Hotel Description
I remember stumbling off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro stop – you know, that gorgeous Gothic palace that’s basically a landmark in Cannaregio – and weaving my way through those narrow calli to find Ca’ Fosca Home. It’s tucked away on Calle Zancani, right off Campo Santa Fosca, which is this charming little square that’s not overrun with tourists like San Marco. Honestly, after lugging my suitcase over a couple of those humpbacked bridges, I was relieved to spot the place; it’s in a historic building that sort of blends right into the neighborhood, with that classic Venetian facade – think faded ochre walls and shuttered windows that creak a bit when the wind picks up from the lagoon. Check-in was straightforward, handled by the Wonderful Italy folks who sent me a code ahead of time – no fuss, just punch it in and you’re home. I mean, it’s not a full-service hotel with a concierge hovering, but for a 4-star spot with a 7.7 rating, it feels more like borrowing a local’s apartment, which is kind of the vibe I was after in Venice.
What really won me over was how the place captures that authentic Venetian essence without trying too hard. My room – well, apartment really, since it’s got a kitchenette and all – overlooked the campo, and mornings started with the sound of church bells from nearby Santa Fosca and the faint chatter of neighbors gossiping in dialect over their espresso. The decor’s a mix of modern comforts and old-world charm: exposed wooden beams that smell faintly of aged timber, comfy beds with crisp linens, and a bathroom that’s surprisingly spacious for Venice standards (no awkward shower-over-toilet situations here). I cooked a simple pasta one night using stuff from the Rialto Market – it’s just a 10-minute walk away, past the bustling Strada Nova with its hidden bacari for cicchetti and spritz. Actually, the location’s a gem if you’re into exploring the quieter side of the city; you’re steps from the Jewish Ghetto, where you can grab kosher treats or wander those atmospheric synagogues. Noise-wise, it’s peaceful after dark – no late-night revelers like in Dorsoduro – but watch out during high season in summer when the campo fills with kids playing soccer until dusk. Oh, and parking? Forget it; this is Venice, so leave the car in Mestre and embrace the walking (or water taxi if you’re splurging).
Look, it’s not flawless – the Wi-Fi can be spotty when everyone’s streaming, and there’s no elevator, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing – but for the price and that real-deal immersion, Ca’ Fosca Home is a solid choice. I left feeling like I’d actually lived a slice of Venetian life, not just snapped selfies at the hotspots. If you’re the type who wants to dodge the crowds and wake up to the smell of fresh bread from the corner forno, this place will treat you right. Just time your visit for shoulder season, like April or October, when the fog rolls in and everything feels a tad more magical.

Location was amazing. There is a canal view from the living room window.
What could be improved: Needs a couch and maybe a double bed.Katherine from United States – 3 September 2024 (7/10)
Excellent instructions were sent to help us find and enter the property, and also in case of various issues (which we did not have). The location was great, nice area, walkable to sights. Apartment is spacious, 2 bathrooms and laundry are nice as were the extra pillows. If you’re planning to do laundry please note the cycles in Europe take much longer so be sure to select the rapido cycle!
What could be improved: The front door was difficult to open and shut. Another chair or bigger couch would be nice to accommodate 4. Watch the step in the bedroom!Mircea-mihai from Romania – 29 April 2024 (8/10)
Good position, well equiped.
What could be improved: House is quite old, same thing for the furnitureArden from United States – 22 June 2023 (7/10)
Air conditioning was great. Good water pressure for Italy. Great washer dryer. Good location – especially if you don’t want to be in too touristy area. Size was good. Beds were fine.
What could be improved: Apartment is dark (which was okay with the heat but maybe not for everyone) Bathroom shower was moldy in back shower. Half used products from prior guests were left for us to use (which I hate to waste but still felt weird). Set up in living room is strange with two chairs – and not conducive to family time – especially when you have to escape the heat. Lack of directions as to managing apartment- although not hard to figure out. Apartment building itself was dirty- hallway was really gross and visibly dirty when we arrived but someone did come and mop it. Floors felt a little Sandy when walking around barefoot.Daniel from Poland – 12 November 2023 (8/10)
Well-organized information. The message comes by e-mail with details about your stay. the apartment is large and spacious, freshly renovated and clean. The TV and music equipment is new. washing machine, dryer. It is a bit away from the center, but therefore rather quiet. There are plenty of bars 100 meters away on Rio della Misericordia.
De from South Africa – 2 July 2023 (6/10)
The place is spacious and close to everything. It is a nice quiet street with an outside view over a quiet canal.
Entry and exit very easy.
What could be improved: The coffee machine didn't work at all and didn't get much help with it. Tumble dryer was ok but not working 100% and both washing machine and tumble dryer dirty. There were socks in washing machine and used cakes of soap on the cupboard and on top of shower head from previous guests. Relatively kleen place….Carolina from Italy – 30 October 2024 (5/10)
What could be improved: The apartment had a super strong smell of clorox. One of our friends is a doctor and she was very alarmed. We opened all the windows but the smell remained yet mosquitoes flew in. The place is OK but it lacked a bit of cleanliness especially with the furniture (despite the clorox odor).
Arianna from Italy – 10 September 2024 (8/10)
La posizione, gli spazi ampi e la presenza di 2 bagni
What could be improved: Necessaria maggior attenzione ai dettagli/finiture.
