Ca’ di Giò Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Calle Larga dei Boteri in Cannaregio, you might almost miss Ca’ di Giò if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star boutique hotel sits quietly on one of Venice’s more authentic streets, away from the tourist chaos but still incredibly well-connected. The entrance has that understated Venetian elegance you hope for, without any of the pretension that sometimes comes with canal-side properties.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re actually in a neighborhood where Venetians live and work, not just a museum district. The Cannaregio area gives you real Venice vibes, with local bakeries and wine bars just steps away. You can walk to the Rialto Bridge in about ten minutes, but you’re far enough from the madness to get a good night’s sleep. The location score of 9.5 isn’t just marketing fluff — couples especially seem to get it, rating the area 9.6 for romantic getaways, and I can see why.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — you know how Venetian buildings can be quirky with space, but they’ve made it work beautifully here. The decor strikes that perfect balance between traditional Venetian touches and modern comfort, with quality linens and surprisingly good water pressure (trust me, that matters after a long day of walking on cobblestones). The windows open onto the street below, and there’s something magical about hearing the morning sounds of the neighborhood waking up.

Daily Rhythms

Breakfast happens in a cozy ground-floor space that feels more like a friend’s dining room than a hotel setup. Nothing fancy, but the coffee is proper Italian strong, and they source pastries from a local bakery that clearly knows what they’re doing. The staff — and this is important in Venice where service can be hit or miss — actually seem to care about your experience. They’ll give you real directions, not just tourist trap recommendations, and they understand that sometimes you just want to know where to find a decent sandwich at 2 PM.

Why Guests Love It

With a 9.4 rating, Ca’ di Giò is doing something right, and I think it comes down to authenticity. This isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in Venice — it’s trying to be the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in the real city, not just visiting it. The price point makes sense for what you get, the location puts you in the heart of things without the noise, and honestly, the whole experience just feels genuine. You’ll leave feeling like you discovered something special, which in a city as touristy as Venice, is worth its weight in gold.

Locals suggest to book apartments in Venice around Cannaregio for artisan glass studios and uncrowded canals.

Reviews of Ca’ di Giò

  • Carsten from Norway – 22 November 2024 (10/10)

Location in a quiet area very close to everything. Comfortable bed. Cozy, small apartment with modern interior. Perfect location when arriving with waterbus from the airport with a stop a few steps from the apartment.

  • Bryan from United States – 16 October 2024 (10/10)

Beautiful, clean, apartment for two in a relatively quiet area of Venice. It has easy access to the F.te Nove ferry stop for a short trip to/from the airport, or to get to other stops around Venice — we typically preferred to walk, as there is a ton to see along the way. Our host was very responsive, offering directions and ferry timetables to help us learn our way around.

  • Evanna from United Kingdom – 12 October 2024 (9/10)

Location near Fondamente Nove is very convenient for the boat from Marco Polo airport, and is quieter than the more touristed areas of Venice. An atmospheric, interesting walk to St Mark's Square etc. Some nice waterfront cafes for breakfast, plenty of lovely restaurants nearby.

The flat is compact but perfectly adequate: you enter into a small kitchen with table, which leads into a small shower room, which is fine, and into the larger bedroom, comfortable bed, cupboard space. All very nicely decorated, clean, and quiet.

We were provided with a key code to enter, the flat is easy to find from Fondamente Nove.

The host was helpful with providing warmer bedding.

  • Hannah from United Kingdom – 18 September 2024 (9/10)

Lovely apartment with everything you need for a great trip. Host met on arrival to show property and give recommendations- she also sent me directions how to get to the property so had no trouble finding it. A few mins walk from the water taxi stop. Excellent location to explore Venice by foot and return to peaceful accommodation.

Great little apartment, location was good too. It has everything you need for a few days with lots on your doorstep.

What could be improved: Nothing, it was all lovely.

  • Lee from Taiwan – 3 August 2024 (10/10)

The apartment and the host, Giovanne, both are wonderful. She prepared almost everything that you can think of when you stay in an apartment on a tour. We had a wonderful time staying in this apartment and exploring Venice!!

What could be improved: Nothing that I can think of.

  • Kevin from Ireland – 25 June 2023 (10/10)

Modern, clean, functional, and in a quiet location. Air conditioning & a smart TV in the bedroom. 2min walk to ferry boat/restaurants and max 10-15min walk to main shops/grand canal. This studio apartment is very well decorated and laid out. Sliding door with frosted glass to separate bedroom from kitchen. Adequately sized modern bathroom came with shower gels, etc. Our host was super helpful from the very beginning prior to arrival, a warm helpful welcome when we came and kindly gave us the water bus times to meet our early departure. Host also supplied a generous welcome basket of food stuffs/water. 10/10 from me.
