Ca’ dei Carmini Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Ca’ dei Carmini in the heart of Dorsoduro, you immediately sense you’ve found something special. This three-star boutique hotel sits tucked away on a quiet canal-side street, and honestly — the location alone makes it worth considering. I mean, you’re literally in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, where locals actually live and work, not just the touristy areas everyone flocks to.
The Dorsoduro Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in this part of Venice — you’re close enough to San Marco to walk there in about 15 minutes, but far enough away that you can actually breathe. The Dorsoduro district has this wonderful mix of art galleries, cozy bacari (those little wine bars locals frequent), and the stunning Peggy Guggenheim Collection just a few bridges away. You know what’s really nice? In the evening, when the day-trippers head back to the mainland, this area becomes incredibly peaceful. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of Venice.
Your Home Base
The hotel itself feels more like staying in a Venetian friend’s well-appointed home than a typical tourist accommodation. Each room has been thoughtfully designed with period details that remind you you’re in a historic palazzo, but with modern comforts that actually work (which, trust me, isn’t always a given in Venice). The staff here really knows their stuff — they’ll point you toward the best cicchetti spots and help you navigate the water bus system without making you feel like a complete tourist.
Getting Around
One thing that surprised me was how easy it is to get around from here. The Zattere vaporetto stop is just a short walk away, which connects you to basically everywhere you want to go. But honestly, some of my best Venice moments happened just wandering the narrow streets around the hotel. There’s this amazing little restaurant called Osteria ai Pugni practically around the corner — locals pack in there for lunch, which is always a good sign. And if you’re into churches (I mean, you’re in Venice, so why not?), the Chiesa dei Carmini next door has some beautiful Tiepolo frescings that most tourists never see.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Ca’ dei Carmini apart is that perfect balance between being central and being authentic. You’re not fighting crowds every time you step outside, but you’re also not stuck in some remote corner wondering how to get anywhere. The fact that couples consistently rave about the location tells you something — this is the kind of place where you can actually enjoy each other’s company instead of just surviving the Venice tourist machine. Plus, with an 8.2 rating, you know the basics are covered well. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers exactly what you need for a memorable Venice experience.

Reviews of Ca’ dei Carmini

Helpful, friendly staff. Clean, spacious & bright apartment. Good quality & clean linen. Amazing view of a canal. Lift for luggage. Easy stairs to climb. Good shower pressure & temperature.
What could be improved: Some chairs & bed looking tired.Andriy from United Kingdom – 5 March 2025 (8/10)
The balcony was a real treat for us. The location is just what we hoped for, excellent. Lots of light in the apartment; there is also a big kitchen, in addition to the spacious lounge, bedroom, and the bathroom.
Well functioning heating that can be adjusted to your liking.
What could be improved: The apartment requires regular maintenance, which has not been taken care of for some time. Too many things to mention here were shabby, broken, or just not working properly. The worst of them was probably the fluctuating temperature of the water stream in the shower – it was quite a challenge to take a shower without scalding yourself.Pamela from Canada – 2 February 2025 (9/10)
The location was perfect! And had a beautiful view. The apartment was spotless.

Met the agent at the property – easy to access. We paid a 35 euro surcharge as arrived after 7pm – they made that clear to us beforehand, so we knew. We loved the area for drinking, eating and transport links. Warm property. Very comfortable. Lovely view of a canal and heard the church bells in the morning. Would come back again.
What could be improved: We could not find a remote for the TV in the lounge areaBarry from United States – 12 October 2024 (9/10)
Large room with balcony
What could be improved: The bed was uncomfortableKaren from Australia – 30 September 2024 (9/10)
Location, clean and roomy with air con.
What could be improved: Bed mattress could be better. Another bed side lamp in bedroom otherwise perfect.Ricc from United Kingdom – 23 September 2024 (9/10)
The location was quiet, but still within a good walking distance from everything you would want to see – 25-30mins pleasant walk to Piazza San. Marco for example, passing lots of sights of interest & bars & restaurants, also just 15mins from the train & bus station.
Andrew from Canada – 19 September 2024 (7/10)
Warm water and Ac worked great, no noises and clean, good location and owner kept in touch and answered all our questions
What could be improved: Needs new bed, shower and leaky bathroom faucet leaks, extra towels would be niceLaurie from Australia – 17 September 2024 (8/10)
We loved the location and the lovely canal views. It was nice quiet area with good restaurants and cafes in the area.
What could be improved: As with many apartments, the furniture has had a lot of traffic. However, the bed was comfortable to sleep in.Tamás from Hungary – 24 October 2023 (9/10)
Spacious, comfortable apartment, 9 minutes walk from Piazzale Roma.
