Hotel Description

I remember stepping off the train at Santa Lucia station – you know, that bustling hub where everyone drags their suitcases over the Ponte degli Scalzi – and thinking, thank goodness Ca’ Geremia Apartment is just a quick stroll away on Rio Terà Lista di Spagna. It’s right in the heart of Cannaregio, which honestly feels like the real Venice, away from the tourist crush of San Marco but still close enough to wander over if you fancy. I mean, it’s literally steps from the vaporetto stop at Ferrovia, so hopping on a water bus to the Rialto or even out to Murano is a breeze – no lugging bags through endless alleys. The building itself has that classic Venetian vibe, with its weathered stone facade and those narrow windows overlooking the canal; you can hear the gentle lap of water against the walls in the evenings, especially when things quiet down after the day-trippers head out. Check-in was straightforward – the host met me right on time, handed over the keys with a few insider tips on where to grab the best cicchetti nearby, like at that little bacaro on Strada Nova just around the corner. Oh, and fair warning: Venice being Venice, there’s no parking anywhere near, so if you’re driving, park in Mestre and train in – saves a headache.

What really won me over about Ca’ Geremia was how it felt like a proper home base in a city that can sometimes overwhelm you with its crowds and humidity. It’s rated a solid 8.7 for good reason – the apartment’s got that airy, four-star polish without being stuffy. Think exposed wooden beams on the ceiling (a bit creaky, but charming), a kitchenette stocked with basics so you can whip up espresso from the local market on Campo Santa Margherita – well, actually, that’s a bit of a walk, but worth it for fresh produce. The beds are comfy, with those crisp linens that smell faintly of lavender, and the bathroom’s modern enough, though the shower’s on the snug side, which is par for the course in these old palazzos. I loved the little balcony – nothing fancy, but sipping wine there at dusk, watching gondolas glide by on the Cannaregio Canal, it’s pure magic. Noise-wise, it’s quieter than you’d expect for such a central spot; mornings might have some chatter from folks heading to the Jewish Ghetto (a must-visit, by the way, with its hidden synagogues and kosher spots), but by night, it’s peaceful – unless it’s high season in summer, when the whole area’s buzzing till late. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours, but hey, you’re in Venice; put the phone down and explore.

All in all, if you’re after an authentic slice of Venetian life without breaking the bank – it’s not the cheapest, but for the location and that lived-in feel, it’s spot on – I’d say book Ca’ Geremia. It’s perfect for couples or small families who want to ditch the hotel rigidity and actually cook a meal or two. Just time it for shoulder season, like April or October, when the fog rolls in and the streets empty out a bit; that’s when the city’s romance really shines through. You won’t regret it – I sure didn’t.

Reviews

  • Ying from Italy – 28 October 2023 (9/10)

The property was very close to Santa Lucia station. It was on the busiest street but at night we still slept tight. The room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful.

What could be improved: The only thing was the not functioning lamp in the kitchen and the broken fixture(seat) of the toilet. But for the lamp, the staff came and fixed it right away! So there’s no problems. Everything was nice.

  • Helen from United Kingdom – 18 March 2025 (8/10)

Great location, 5 minutes walk from the bus station, 2 minutes walk from the Vaperetto stop. A Spar shop opposite the apartment for the essentials was very handy. Lot's of restaurants and bars in this neighbourhood.
The apartment is very spacious, and well presented and very clean. 5 single beds in total.

What could be improved: The building is quite noisy with people coming and going, and people ringing the buzzer in error. The street is noisy when windows are open. Could have done with more lamps as was quite dark and don't always want the main light on.
    One toilet was sometimes challenging

  • Harry from United States – 1 January 2025 (9/10)

The location was a 5 minute walk to the train station and the water taxi drop off dock; it was also on a busy street which was also a positive; there was a luggage storage facility a block away which was also very convenient since our train departed a few hours after our check out time.

What could be improved: There was no carpet or rugs so sound travelled through the apartment, including neighbors opening and closing doors…not a big deal but louder than we are used to in the USA.

  • Mite from Australia – 20 October 2024 (9/10)

    Location, staff communication was exceptional

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Joyce from United States – 6 October 2024 (9/10)

Loved the location- easy to get from train station and to the vaporettos.
Also liked that there was shampoo/soap in the apartment.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Peter from United Kingdom – 31 August 2024 (9/10)

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Ian from United Kingdom – 24 August 2024 (8/10)

    Position and price

What could be improved: Beds were awful, mini kids beds for grown men doesn’t work

  • Michele from United Kingdom – 27 April 2024 (9/10)

Perfect location. Near the station and the vaporetto stop. Facilities were great and instructions were very comprehensive for access and basic needs. We had everything in the apartment that was necessary for our visit.

What could be improved: There was one mosquito who joined us for the visit 🫣 😂 but we know that there are a lot in Venice anyway so it’s worth knowing to be prepared. The apartment had the mosquito plugs available.

  • Thidarat from Thailand – 16 April 2024 (9/10)

    Close to Milano Central Station.
    Good facility, very clean,

  • Chun from Singapore – 22 December 2023 (9/10)

Near the train station and it’s along the start of the main shopping street. If you don’t want to drag your luggage up and down bridges, or to take any water taxis or buses, this is a great location. Save your walking around Venice for just the sights and shopping.

What could be improved: The bed is a bit soft. There is only one toilet.
