Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Ca’ Cerchieri Mezzanine almost by accident last spring – I’d just hopped off the vaporetto at the Ca’ Rezzonico stop, dodging the usual throng of day-trippers with their wheeled suitcases clattering over the bridges, and there it was, tucked away on this quiet little stretch of Dorsoduro 1262/A. Honestly, Venice can feel like a chaotic maze if you’re not careful, but this spot? It’s in that sweet, underrated part of Dorsoduro, away from the San Marco madness – you know, closer to the artsy vibe with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection just a five-minute stroll down the canal. I arrived a bit sweaty from the walk (pro tip: pack light, because those stone steps and narrow calli aren’t forgiving), and the check-in was this low-key affair in a cozy lobby that smelled faintly of old wood and fresh espresso. The host – this friendly local guy named Marco, I think – handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best nearby cicchetti bars, like that hidden one on Campo Santa Margherita where the spritzes are half the price of tourist traps. No fuss, no long lines; it felt more like crashing at a friend’s historic palazzo than some sterile hotel.
What really got me, though, was how the place nailed that authentic Venetian charm without trying too hard. It’s a 4-star setup, sure, but the rooms – well, mine was this mezzanine level with exposed beams and these massive windows overlooking a sleepy rio (that’s a small canal, for the uninitiated). The bed was plush, like sinking into a cloud after a day of pounding pavements, and there was this little kitchenette stocked with basics – perfect for brewing your own morning coffee instead of shelling out for overpriced stuff at the cafes. I mean, it’s not massive, and the bathroom’s on the snug side (watch your elbows in the shower), but everything’s spotless, with those thoughtful touches like fluffy towels that actually feel luxurious and a minibar that doesn’t gouge you. Noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet at night – no gondoliers belting out “O Sole Mio” at 2 a.m. like you’d get nearer the Rialto – though you might hear the occasional church bell or lapping water, which honestly just adds to the magic. And in high season, like July when the crowds swarm, this corner of Dorsoduro stays relatively chill; I wandered out to the Accademia Bridge at dusk and had the sunset views almost to myself.
Look, if you’re the type who wants Venice without the overwhelming hustle – maybe you’re into gallery-hopping or just chilling with a book by the water – Ca’ Cerchieri Mezzanine is a gem. It’s got that 9.2 rating for a reason, blending old-world texture (think creaky floors that whisper history) with modern perks like solid Wi-Fi that actually works for streaming your shows after a long day. Sure, there’s no on-site parking – but hey, it’s Venice, cars are a myth here anyway; just embrace the water taxis or your own two feet. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in November when the fog rolls in and the place feels even more intimate. You won’t regret it – it’s the kind of stay that makes you feel like you’ve unlocked a secret side of the city.

Exceptional quality in a regal place. Bedding was very comfortable. Easy to cook and dine in. Wonderful place for our family to explore Venice. The woman who helped during our stay, Enrica, was just wonderful – helpful and thoughtful.

It was like living in somebody's else's very nice apartment. Location was superb. Not a touristy neighbourhood. Lots of small local bars and restaurants. Many great museums and churches in walking distance.
