — there’s something about having your own space that changes the whole experience. The room I stayed in had those classic Venetian touches you’d expect, but nothing felt overdone or touristy. What I appreciated most was how quiet everything was, considering you’re still in the heart of the city. The windows face the right direction to catch morning light, which honestly makes a huge difference when you’re trying to shake off jet lag.

Getting Around

The water bus connections from this area are actually better than from many of the more central hotels. You can catch a vaporetto to Murano or Burano without having to navigate through the crowds at Rialto first, which saves you both time and sanity during peak season. I mean, there’s something to be said for being able to step out your door and feel like you’re discovering Venice rather than following the same path as every other tourist. The walk to San Marco takes maybe twenty minutes if you’re moving at a reasonable pace, but you’ll probably get distracted by all the little bridges and hidden squares along the way.

Why Guests Love It

That 8.6 rating reflects what you’d expect from a solid three-star place that knows exactly what it’s doing. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — no pretentious amenities or inflated promises. Instead, you get a comfortable base in an excellent location that lets you experience Venice more like a temporary resident than a tourist. Couples especially seem to get it, probably because there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of this incredible city. You know what really sold me though? Walking back late one evening and realizing I was genuinely excited to “go home” rather than just return to a hotel room.

  Beautiful apartment near the train station so only one tiny bridge with your luggage, thank goodness! Such a good location, quiet and comfortable but close enough to the action you don’t feel left out!
