Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re in Castello, which locals will tell you is one of the most authentic sestieri left in Venice. It’s got this excellent location score of 9.7, and after spending time here, I get why. You can walk to San Marco in about ten minutes, but you’re far enough away that you won’t hear the crowds at night. The Arsenale is practically around the corner, and there’s this fantastic little bacaro called Osteria alle Testiere nearby that serves some of the best seafood in the city. Couples especially seem to love it here — they rate the location a perfect 10, probably because it feels romantic without being overly touristy.

The Rooms

The accommodations at Ca’ Bottacin are what you’d expect from a well-run three-star place in Venice — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed within the constraints of a historic building. Don’t expect huge spaces (this is Venice, after all), but the rooms make smart use of every inch. The windows often overlook the quiet calle below, and there’s something peaceful about watching Venetians go about their daily routines. The bathrooms are modern and functional, which honestly matters more than you might think when you’re dealing with old Venetian plumbing.

Getting Around

One thing that really works in your favor here is the vaporetto access — you’re close to multiple stops without being right on the Grand Canal where it gets chaotic. The Arsenale stop is a short walk, and from there you can easily reach the Lido or head back toward the train station. I actually prefer staying in this part of Castello because you feel like you’re discovering Venice rather than just checking off the major sights. Plus, there’s a decent supermarket nearby, which comes in handy if you want to grab some Italian wine and snacks for an evening in.

  All round fantastic. Great location. Air conditioning was amazing – which we were worried about.
  Super clean. Host gave really helpful, clear instructions to help us find the apartment from the airport. Which was all super easy to follow.
  Allowed us to drop luggage off soon as arrived even though apartment wasn’t ready and left luggage on the last day after checkout.

  Really liked the apartment overall. Excellent location for sight-seeing and hopping on/off the vaporetto. Would happily return/recommend it. The owner is very helpful and provided plenty information/answered all questions quickly.
  
  What could be improved: The addition of a washing machine and ironing facilities would be useful for longer stays, as we have made use of both in past rentals, however we managed fine for the week without.

  Lovely, comfortable and very cute looking apartment. Absolutely loved the rooms & location Very helpful host who sent short video showing route to apartment from vaporetto stop.It is mostly well equipped and was so cosy during the couple of nights of bad weather we had. There is a great wee bar on corner and loads of fabulous bars & restaurants in the alleyways surrounding away from throng on waterfront.
  
  What could be improved: Loved everything about it BUT there is no iron and no access to washing machine although there is one in basement.
