Cà Fontana Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow streets of Castello to find Cà Fontana, you’ll probably pass it once before realizing you’ve arrived — it’s tucked into the neighborhood so naturally that it feels more like discovering a local secret than checking into a hotel. The three-star property sits quietly on a typical Venetian street, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. There’s no grand entrance or flashy signage, just that authentic Venice feeling where you’re staying somewhere real locals might actually live.
Location & neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot in Castello — you’re genuinely in one of Venice’s most livable neighborhoods, away from the tourist chaos but still close enough to everything that matters. The location score of 9.6 isn’t just numbers on a screen; when you step outside, you’ll understand why couples rate this area so highly. You can actually walk to St. Mark’s Square in about ten minutes, but the street itself feels wonderfully residential. I mean, you’ll see locals hanging laundry and chatting with neighbors, which is pretty rare in central Venice these days.
The Rooms
The accommodations at Cà Fontana are what you’d expect from a well-run three-star place — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged without trying to be something they’re not. The rooms feel authentically Venetian with their traditional touches, though don’t expect cutting-edge amenities or sprawling spaces (this is Venice, after all, where even palazzos have compact rooms). What struck me most was how quiet everything stays at night, which is actually remarkable given how close you are to major attractions. The bathrooms are modern enough, and you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need after a long day of walking on stone streets.
Getting Around
One thing that really matters in Venice — and something you don’t always think about until you’re dragging luggage over bridges — is how accessible your hotel actually is. Cà Fontana sits in a part of Castello where you can reach it relatively easily from the main water bus stops, though you’ll still have that quintessential Venice experience of navigating narrow passages with your bags. The Arsenale vaporetto stop is your friend here, and from there it’s a manageable walk that doesn’t involve too many bridge climbs. Plus, being in this top-rated area means you’re positioned perfectly for exploring both the major sights and the quieter corners that most visitors miss entirely.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to this place isn’t flashy amenities or over-the-top service — it’s that rare combination of authentic location and solid comfort that’s honestly hard to find in Venice anymore. The 7.9 rating reflects exactly what you get: a reliable, well-positioned base that lets you experience Venice like you’re actually staying in the city rather than just visiting it. Couples especially seem to appreciate how the neighborhood feels romantic without being touristy, and I get that completely. You’re close enough to duck into San Marco when you want that iconic Venice experience, but far enough away that you can also grab a coffee at a local bar where the barista might actually remember your order by day three.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Venice before acqua alta alerts to snag suites with private fondaco docks.

Reviews of Cà Fontana

It was just off the beaten path enough to start and end each day on a calm note, but close enough to everything. There is an excellent bakery and a pizza spot right around the corner, and a little store that came in clutch for late night snacks and drinks. It was super clean, quiet, and comfortable. We couldn’t have been happier with it.

Buena ubicación, espacio grande y bien cuidado. Volvería a ir
What could be improved: La calefacción dejaba de funcionar y no la podías regular tú. Salía muy poca agua de la ducha, aunque entiendo que es algo que pasa en Venezia por lo que no es culpa del apartamento en sí. En los techos había como "telarañas" de polvo, nada grave pero con un poco más de cuidado sería un 10 en todo.Gisella from United Kingdom – 29 October 2024 (7/10)
The property is in an excellent location , close to St Marks square, and other attractions. Great restaurants and shops only minutes away .
What could be improved: The bedrooms were on the cold side in the evening but there were no blankets or heating. The towels provided for our 4 night stay remained wet after use as there was no where to dry them. Also could have done with a tea towel to dry dishes. The living room was very small , with only 2 seats.Nádia from Portugal – 1 October 2024 (8/10)
– small but very cozy apartment with everything we needed for a few days stay. Complete kitchen with all the things to prepare a home meal if necessary. Bathroom with soap and shampoo and with a hair dryer.
– good wifi conection.
-House very clean. A little smell of damp in the room, which was expected. Its Venice! But opening the windows a bit everyday helped to reduce it a lot.
– Located in a very nice and queit area, with restaurants, bakeries and convinience stores. Less than 15 min nice walk to Piazza San Marco and less than 5 min from the great lagoon where you can take a vaporetoo to the grand canal or a boat to the airport.
-Hosts were always very nice and helpfull either before and during the trip, and received us upon arrival to the apartment.
It was an excellent stay at beautiful Venice.
What could be improved: Its is not about the apartment itself, but it is something you should be prepared for your stay in Venice: Beware of the mosquitoes, especially in the summer.Michael from United States – 13 July 2024 (9/10)
Location and the bathroom was great
What could be improved: We had to pay a late fee because they didn’t instruct us that we need to leave the car at a parking lot and take a ferry to the place. There was a bad smell in the apartment.Mark from United Kingdom – 2 October 2023 (9/10)
Great location near major sites but far enough away to enjoy where the locals go.
What could be improved: The flat is great but didn’t have a working tv and no welcome tea/coffee. There small details but if they were present I would have giving 10/10 in every area.Xavier from Mozambique – 20 August 2023 (7/10)
What could be improved: Good location, clean and good price
Carmen from United States – 1 August 2023 (8/10)
What could be improved: El dormitorio principal huele un poco a humedad, por lo demás perfecto
Ana from Spain – 29 July 2023 (8/10)
La cercanía al centro. Pero lejos de todo el turismo. Aunque no hizo falta el aire acondicionado, siempre es muy buena opción
What could be improved: No puedo decir nada al respecto. Quizás, al llegar desde el centro, de noche, las calles dan respeto. Pero eso es acostumbrarse en VeneciaNatasha from Germany – 6 July 2023 (7/10)
What could be improved: Der Geruch
