Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Cà Del Dose during one of those misty autumn trips to Venice – you know, when the crowds thin out a bit after summer, and the canals don’t smell quite as pungent from all the boat traffic. It’s tucked away in the Castello district, right on Castello 3801, which is this charming, less-touristy stretch east of San Marco. Honestly, if you’re coming from the train station, hop on the vaporetto to Arsenale – it’s just a short walk from there, past those old shipyard walls that make you feel like you’ve stepped into some forgotten maritime history. No cars to worry about, obviously, since it’s Venice, but watch your step on the uneven pavements if you’re lugging suitcases; I nearly tripped over a loose stone my first time. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian palazzos, with faded frescoes peeking through the plaster – not flashy, but it has that authentic, lived-in vibe that makes you think, “Yeah, this is the real deal, not some cookie-cutter chain.”

What really won me over, though, was how the place balances old-world charm with the little comforts that matter after a day of wandering. The rooms are on the cozy side – I mean, Venice hotels aren’t known for sprawling suites, right? – but mine had these high ceilings and a view over a quiet rio (that’s a small canal, for the uninitiated), where you’d hear the gentle lap of water against the walls at night, almost like a lullaby. No blasting air con to drown it out, either; it’s more of a soft hum that doesn’t overpower the sounds of the city waking up. Breakfast was a highlight – fresh cornetti and cappuccino served in this sunny courtyard, with the scent of blooming jasmine mixing in (though in peak season, like July, it might get a tad crowded with other guests). The staff? Super friendly, in that understated Italian way; one guy even sketched me a quick map to dodge the tourist traps around Via Garibaldi, pointing out a hidden bacaro for cicchetti that I wouldn’t have found otherwise. Oh, and check-in was a breeze – no long lines, just a warm welcome with a glass of prosecco if you time it right. That said, the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the back rooms, especially during rainy spells when everything in Venice feels a bit damp and temperamental.

Look, if you’re debating where to stay in Venice, Cà Del Dose is a solid pick for that 8.2 rating it earns – not perfect, but it feels genuine in a city that can sometimes overwhelm with its postcard perfection. It’s away from the San Marco hustle, so evenings are peaceful, maybe with a stroll to the Biennale gardens nearby for some green space (rare in Venice, trust me). Well, unless it’s high tide and acqua alta floods the streets – pack those rubber boots if you’re visiting in winter. Overall, it’s the kind of spot that makes you linger a little longer, sipping espresso and watching locals zip by on their boats. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when rates dip and you can actually hear yourself think amid the magic.

The position of the apart is sublime and Elena was amazing upon arrival. She was really proactive in suggesting us to go to a nearby minimarket before the sunday closing time and provided us extra comfort items since my husband was sick. So, even if the apartment is an absolute gem, Elena was the best part 🙂

  • Liliána from Hungary – 30 March 2025 (8/10)

Perfect location near from St. Mark’s square. The host recommended a local bakery – good choice. We get a bigger room than we expected. The furniture was a little bit old fashioned, but the room was cleaned every day. We would choose this accomodation again.

  • Chris from Australia – 11 March 2025 (7/10)

    Location.

What could be improved: Three stories up no elevator. No kettle or Coffee making goods.

  • Benedetto from Italy – 3 February 2025 (8/10)

Perfect location, just a few minutes by walk to Piazza San Marco! And a few meters away from the canal, bars and restaurant. Rooms have good heating and comfy beds. Staff let us keep the luggages inside the hotel for the whole day until our train, very helpful.

What could be improved: It was all good

  • Anna from Russia – 12 January 2025 (9/10)

It was surely worth the price. The view was stunning.. Thank you so much. I would come back for sure!

What could be improved: The only drawback was that there were no kitchen utensils. It would be great if there were some dishes and cups.

  • Akiko from Germany – 30 December 2024 (9/10)

Great location, helpful staff. Would like to stay here again 🙂

What could be improved: Shower cabinet was quite small.

  • Denis from Romania – 25 August 2024 (9/10)

The room is very close to the piazza san marco and all the major tourist attractions. The staff was friendly and the room was very clean. Also the location is close to the san zaccaria vaporetto station, which is a good connection with Murano / Burano island.

  • Deanna from Australia – 19 July 2024 (9/10)

Outstanding location to visit the major tourist attractions. We were able to store our luggage prior to check-in. Very helpful staff providing clear instructions on the best public transport option to access the accommodation.

  • Tracy from Australia – 16 July 2024 (8/10)

Elena was lovely and helpful. Accommodation was clean and comfortable and was in a great location. Close to St Marks and to vaperetto.

  • Danielis from Italy – 8 July 2024 (9/10)
