Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Ca’ Morosini 1 & 2 almost by accident during my last trip to Venice – well, not really by accident, but you know how it is when you’re weaving through those narrow calli in San Marco, trying not to get lost in the maze between the Rialto and Piazza San Marco. It’s tucked away on San Marco 3465, right in the heart of the sestiere, just a stone’s throw from Campo Santo Stefano, which is one of those lively squares where locals grab their morning espresso and tourists don’t overwhelm everything (yet). I arrived via vaporetto from Santa Lucia station – honestly, if you’re hauling luggage, skip the water taxi splurge and just walk the 15 minutes from the Rialto stop; the alleys are charming, with that faint salty canal smell mixing with fresh bread from the nearby panifici. The building itself is this classic Venetian palazzo split into two sections – 1 and 2 – and it feels like stepping into someone’s old family home, all creaky wooden beams and faded frescoes on the walls. Check-in was a breeze; the staff, these warm Italian folks who speak perfect English (and a bit of Venetian dialect if you ask), handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the best gelato spot around the corner – Gelateria Nico, actually, though it’s a bit of a trek over to Dorsoduro if you’re feeling adventurous.

What really sold me on the place was how it balances that old-world charm with just enough modern comforts without feeling gimmicky. The rooms – I stayed in one of the doubles in section 2 – aren’t huge, I mean, this is Venice, space is at a premium, but they’ve got these high ceilings and big windows that let in the afternoon light bouncing off the canal below. You can hear the occasional gondola oars splashing or church bells from San Marco ringing out, which is magical at dawn but might wake light sleepers (earplugs helped me, honestly). The beds are comfy, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender soap, and the bathrooms are spotless, though the showers are on the snug side – fine for a quick rinse after a day of dodging crowds. No parking to worry about, obviously, since cars are a myth here, but they can arrange boat transfers if you need. Breakfast is simple – croissants, fresh fruit, and decent coffee served in a cozy communal area – nothing extravagant, but it beats the overpriced cafes on the square. Oh, and there’s free Wi-Fi that actually works, which is a godsend for checking ferry times or booking tickets to the Doge’s Palace, just a five-minute stroll away. One minor gripe: the air conditioning can be finicky in peak summer heat, sort of humming like an old fan, but hey, it’s a 3-star spot with an 8.6 rating for a reason – authentic without the frills.

Look, if you’re heading to Venice and want to feel like you’re living the local life rather than just visiting, Ca’ Morosini is a solid pick. It’s not the ritzy five-star overlooking the Grand Canal – those can feel a bit sterile, you know? – but it’s got heart, and at that price point, especially off-season when the crowds thin out around November, it’s a steal. You’ll wake up to the sounds of the city stirring, grab a spritz at a bacaro on nearby Calle della Mandola, and be back in your room before the evening bustle kicks in. I’ve recommended it to friends who aren’t into the tourist traps, and they’ve all come back raving – just pack light and embrace the walkable vibe. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay.

Reviews

  • Jose from Peru – 14 August 2024 (9/10)

Beautiful room, it was like a dream come true. The room, the decor, the Italian Venitian style was everywhere. We loved our room, cold Air conditioning and large room with incredible views to a large open plaza as we had a corner unit. The host Raffaella was very nice and attentive .

What could be improved: Taking the water bus from the train station was costly, crowded, too slow, way too hot(no fans or Ac) and unnecessary. I would have preferred to walk to the hotel, rather then take that water bus for €9 each way per person. Total of €36 for two people. Of course that's not the hotels fault, but optional instrucciones on how to get there without the use of the water bus would have been very welcomed, as we only had carry on luggage and would have preferred to walk there🙂

  • Silviu-viorel from Romania – 9 March 2025 (8/10)

Clean bed sheets, clean room, clean toilet. The location is ideal next to the city center and even has a small bar next to it wich serves morning foods like sandwitches, paninis and pastry. If you are traveling there by plane and decide to take the waterbus then it will take 1,5 h to get to san marco so consider the water taxi if you are with a group.

What could be improved: The mattress smelled weird and the baby bed sadly didn't have a working zipper to secure it for the night.

  • Amanda from United Kingdom – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

Location is fantastic in the square with bars and restaurants to enjoy, church is beautiful right next door and a wonderful bakery just downstairs! Short walk only to San Marco and San Angelo vaperetto stop. It’s clean and our room was beautifully decorated with everything we needed. Highly recommended it here we loved it!

  • Vladislav from Latvia – 29 January 2025 (9/10)

I was staying in a room with a city view on the top floor. It had a lot of free space, something like 30-35 sqm. The view from the balcony was just perfect. It was one of the best hotel rooms, or most likely apartments, I’ve ever stayed in during my life (I’ve traveled a lot).
The atmosphere in the building outside of the room in the common area is just a magic.
Located in the heart of Venice, right in the center.

What could be improved: In such a large room, I would say an apartment, it would be good to have a kettle. However, you can find it on the 2nd and 3rd floors, so it’s not a big issue, but still a point for improvement. Also, the TV is in very bad condition.

  • Lorenzo from Italy – 12 January 2025 (9/10)

    Great location with historical buildings
