Hotel Description
You know, the first time I stumbled into Ca’ Marco Apartment, I was dragging my suitcase over those uneven cobblestones in Cannaregio, and honestly, it felt like I’d finally escaped the tourist crush around San Marco. It’s tucked away on Calle Maggioni – this narrow little alley that’s more residential than flashy, right off the Strada Nova where locals grab their morning espresso and fresh bread from those tiny bakeries that smell like heaven (or at least like warm focaccia). I mean, Venice can be overwhelming with all the gondolas and crowds, but Cannaregio? It’s got that authentic vibe – think quiet canals where you hear the occasional splash of an oar rather than constant chatter. The place itself is in one of those classic Venetian buildings, all exposed beams and terracotta floors that creak just a bit underfoot, which sort of adds to the charm, you know? I arrived in the late afternoon during shoulder season – early October, when the summer hordes have thinned out but the light’s still golden – and the host met me right at the door with a quick rundown in broken English, no fuss, just handed over the keys and pointed out the nearest vaporetto stop at Ca’ d’Oro, which is like a five-minute walk if you’re not lugging too much gear.
What really won me over, though, was how it felt like a proper home base rather than some sterile hotel room. It’s rated as a 4-star apartment, and yeah, the 8.7 score checks out – spacious enough for a couple or small family, with a little kitchenette where I whipped up pasta from ingredients I picked up at the Rialto Market (pro tip: go early to avoid the fishmongers’ rush and that briny canal whiff that hits around noon). The bedroom overlooks a side canal, so you get these soft water sounds at night – lapping waves and maybe a distant boat horn – but it’s surprisingly quiet for Venice; no blaring tour groups below like you’d get near the Grand Canal. Well, there is a bit of street noise if you’re a light sleeper, especially on weekends when folks spill out from the nearby osterias on Fondamenta della Misericordia, but earplugs sorted that out for me. The decor’s this mix of modern and old-school – think sleek bathroom fixtures but with those heavy wooden shutters that block out the morning sun perfectly. Oh, and no elevator, so pack light if you’re on an upper floor; I learned that the hard way hauling my bag up two flights. Still, the Wi-Fi’s solid for planning day trips, and there’s even a washer-dryer combo, which saved me after a rainy walk to the Jewish Ghetto – that’s just a stone’s throw away, by the way, with its hidden synagogues and kosher spots that feel worlds apart from the piazza chaos.
All in all, if you’re after that immersive Venice experience without the sky-high prices of the fancier districts, Ca’ Marco’s a gem. It’s not perfect – the air con can be a tad finicky in peak summer heat – but it lets you live like a local, wandering back from a sunset stroll along the lagoon with gelato in hand, feeling like you’ve got your own slice of the city. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the fog rolls in and everything gets that misty, magical edge. Trust me, it’s the kind of spot that makes you rethink those big-chain hotels altogether.

The apartment was perfect for us. There was so much space, two bathrooms, air conditioning, a coffee machine, and it was spotless. The person we booked with was very helpful and gave us great recommendations of what to do and where to go in Venice.

Very spacious and comfortable, great air con and every facility you could need. Great location near a lovely square with great bars and cafes. Lovely hosts, even provided a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate my birthday. Would definitely stay again.
What could be improved: Pretty perfect, only one minor complaint was that the upstairs neighbour was a bit heavy footed!David from United Kingdom – 8 July 2024 (8/10)
location superb, clean, nothing needed once arrived as all available.
What could be improved: there was a slight musky smell which i assume due to humidity as it was extremely humid during our stay, but this didn't change our opinion of the facility, superbDelac from Australia – 31 May 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: A little bit dark because it is at ground level and streets are very narrowIan from United Kingdom – 17 March 2024 (9/10)

Excellent Location
What could be improved: Carrying lugguage from the VaporettaGregory from United States – 30 July 2023 (9/10)
Apartment is exactly as pictured. Very clean and conveniently centrally located once you find it, and get knowledgeable about your location and the area.
What could be improved: It was very difficult to find the location of the apartment without having having Google Maps etc. Although, the location is very central it is very difficult to locate without knowing to follow posted directions ( ex arrows pointing towards Rialto or F.te Nove ) Luckily, someone saw I was lost and confused and ( fairly elderly) with large luggage and guided me to the location.
