Ca’Ghironda Overview

First Impressions

When I first stepped into Ca’Ghironda, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a three-star place tucked away on Giudecca island. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries come in unassuming packages. This ground-floor property sits right on Fondamenta San Biagio, and there’s something genuinely charming about how it feels more like staying in a Venetian home than a typical hotel. The entrance might not scream “grand hotel,” but that’s actually part of its appeal — it’s authentic Venice without the tourist circus.

The Giudecca Advantage

Here’s what most people don’t realize about staying on Giudecca — you’re literally a five-minute vaporetto ride from San Marco, but it feels like you’ve escaped to a different century. I mean, couples absolutely love this spot (they rate the location 9.4, which honestly makes perfect sense), and I can see why. You wake up to actual Venetians going about their daily lives instead of cruise ship crowds. The waterfront walks here are incredible, especially at sunset when you get those postcard views of the Doge’s Palace across the water. Plus, there’s something romantic about taking that little boat ride back “home” after a day of sightseeing.

The Space Itself

The room I stayed in was comfortable without being fancy — which is exactly what you want from a three-star place that knows what it’s doing. Everything felt clean and well-maintained, and the ground-floor location means you’re not hauling luggage up narrow Venetian stairs (trust me, your back will thank you). The windows open to let in that distinctive Venice atmosphere — you know, the mix of canal air and distant conversations in Italian. It’s not going to win any design awards, but it’s got character and everything you actually need.

Local Life and Logistics

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area — they pointed me toward a little restaurant just a few bridges away that I never would have found otherwise. The vaporetto stop is practically at your doorstep, which makes getting around surprisingly easy. Actually, I found myself using Giudecca as my base and just hopping over to the main islands when I wanted to explore. There’s a small grocery store nearby if you need basics, and honestly, the whole neighborhood has this laid-back vibe that’s pretty rare in Venice these days.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Ca’Ghironda isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s refreshing. You’re paying for a solid, well-located place to sleep in one of the world’s most expensive cities — and it delivers on that promise without any pretense. The location score of 9.5 isn’t just numbers on a website; it’s real guests recognizing that sometimes being slightly off the beaten path is exactly what makes a Venice stay memorable. If you want to experience the city like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through, this little spot on Giudecca gives you that chance.

Reviews of Ca’Ghironda

  • Manisha from Sri Lanka – 1 March 2025 (8/10)

It was a water front property and the staff was very accommodating

What could be improved: Host should be more informative about the airport taxis

  • Tim from Czech Republic – 7 January 2025 (9/10)

Stay here every new year. Perfect location.

What could be improved: Shower head / feed pipe needs changing hence 9 not 10.

  • Damian from United Kingdom – 30 June 2024 (9/10)

Great service and very flexible with their arrangements

What could be improved: Explanation about the location and gardens could have been better – they were a nice surprise

  • Raveesh from India – 26 June 2024 (9/10)

Allowed for early check-in. Proactive in approaching me to make my stay easy, calm, and nice.

What could be improved: The images show that it has a sea view. However, we need to come out of the building to get the view. Its nice anyways.

  • Etienne from South Africa – 25 May 2024 (9/10)

We booked long in advance and the owners kept in contact with us all the time. At date of arrival we were met by a lady who took us to the flat and checked us in. The location is excellent to experience Venice at a fraction of the cost hotels in Venice charge. The view from Guidecca island to the rest of Venice is amazing. It takes only a 5min water taxi to be on St Mark's Square. The absolute bonus is that when you come back later in the afternoon, Guidecca is much quieter than the rest of Venice and you still have perfect views from the bench right opposite the front door. The restaurants on Guidecca were also reasonably priced, with stunning views. This is an AMAZING flat to enjoy your stay in Venice. There is also a supermarket within walking distance.

What could be improved: Everything was perfect!

  • Emmalize from South Africa – 13 May 2024 (8/10)

Washing machine was a plus. Great location.

What could be improved: Smelled like cigarette smoke when we got there

  • Tim from Czech Republic – 3 January 2024 (8/10)

Perfect location. Close to restaurants and vaparetto stop. Quiet.

What could be improved: Perfect for a smaller couple. Larger people will struggle to use the shower cubicle likewise the position of the toilet between the wash basin and washing machine.

  • Merve from Italy – 31 August 2023 (8/10)

staff very friendly and very available, the apartment is very spacious and fully equipped. definitely great value for money and it is ideal for longer stays as well. having a kitchen and a big bedroom really makes you feel at home!

What could be improved: the apartment was a bit too hot and fans weren't enough, and the room is a bit dark.

  • Sarah from Sweden – 15 June 2023 (9/10)

We only stayed there for one night and it was good overall. The apparent situated near the lake so you could have a good time. Everything was clean and the apartment was quite large. Also so many restaurants are nearby and there are some bridges where you can take perfect Instagram photos 😀

What could be improved: Only the fact the laundry machine wasn’t working but it’s not a big deal if you are planing a short trip.

  • Pamela from Italy – 29 May 2023 (9/10)

    quiet location, spacious, perfectly comfortable
