Hotel Description

You know, when I first stumbled upon Ca’ Ormesini Lovely Apartment, tucked away on Calle dei Ormesini in Venice’s Cannaregio neighborhood, I was honestly relieved to escape the mad crush around San Marco. It’s not one of those glossy hotels that scream “tourist trap” – more like a cozy, lived-in spot that feels like borrowing a friend’s place for a few days. I arrived in the late afternoon, after weaving through the narrow alleys from the train station (pro tip: if you’re lugging bags, grab a vaporetto to Fondamente Nove and walk the last bit – it’s only about 10 minutes, and you’ll pass that little bakery on Strada Nova where the air smells like fresh cornetti). Check-in was a breeze; the host met me right at the door with keys and a quick rundown – no stuffy lobby, just a warm hello and some tips on where to grab cicchetti nearby. The place is rated an 8.3 for good reason – it’s got that 4-star polish without trying too hard, you know?

What really won me over was how it captures that authentic Venetian vibe. The apartment’s on the first floor (well, second if you’re counting like Americans do), with these tall windows overlooking the calle – mornings, you’d hear the soft lap of canal water from Rio di San Girolamo just around the corner, and honestly, it beats any alarm clock. Inside, it’s got this charming mix of old and new: exposed beams on the ceiling that creak a bit when the wind picks up, a kitchenette stocked with basics (I whipped up pasta one night using stuff from the market on Rio Terà San Leonardo – super fresh, and way cheaper than eating out every Sex and the City-style). The bed’s comfy, though – firm but not rock-hard – and there’s a little balcony where you can sip espresso and watch locals chatting below. Mind you, Cannaregio gets lively in the evenings, especially along Fondamenta Ormesini with its bars spilling out onto the pavement; it can get noisy till around midnight, particularly in summer when everyone’s out enjoying aperitivi. If you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs – but hey, that’s part of the charm, right? I mean, you’re in Venice, not some sterile suburb. The bathroom’s modern, with a rain shower that actually has decent pressure (a rarity in these old buildings), and the Wi-Fi held up for streaming, though it dipped a bit during peak hours.

All in all, if you’re after a slice of real Venice – away from the selfie sticks but close enough to hop on a boat to the islands – this place is a gem. It’s perfect for couples or small families who want space to spread out (sleeps up to four, I think), and at that rating, it’s solid value without the inflated prices of the Grand Canal spots. I left feeling like I’d actually lived there a little, not just visited – wandering to the Jewish Ghetto for history in the morning, then back for a quiet siesta. Venice can be overwhelming, but staying here? It grounds you, makes the magic feel personal. Just watch out for high water in autumn; the calle floods a tad, but that’s Venice for you – pack those rubber boots if you’re coming then.

Reviews

  • Aidar from Kazakhstan – 12 June 2024 (8/10)

It was the coolest place we have ever stayed. The location was great, next to a large supermarket in the form of a theater (a separate art form), as well as several restaurants right on the same street. It is a 10-minute walk from the train station. The host allowed us to leave our luggage after the check-out so that we could take a walk before our departure from Venice. Thanks for the good impressions!

  • Bruna from Canada – 2 October 2024 (9/10)

Location was excellent, close to restaurant, shops but quiet. Large bedrooms, nice kitchen, living space.

What could be improved: No complaints

  • Claire from United Kingdom – 25 April 2024 (9/10)

Great location, comfortable beds, very clean.
Close to small local shops, supermarkets and an array of cafes/restaurants.
On ground level after a couple of steps at the entrance.

What could be improved: It was very difficult to find as no where did it say Lovely Apartment and none of the local people knew the name of the accommodation. We were given a property number (1506) but not the g. There are many properties that have 1506 on them. It took us 2 hours in the rain to find it when we were given the g and a description of the door colour in a message.
No cork screw or bottle opener. No tea towel but otherwise quite well equipped.
The clothes rail in one wardrobe is built for people over 6foot 6 inches. No way we could reach it. So some minor irretations but overall very comfortable .

  • Kone from Canada – 31 July 2023 (8/10)

The property was clean and the host as well. Good location.

What could be improved: No welcoming beverages in the fridge
An odor of sewage in the apartment
    The AC misplaced
Very hard to open the door

  • Jennifer from United Kingdom – 6 July 2023 (9/10)

It is a lovely modern apartment with all the facilities and comforts that we needed for our stay. Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, good sized rooms, and excellent location.

  • Kian from Malaysia – 6 June 2023 (9/10)

easy access on the ground floor

What could be improved: take some effort to locate the apartment

  • Dan from Romania – 16 November 2022 (9/10)

Easy check-in and access either by code or link.
Great location with a lot of restaurants just near
Big rooms and living room, fully equiped kitchen

What could be improved: The radiator in one room was broken and the respectve room could not be heated. Probably something that the host will resolve quickly. A good thing that a sleeping option was also in the livingroom.

  • Hynek from Czech Republic – 4 July 2022 (8/10)

location was perfect, appartment is big and clean

What could be improved: little bit complicated entry – app didn’t work for us and we couldn’t get A/C to work

  • Roel from Netherlands – 12 May 2022 (9/10)

    no breakfast in this apartment

  • Aikaterini from Greece – 30 April 2022 (9/10)

The location was very good next to a canal full of bars, an area not so touristic. The appartment was so clean and comfortable, full of facilities.

What could be improved: The smell of the bathroom, but that maybe has to do with Venice in general. There should also be provided hand soap.
