Ca’ Bragadin e Carabba Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow sottoportego (that’s the Venetian term for covered passageway) to reach Ca’ Bragadin e Carabba feels like discovering a secret. This three-star hotel sits tucked away in Campo San Marina, and honestly, the approach through these ancient stone corridors sets the mood perfectly. You know you’re staying somewhere with real character when you have to navigate through passages that have been here for centuries — it’s quintessentially Venice. The hotel’s position in this historic quarter immediately transports you away from modern tourist crowds.

Location Magic

The location is actually what makes this place shine. I mean, when couples rate it 9.3 for romance, you know there’s something special going on. You’re in Castello, which feels more authentic than the tourist-heavy areas around San Marco, but you can still walk to all the major sights without breaking a sweat. The campo itself has this lovely neighborhood vibe — locals still hang their laundry from the windows and kids play football in the square. It’s the real Venice, not the postcard version. This authentic setting creates an unforgettable backdrop for your stay.

The Accommodation

The room I stayed in had that perfect balance of Venetian charm and modern comfort. The building dates back centuries, so you get those wonderful details like exposed beams and original terrazzo floors, but they’ve updated everything that actually matters for your stay. The bathrooms are modern, the Wi-Fi works reliably, and the air conditioning — trust me, you’ll appreciate this during summer months — keeps things comfortable even when Venice gets steamy. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered for guest satisfaction.

Neighborhood Discoveries

What I really loved was how this area comes alive once you step outside. There’s a fantastic bacaro (wine bar) just around the corner where locals gather for cicchetti and spritz — the kind of place you’d never find if you stayed near the Rialto. The morning walk to grab coffee becomes this little adventure through residential Venice, where you’ll see how people actually live here. Plus, you’re close enough to the Arsenale that you can explore that fascinating area without the crowds that swarm the main tourist routes. The surrounding streets reveal Venice’s true character.

Why Guests Love It

The 8.8 rating makes perfect sense once you experience the place. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — this isn’t a palazzo hotel with marble lobbies, but rather a genuine Venetian experience that doesn’t cost a fortune. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward hidden gems, and the whole setup feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s place than a typical hotel. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of Venice to return to after days spent wandering the canals. This hotel delivers authentic hospitality with warmth and local expertise.

  • Deepak from India – 22 March 2025 (8/10)

The property is in the main city area. Easy to visit most of the places in Venice.

What could be improved: I got lots of noise from outside early morning. Bit disturbing when people walk and talk outside.

  • Megi from Albania – 19 March 2025 (9/10)

A perfect location in a charming Venetian neighborhood, just a short walk from St. Mark’s Square and the Rialto Bridge.
The rooms are beautifully furnished, clean, and equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, even for a longer visit.

  • Alexander from Georgia – 18 March 2025 (9/10)

5 minutes to the Rialto Bridge, 10 minutes to St. Mark's Square. Cozy hotel, all amenities. Nice staff, especially Signora Patrizia. Special thanks for the early check-in.

  • Vicente from Spain – 16 March 2025 (8/10)

The reception staff were really nice and caring. The property has an unmatched location very close to Rialto Bridge. It used to be Giacomo Casanova’s house and we liked the little piece of history that we were able to experience by staying during our trip there.

What could be improved: The hairdryer was quite old and not very effective. Some appliances in the bathroom were not working properly.

  • Guilherme from Brazil – 7 March 2025 (9/10)

    Everything!

  • Busra from Turkey – 7 February 2025 (9/10)

Amazing location, we were a few mins away from the Rialto Bridge. We found great places to eat around in that area.
We informed the hotel about late checkin before going there. They explained us everything clearly. The room was warm even though it was freezing outside. Our room was quite big.

What could be improved: At night, we heard some noise from the room right next to us. You should get earplugs if you're a lightsleeper.

  • Goda from Lithuania – 6 February 2025 (9/10)

    Great location

  • Goldie from United States – 21 November 2024 (9/10)
