Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Ca’ del Monastero 6 almost by accident last spring, right when Venice was shaking off the winter chill but before the summer crowds turned the canals into a mosh pit. It’s tucked away in Santa Croce at Santa Croce 1711, this quiet little pocket that’s just a stone’s throw from the Piazzale Roma vaporetto stop – honestly, a godsend if you’re lugging bags from the airport bus or train station. No cars in Venice, obviously, so I trudged over the Calatrava Bridge with my suitcase clattering on the stones, but it was only about a five-minute walk, dodging the occasional delivery cart and inhaling that briny lagoon air mixed with fresh bread from the bakery on Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio nearby. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me at the door with a key and a quick rundown – no fuss, no long lines like at those big hotels near San Marco. Stepping inside, well, it felt like slipping into someone’s stylish Venetian hideaway rather than a sterile rental. The place is part of this collection of apartments in an old building – Ca’ del Monastero, with that nod to some ancient monastery vibe, though it’s all modern chic now.
What really won me over was how it balances that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes life easy for four people crashing here. The lift – yeah, it’s got one, which is a rarity in these historic spots and saved my knees after a day of wandering. The apartment’s got this airy layout with high ceilings and exposed beams that sort of whisper history, you know? Big windows overlooking a narrow rio (that’s a small canal for the uninitiated), where I could hear the gentle lap of water and the occasional gondolier chatting in dialect – not the touristy serenades, but real local banter. Kitchen’s fully kitted out, perfect for whipping up pasta from the market at Rialto (just a 15-minute stroll away, crossing the Grand Canal via the Scalzi Bridge), and the beds are comfy enough that I slept like a log despite the faint church bells from Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari echoing in the mornings. It’s rated 9.3 for a reason – super clean, with thoughtful touches like fresh linens and a coffee machine that brews a mean espresso. Oh, and it’s in Santa Croce, which means you’re close to authentic spots like the natural wine bars along Fondamenta dei Tolentini, but far enough from the San Polo chaos that nights are peaceful, especially off-season. Minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours – I mean, it’s Venice, signals bounce off all that water – but nothing a quick reset couldn’t fix.
All in all, if you’re after a four-star spot that feels lived-in and genuine, not some glossy chain, this is it. I spent my days exploring hidden courtyards in Dorsoduro or hopping a vaporetto to the islands, then retreating here for sunset aperitivi on the balcony. It’s pricey in high season, sure, but for a group of four splitting costs, it’s a steal compared to cramped hotel rooms. Honestly, it made me fall harder for Venice – the real one, away from the selfie sticks. If you’re planning a trip, book it early; places like this fill up fast, especially around Carnevale when the whole city buzzes with masks and mystery.

A perfect place for a stay in Venice. Well equipped, comfortable and spacious location in a quite place, however only a short walk away from restaurants and supermarket. The location is easy to reach with a Vaporetto from Grand Canal and Piazzale Roma. Good and friendly conversation with the hosts and Amir who gave us a warm welcome and valueable tips. We can strongly recommend this accomodation.

The location was great! Easy to get to from the train station but not too close and the plaza was quiet.
Radu from United Arab Emirates – 9 April 2023 (10/10)
The staff was very helpful from the first contact until we left.
The apartment is quite big, well equipped, with easy access to the water bus station. Walking to the main landmarks is a 15-20 minutes stroll through Venice's picturesque alleys.
All in all, an excellent stay and highly recommend.Emilia from Australia – 29 September 2022 (10/10)

Catarina gave us great advise on how to get to the apartment. As well as information on things to do and see and places to eat. It was easy to get to everything from the location and very quiet at night away from the tourist area. There is a grocery store within 3 mins walk and a great Gelato place that does gluten free and some sorbets. I would stay here again
What could be improved: Just a very small one. The apartment could do with a little more storage in the kitchen.Nina from United Kingdom – 8 June 2022 (9/10)

Roomy with kitchen. Lift was helpful for luggage.
What could be improved: A bit far from San Marco. Walls are thin so unfortunately we could hear the other guests’ small children crying all night.Vesna from Croatia – 4 October 2023 (10/10)
