Ca Palazzo Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Ca Palazzo, you immediately sense you’re stepping into something special — though not in the flashy, over-the-top way you might expect. This three-star gem sits tucked away on Calle degli Albanesi in Castello, and honestly, the entrance has that understated Venetian elegance that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a local secret. The building itself whispers history rather than shouting it, which I actually prefer in a city where every corner seems to compete for your attention.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what really gets me about Ca Palazzo — the location is absolutely unbeatable. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Venice with a location score of 9.6, and couples especially seem to get this (they rate it 8.4 for romantic getaways). You can walk to San Marco in about ten minutes, but you’re far enough from the main tourist crush to actually breathe. The Castello district has this authentic neighborhood feel where you’ll spot locals doing their daily shopping, and there are some fantastic bacari (wine bars) within a few blocks that most tourists never find.
The Rooms
The rooms at Ca Palazzo strike that perfect balance between Venetian character and modern comfort. You know what I love? They haven’t tried to strip away all the historical details in favor of generic hotel décor. The ceilings have those beautiful exposed beams, and many rooms feature original terrazzo floors that have probably seen centuries of Venice’s story unfold. Sure, it’s a three-star property, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or designer furnishings — but everything is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully arranged.
Daily Life at the Hotel
What strikes me most about staying here is how the staff genuinely seems to care about your Venice experience. They’re not just handing you a city map and wishing you luck — they’ll actually tell you which vaporetto stops to avoid during rush hour or where to find the best cicchetti after 6 PM. The breakfast setup is simple but solid, with fresh pastries from a local bakery and proper Italian coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around for hours. There’s also a small courtyard where you can escape the crowds for a few minutes, which becomes incredibly valuable after a day of navigating Venice’s packed streets.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, Ca Palazzo works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. You’re getting excellent value in an unbeatable location without paying five-star prices for amenities you probably won’t use anyway. The combination of that perfect Castello position — close enough to everything but far enough from the chaos — plus the genuine Venetian atmosphere makes this place feel like a real find. I think that’s why the ratings consistently hover around 7.9; it’s not trying to wow you with over-the-top upscale, but it delivers exactly what most travelers actually want from a Venice stay.

Reviews of Ca Palazzo

Good location, very friendly and helpful staff.

The location is fantastic. The apartment is directly behind the Doge's Palace; you couldn't be more central. For anyone with a love of Venetian history, the view is brilliant. Through the windows on one side of the apartment you can see the back wall of the Doge's Palace, and the Prisons, as well. Through windows on another side you can see the church of San Zaccaria. And from still others you can see what I believe is the church of San Zanipolo on the skyline.
Guido, the site manager, is extremely helpful. He met me at the vaporetto stop, when I first arrived. He communicates with guests clearly and well. I had problems with the washing machine, and he came over, and stayed until it was mended.
The vaporetto stop at San Zaccaria is very close: perhaps only a hundred metres away. At the other end of the street, you'll find quite a few typical Venetian restaurants. It is an easy walk to the Rialto.
The fly screens on the windows of the apartment are very effective. Although I visited in high summer, I had no problems with mosquitoes, for which I was very grateful.
What could be improved: There was nothing I didn't like about the apartment, to be frank. However, there is a cost for the excellent views it affords. You have to climb five flights of stairs to get to it. If you are elderly or infirm, or have very small children, this might be a bridge too far. The effort though is well worth it.
(Note: the weather being hot during my stay, I ate cold meat and salads exclusively. I didn't do any cooking. The kitchen seemed to me to have plenty to work with; but I don't want to swear to this, not having given it a real workout.)Veronika from United Kingdom – 12 June 2024 (7/10)
Fantastic location just behind St Mark’s Square wiith rooftop views of St Marco, which was very convenient.
What could be improved: The flat is quite dated, but well equipped. Bedroom 2 is very small.
It was quite expensive as had to pay additional fees per person after paying for the apartment.Karen from United Kingdom – 22 April 2024 (9/10)
Location and top floor. Light apartment
Really helpful hosts.
Massino helpful with information prior to arrival and Guido met us off water bus. He was very helpful with showing us around the apartment and giving us local information. Thank you.
What could be improved: 6 flights of stairs hard on knees. Fine for us but difficult if you have any mobility issues or pain.
Need mosquito netting in small bedroom.Kate from Australia – 30 December 2023 (8/10)
The location was great, walking distance to everything.
What could be improved: The sloping floor! But I imagine this might be typical for Venice apartments.
The stairs were tiny with big luggage, so definitely consider this if you have a family all with large luggage. Again though, may be typical for Venice.Lori from United States – 8 July 2023 (9/10)
Great location. Air conditioning and two bedrooms were great. Nice to have a washer and dryer.
What could be improved: 6 flights of stairs to climb!Moni from Singapore – 31 May 2023 (8/10)
Very good location ( beside Saint Mark’s Basilica).
Fully furnished with kitchen, washing machine, dryer, etc.
What could be improved: It is on level 7th (top floor).
Do travel light if you choose to stay here. 😊Michael from United States – 22 May 2023 (9/10)
Location was very convenient for acces to all the major tourist attractions – 5 mins walk to Piazza San Marco and water taxis
What could be improved: 7 sets of stairs to get to the apartment. Very difficult if you have lots of luggage or someone with a disability.Arzu from Turkey – 22 September 2022 (8/10)
Everything was very good except the floor. the location was excelent, the flat was very clean. But the apartment was on the top floor and there was no elevator.
Cristiana from Brazil – 16 September 2022 (9/10)
the location is perfect! right at Piazza San Marco in a quiet and narrow street… From the windows we can see the Doge Palace and the ceilings of Venice. The main vaporetto stops are just few minutes walk.
What could be improved: the apartment is at the 7th without elevator. It can be difficult for people with some dislocation problems…
