Isola di San Servolo – Centro Soggiorno Overview
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about Isola di San Servolo – Centro Soggiorno? It’s literally on its own island. I mean, when I first read the address, I thought it was just some fancy Italian way of naming a street — but no, you actually take a water taxi to get there. The moment you step off the boat onto San Servolo Island, there’s this immediate sense of calm that washes over you. It’s like Venice without the crowds, which honestly feels almost surreal after navigating the packed streets of the main city.
The Island Experience
This three-star property sits on what used to be a monastery island, and you can still feel that peaceful, contemplative atmosphere everywhere. The building itself has this understated charm — not flashy, but there’s something really authentic about it. What I loved most was how couples seemed to gravitate toward this place (apparently they rate the location 9.0, and I totally get why). There’s something romantic about being on your own little island, watching the sun set over the Venetian lagoon without a single tourist pushing past you.
Your Room and Comfort
The accommodations are comfortable in that no-frills, European way — you’re not getting marble bathrooms or Egyptian cotton sheets, but your room is clean, well-maintained, and honestly, who cares about fancy amenities when you can step outside and have an entire island practically to yourself? The views from most rooms look out over the water, and there’s something hypnotic about watching the water taxis and boats drift by. I actually found myself spending more time just sitting by the window than I expected.
Breakfast and Dining
The breakfast spread surprised me — they’ve got this buffet setup with continental options, but they also throw in proper Italian touches that make it feel local rather than generic hotel fare. If you’re vegetarian or need gluten-free options, they’ve actually thought about that too, which isn’t always a given at smaller properties. The dining area has these big windows facing the lagoon, so you’re basically eating breakfast while watching Venice wake up in the distance. It’s one of those simple pleasures that somehow feels more special than it should.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a place you choose for the spa treatments or the concierge service — it’s about the location and the experience of staying somewhere genuinely different. When recent guests rate the location 9.0, they’re not just talking about proximity to attractions (though you’re only a short boat ride from St. Mark’s Square). They’re talking about having found this peaceful retreat where you can actually hear yourself think. After a day of fighting crowds at the Doge’s Palace or getting lost in the maze of Venetian streets, coming back to your own quiet island feels like a small miracle. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even though it’s been there all along.
Locals suggest to book apartments in Venice around Cannaregio for artisan glass studios and uncrowded canals.

The place was very lovely and romantic. It was calm and beautiful. The personnel helped us with everything also, thank you. And Thank you
What could be improved: The bathroom wasn’t perfect and walls are little bit scratched but we did not mind, everything around was just amazing.Paul from United Kingdom – 25 September 2024 (8/10)
The room was clean, excellent lift since my wife is disabled, the food excellent the only downer was using long life milk in the coffee machines, made the coffee undrinkable,
What could be improved: The coffee machine and the drinks machine that robbed of E1. They could offer shampoo for the rooms, and proper soap bars.Suzanne from United Kingdom – 23 September 2024 (9/10)
Ideally situated just 10 mins off San Zaccaria water stop close to St Marks Square. Lovely island setting and lots of history busier than expected but not invasive a true hidden gem
What could be improved: The single bed was quite small but for a solo traveller it was suitable.Carrie from China – 5 September 2024 (9/10)
This tiny island, just 2 km from Venice's city center, offers a unique and peaceful escape. It's connected by the No. 20 ferry line, which runs only two ferries per hour, making it feel even more secluded.
The island has just one hotel, one campus, one small museum, one restaurant, and one café—all of which share spaces in a charming and quirky way. One moment, you're walking through the hotel, and the next, you find yourself on campus, which adds a fun and unexpected twist to the experience.
What could be improved: The room was comfortable, though the bed and shower were on the smaller side. The island is lush with plants, which adds to its beauty, but also attracts quite a few insects, so beware of the mosquitos—they were relentless during my stay.Marc from United Kingdom – 21 August 2024 (9/10)
Incredible location – easy access to the mainland and insanely quiet on an evening. Very quaint.
Arij from Portugal – 12 August 2024 (8/10)
The whole vibe is a bit surreal being isolated on an island at night but in the best way possible. The premises are really cool, gorgeous views everywhere, very calm. Spacious room and bathroom, great breakfast with vegan options. Great value for money
What could be improved: There is a Tea kettle but no mugs in the room.
The water pressure is too weak, and the water is cold, in the August heat it was not a problem for me but it shouldn’t be that way.Samira from Italy – 28 July 2024 (7/10)
The toilet was so spacious, and all the sheets were clean. The breakfast was also really good. The staff were also so friendly and could guide us in English.
What could be improved: There were some dead insects on the desk like a mosquito and a butterfly.
There were a couple of spiders in the room and toilet.
Also the fridge was really small and was not working properly.Sharon from New Zealand – 10 July 2024 (9/10)
It’s a quiet, beautiful oasis so close to the city. Stylish interiors, great breakfasts
Edward from Ireland – 8 July 2024 (7/10)
Island location gardens and breakfast were all amazing.Fantastic shower!
What could be improved: Rooms are dated and need some TLC air con and TV didn't work but the location is world class!Eva from Czech Republic – 11 September 2022 (8/10)
Amazing location, great breakfast.
