Oh man, stepping into CA GRIMANI in Dorsoduro – you know, that artsy neighborhood tucked away from the San Marco madness – felt like stumbling into a hidden gem right off the bat. I arrived via vaporetto from the train station, hopping off at Ca’ Rezzonico, and it was just a short wander along Fondamenta Sangiantoffetti, dodging the occasional delivery cart (no cars in Venice, remember?). The building itself is this classic Venetian palazzo, all weathered brick and arched windows overlooking the Rio San Vio canal – honestly, the views hit you first thing. My room had this massive window framing gondolas gliding by at dusk, with that salty lagoon scent drifting in when you crack it open. It’s not some flashy spot, but the comfort level? Spot on for a 4-star – plush beds that actually let you sleep through the night, even if the walls are a bit thin and you catch snippets of Italian chatter from neighbors (charming, mostly, unless you’re a light sleeper).

What really sold me, though, was how it blends old-school Venice with stuff that makes travel easier. The rooms are sort of compact – I mean, it’s a historic building, so expect some quirky layouts and maybe a step or two up to the bathroom – but they’ve got these modern touches like rain showers that feel luxurious after a day pounding the pavements. Breakfast was a highlight: fresh cornetti and cappuccino served in a cozy courtyard, with birds chirping away (avoid peak summer if you hate the humidity, though; it gets sticky by mid-morning). And location-wise, you’re steps from the Zattere promenade – perfect for sunset strolls along the Giudecca Canal, or popping into the Peggy Guggenheim Collection for some modern art vibes without the tourist hordes. I wandered over to Campo Santa Margherita one evening, grabbed a spritz at a local bar, and it felt like real Venice life, you know? Not that fake postcard stuff. Check-in was a breeze too – the staff spoke great English, handed over a map with insider tips like avoiding the overpriced gondola rides nearby and hitting the Squero di San Trovaso boat yard instead for a free peek at traditional craftsmanship.

All in all, if you’re after that authentic Venetian escape without breaking the bank or your sanity in the crowds, CA GRIMANI’s your spot. It’s got an 8.6 rating for a reason – solid value, stunning canal views that make mornings magical, and just enough comfort to recharge. Sure, it could use a few more power outlets (pack an adapter), but honestly, who cares when you’re waking up to church bells and boat horns? I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when Dorsoduro feels like your own private slice of the city.

  We loved everything about it… the location was perfect, the flat was very comfortable, the bed, sofas, perfectly stocked kitchen and sumptuous bathroom. The triple aspect views were astonishing and very romantic. The neighbourhood is perfect and walking along the Zattere is a wonderful ‘seaside’ aspect to Venice alongside the world class sightseeing. The apartment building feels safe, neighbourly and exquisite. There are amazing bars and restaurants within a five minute walk. We very much hope to return. Plus attentive and five star hosting/check in. 👍👍

  Spacious apartment with grand furnishings – great retreat from the crowds in Venice. A thrill every morning to open the shutters and view a beautiful canal setting. Air conditioning worked well; bed and sofa were comfy. Apartment Host uses a neighborhood group to deliver keys, which was a phenomenal service. Helped us navigate the most direct transportation from water taxi to the apartment and then storage of luggage/return to airport (minimizing bridges), plus fantastic restaurant recommendations for lunch and dinner. Our arrival was impacted by a train strike and the person meeting us to deliver keys adjusted our meet-up appt several times without complaint & also responded promptly during our stay to questions on restaurants. Appreciated the elevator to get to the top floor of the building where apartment was located.
  
  What could be improved: Bathroom was not air conditioned – and it was very hot (July). Window could be opened but we didn't want to leave it open due to mosquitos. (Bedroom & living room had separate air-conditioners.) No hot tub, just a spa tub in the bathroom which we could not get to work. Needed to carry a set of keys to gain entry to the building and to the apartment. An impressive coffee machine tantalized us, but no coffee pods provided, so we could not use it.

  Beautiful apartment in a beautiful place! The apartment has a nice living room (comfortable couch), a desk for work, a small dining table, a well equipped kitchen, washing machine, and a shower and jacuzzi tub — all as promised.

  Spacious. Comfortable large bed. Wonderful views over side canal of Grand Canal. Well equipped. Excellent location close to Academia bridge and Grand Canal, Giudecca Canal. St Marks Square and interesting areas in Dorsoduro within walking distance.

  Very nice, spacious apartment. Very clean. The location was very convenient. Easy access to Vaporetto. Off the tourist track. Still, 15-20 minute walk to major attractions. There are many nice places to eat and drink mostly frequented by locals and students.
  
  What could be improved: It was a bit noisy early in the morning. Since the apartment overlooks a nice canal, boats passing by and garbage collection started to make quite a bit of noise early in the morning. But it is not a big deal. You get used to it. After all, it is a tradeoff when you have a nice spacious apartment full of light with a canal view.
  
  It would be nice if slippers for the bathroom were provided as in many hotels.
