Ca Giardino – Venetian Family Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Calle della Scuola on Giudecca island, you’d almost miss Ca Giardino – Venetian Family if you weren’t looking for it. The entrance is understated in that perfectly Venetian way, but step inside and you immediately feel like you’ve stumbled into someone’s beautifully maintained family home rather than a typical three-star hotel. There’s something refreshingly authentic about the place — no marble lobbies or flashy chandeliers, just genuine Venetian character that feels lived-in and loved.

The Giudecca Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying on Giudecca — you’re technically still in Venice, but it feels like you’ve escaped to a quieter, more residential side of the city. The vaporetto ride across from San Marco takes maybe five minutes, but honestly, those few minutes on the water give you breathing space that you just don’t get when you’re staying right in the thick of things. You can walk to the end of the island in the evening and watch the sunset paint the Doge’s Palace pink across the water. It’s the kind of view that makes you understand why couples rate this area so highly — there’s romance in the relative solitude.

The Rooms and Atmosphere

The rooms at Ca Giardino – Venetian Family aren’t huge (this is Venice, after all), but they’re thoughtfully designed with a mix of traditional Venetian elements and modern comfort. I particularly appreciated the attention to detail — proper blackout curtains that actually work, decent water pressure in the shower, and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a freight train. The family who runs this place clearly understands what travelers actually need. Some rooms have canal views, others look onto the quiet courtyard, but honestly, the neighborhood is so peaceful that you won’t be dealing with the usual Venice noise regardless of which room you get.

Getting Around and Local Life

The vaporetto stop is literally a two-minute walk from the hotel, which means you’re never more than ten minutes from San Marco or fifteen from the train station. What’s nice is that you can pop back to the hotel during the day if you need a break from the crowds — something that’s much harder to do when you’re staying in the heart of the tourist zone. There’s a small grocery store nearby and a couple of local bars where you’ll actually hear Italian being spoken, not just English and German. The island has this village-like quality that makes you feel like you’re experiencing a different side of Venice entirely.

Why Guests Love It

The 9.2 rating really makes sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — just a well-run, family-owned place that delivers exactly what it promises. The location strikes that perfect balance between being accessible and being peaceful, which is honestly pretty rare in Venice. You get the authentic neighborhood feel without sacrificing convenience, and the personal touch from the family who owns it makes all the difference. For couples especially, there’s something special about having your own quiet corner of Venice to retreat to at the end of a day spent navigating the crowds.

Très bon rapport qualité prix. Logement spacieux, propre, confortable.

We would highly recommend Venetian Family. The apartment was clean and well-presented, with comfortable beds. It’s tucked away in a quiet residential area, which suited our needs perfectly. We were met at the Sacca Fiscola water bus stop and checked in by Carlotta, who was also happy to answer our questions about the best/most cost-effective way to travel from the airport. The hosts Matteo and Syria were quick to respond and very helpful when we had to contact them about a couple of issues on our arrival. I would recommend purchasing a Vaporetto (water bus) pass for the duration of your stay as you’ll need to use the Vaporetto to reach the main island from Sacca Fiscola. There are some Trattorias which it’s possible to walk to on the neighbouring Giudecca Island. Overall a great apartment.

What could be improved: A reasonable journey each way to the tourist attractions on the main island.
Some noise could be heard from the apartment, but this didn’t go on until late so didn’t affect being able to sleep.
