Ca’ Frutariol Apartment Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to find Ca’ Frutariol Apartment feels like you’re on a treasure hunt — and honestly, that’s half the charm. This three-star property sits tucked away on Rio Terà Barba Frutariol, which sounds intimidating but is actually just a quiet street that locals use as a shortcut. The building itself has that weathered Venetian character you’d expect, with those classic shutters and the kind of entrance that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special rather than just checking into another tourist spot.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re in Cannaregio, which means you get the real Venice experience without the crushing crowds of San Marco. The Jewish Quarter is literally around the corner, and you know what? That means some of the best bacari (wine bars) in the city are within stumbling distance. Couples seem to get this — they’ve rated the location 9.6, and I can see why. You can walk to the train station in about ten minutes, but more importantly, you’re close enough to the Grand Canal to hear the water taxis without paying Grand Canal prices for accommodation.

The Space Itself

The apartment setup works really well here — you get more space than a typical hotel room, plus there’s a kitchenette that’s actually functional (I mean, it’s small, but you can make coffee and store groceries from the morning markets). The furnishing feels authentically Venetian without being overly themed — think exposed beams and tile floors rather than gondola-print curtains. The windows open onto the street, and while it’s not a canal view, you get those lovely morning sounds of the neighborhood waking up instead of tour groups shuffling past.

Getting Around

One thing that surprised me was how easy it is to navigate from here. The Guglie vaporetto stop is maybe a five-minute walk, which connects you to basically everywhere you want to go. But honestly, some of my favorite discoveries happened just wandering this area — there’s a tiny restaurant called Osteria Al Ponte that serves the kind of cicchetti that makes you understand why Venetians never leave Venice. The morning fish market at nearby Rialto becomes part of your routine when you’re staying here, especially since you have that kitchen to actually use what you buy.

Why Guests Love It

The 8.5 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting — it’s not trying to be fancy, but it delivers on the things that matter. The location score of 8.9 tells the real story here. You’re positioned perfectly to experience Venice like someone who actually lives here, not just passes through. The space gives you room to breathe (literally important in a city where most accommodations feel like elegant closets), and the neighborhood offers that perfect balance of authentic local life with easy access to the major sights. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because leaving feels like abandoning a temporary Venetian life you’ve built.

Best hotels in Venice blend frescoed salons, marble hammams, and rooftop altanas for prosecco sunsets.

Reviews of Ca’ Frutariol Apartment

  • Mary from United States – 3 April 2025 (9/10)

Wonderful location. With the added charm of a small courtyard and coincidentally a fresh fruit and vegetable market and news stand just outside our door. Grocery and restaurant just around the corner. Yet off the beaten path and quiet for the most part

What could be improved: On a weekend night some people banged on our door over and over and tried to get in. Although the owner had no control over this issue and the door is locked securely

  • Kevin from United States – 8 September 2024 (9/10)

Clean, good value, hosts responsive (allowed early bag drop), next to cute fruit stand + restaurants/bar (Bar Puppa is bomb!), good space to relax

What could be improved: Check in was a little late (mid afternoon), unclear communication re: City Bnb/Hotel Tax (posting said pay online, host said pay cash — all was legit and fine, just not super clear ahead of time)

  • Matthew from Canada – 9 July 2024 (9/10)

Best place in Venice for this price point! My friends and I loved the private court yard . This place is 10/10

  • Dominik from Poland – 30 May 2024 (9/10)

Nice clean apartment, great service from the owners, very good location!

  • Lisa from Germany – 11 May 2024 (9/10)

It is a really good location and inside it was more that we've been expecting. A lot of space and a good little backyard where we spent our nights enjoying good weather. Quick and helpful communication with the owners. Also a very nice thing – there're two rooms and each room has its own bathroom.

I would definitely recommend this place to stay in Venice.

What could be improved: There was mould in one bathroom and the door to the shower was broken (we still managed to use it though, it was not completely broken). In another room it was colder in the night, but it's unfortunately not something you can fix as an owner in the beginning of April. Just a note for travellers who are sensible to temperature.

  • Jeannie from United Kingdom – 10 May 2024 (8/10)

Fairly spacious, well equipped apartment in a non- touristy but central neighbourhood. Quiet. Very clean.

What could be improved: Wobbly table

  • Christi from United States – 26 April 2024 (7/10)

    Simple and clean

What could be improved: There were no trash cans

  • Cristiankaspary from Canada – 13 September 2023 (8/10)

Apartment was good for a family of 4. It was a bit dated but had everything we needed.
    Beds super comfortable.

What could be improved: The shower needs fixing since the sliding doors fall off easily and shower head doesn't work very well.

  • Ramandeep from India – 18 June 2023 (9/10)

Everything. The hosts were superb. The apartment has all the amenities one look forward to. The kitchen is very well equipped. Would love to stay here again

    What could be improved: Nothing
