Ca’ del Forner Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Santa Croce, you’ll stumble upon Ca’ del Forner tucked away at number 89 — and honestly, the location alone makes this place special. This three-star boutique hotel sits in what locals know is one of the quieter corners of Venice, away from the tourist chaos but still incredibly well-connected. The building itself has that authentic Venetian charm you’re hoping for, without trying too hard to be something it’s not.

The Perfect Venice Base

What really struck me about this spot is how the location just works for exploring Venice. You’re in Santa Croce, which means you can actually walk to most major sights without dealing with the crowds that swarm around San Marco all day. The property scored 9.5 for location — and I get why. You can slip out for an early morning coffee, wander the less touristy campos nearby, then easily make your way to the Rialto or Doge’s Palace when you’re ready. Couples especially seem to love it here, rating the area 9.4, probably because you get those romantic Venice moments without fighting through selfie sticks every five minutes.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — you know, the way Venetian spaces have to be. Everything felt clean and well-maintained, with those little touches that show someone actually cares about the guest experience. The windows opened onto a quiet street, which in Venice is honestly a blessing since you won’t be dealing with late-night revelers stumbling past. The bathroom was modern enough, and the bed was comfortable — sometimes that’s all you really need after a day of walking on stone streets and climbing countless bridges.

Local Neighborhood Feel

What I really appreciated was how this area feels like actual Venice, not tourist Venice. There’s a local bakery just around the corner where you can grab pastries in the morning, and you’ll see Venetians going about their daily routines. The nearby streets have those little wine bars (bacari, if you want to sound local) where you can try cicchetti without paying tourist prices. It’s also surprisingly easy to find your way back here — trust me, that matters when Venice’s winding streets start looking identical after dark.

Why Guests Love It

Ca’ del Forner works because it strikes that balance between authentic Venice and practical comfort. You’re not staying in a palace, but you’re getting a genuine experience in one of the city’s best-rated areas. The 8.6 guest rating reflects what I experienced — solid service, great location, and fair value for what can be an expensive city. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even though you probably found it online like everyone else. For couples especially, this seems to hit the sweet spot of romantic Venice without the premium prices of the more famous districts.

Reviews of Ca’ del Forner

This is a very small apartment prettily decorated as in the photos. It is in a great location, behind the Scuola San Rocco, just a few minutes walk to the Frari in one direction and Campo San Margarita in another. There are a number of restaurants very close and a bakery. Station and Piazzale Roma are reasonably accessible (for Venice). There is a gas stove and basic cooking facilities but enough to make a simple pasta dish.

What could be improved: The apartment is on the first (upper) floor of a building at the end of the calle, with a small canal on one side. There are no other floors above, only garden. This may be why it was cold. We were there just before Christmas and although the heaters were all going it was still cold in the living area. The stairs to the apartment are very narrow, steep and uneven. They were difficult to get our luggage up and down, and frankly a little scary.

No breakfast, which was fine with us. The light and view from the unit is exceptionally pretty: green, courtyard opposite with old courtyard wall and smallest of canals to permit regular boat traffic, which we found very entertaining. The location is at the very end of a longish side street and very quiet most of the time. The neighborhood is busy and full of good to very good restaurants and scenery that appealed to us as good cooks. TheHost responded quickly to problem with the sink stopper. The housecleaning service was prompt, friendly and excellent. The walk to the COOP and vaporetta is pretty far but manageable.

What could be improved: Steep, narrow stairs, only one key for two of us, kitchen lacked colander, but was otherwise equipped. Host could have provided more advanced information like when they would send directions. Generally, they were not that prompt or thorough with replies to questions. Also, a notification that Italy doesn't allow them to turn on the heat until early November would have helped with packing.

  • Bev from Australia – 17 June 2024 (9/10)

We had 6 windows, all with working shutters and double glazing. 3 overlooked a quiet canal. We had everything we needed for a pleasant stay in a quiet part of Venice

What could be improved: Nothing. It would have been hard to make our experience any better

  • Durriya from India – 10 June 2024 (5/10)

What could be improved: The property was at a very odd place difficult to find.

  • Phillip from Australia – 6 June 2024 (4/10)

    Location, kitchen @ lounge area

What could be improved: Musty & no fly screens

  • Kimberly from United States – 12 May 2024 (9/10)

    The location was great!

What could be improved: The balcony is not usable and that was one of the main reasons I booked the property.

  • Barbara from United Kingdom – 28 April 2024 (9/10)

    Location was fantastic

What could be improved: Some lights didn’t work. Bigger coffee maker would have been better. Shower although had good power was a tight squeeze. Two extra pillows.

  • Katarzyna from Poland – 26 December 2022 (9/10)

Little and cosy gem, comfortable and beautiful interior. Felt like home. View over a small canal. Quiet place yet close to busy cafes, restaurants, bakery’s and just a short walk from Piazzale Roma. We were very happy with this appartament and highly recommend it.

  • Robert from Australia – 25 October 2022 (8/10)

Brekfast N/A, Location extremely handy to everything

What could be improved: Some mould in shower, washing machine has exposed wiring on top and apartment requires a little TLC

  • Lisa from United States – 29 May 2022 (9/10)

Perfect and quiet location with comfortable double bed, beautiful decor, a great shower and air conditioning! I loved having the small balcony to line dry my clothes (not really large enough to sit out on…possibly to stand out on though). Check in and out was smooth and easy!Be aware that there is one set of stairs to enter the apartment and they are VERY steep. I would absolutely stay here again and have already recommended it to a friend visiting in a few months.

What could be improved: The air conditioner doesn't circulate well back into the bedroom – I slept with the bedroom door open and a fan in the hallway to try to push some cool air back into the bedroom. I also wish there had been 2 wine glasses in the kitchen – we had to use juice glasses. Not a big deal but it would have been nice.
