Ca’ San Vio Overview
First Impressions
Walking down the narrow Calle Delle Mende in Dorsoduro, you might almost miss Ca’ San Vio — and that’s actually part of its charm. This three-star boutique hotel feels more like discovering a well-kept local secret than checking into a tourist accommodation. The entrance is understated in that distinctly Venetian way, where the real magic happens once you step inside. I mean, you’re literally staying in a converted Venetian palace, which honestly never gets old no matter how many times you visit Venice.
The Dorsoduro Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re in Dorsoduro, which locals will tell you is the most authentic sestiere left in Venice. While everyone else is fighting crowds around San Marco, you’ll be wandering quiet campos and discovering neighborhood bacari that don’t even have signs. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is practically next door, and you can reach the Accademia Bridge in about five minutes on foot. Couples especially seem to get this — they consistently rate the location over 9 out of 10, and I totally understand why.
Your Room and the Details
The rooms at Ca’ San Vio aren’t huge — this is Venice, after all, where space is more precious than gold. But what they lack in size, they make up for in character. Each room feels different, with original beamed ceilings and windows that actually open (you know what a treat that is in many hotels these days). Some overlook the canal, others face the quiet courtyard, but honestly, you’ll be out exploring most of the time anyway. The beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms are modern without feeling out of place in the historic setting.
Morning Rituals
Breakfast here is properly Italian — which means excellent coffee, fresh pastries, and none of that international buffet nonsense that you’ll find at the big chain hotels. They serve it in a charming little room that feels like someone’s elegant dining room, because well, it probably was at some point. The staff actually remembers how you like your cappuccino after the first morning, which is one of those small touches that makes a difference. You can also grab your coffee and sit outside if the weather’s nice — there’s something magical about starting your day with an espresso while watching Venice wake up.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Ca’ San Vio apart is that it feels authentically Venetian without trying too hard. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or fancy amenities you don’t need — you’re paying for location, character, and that sense of actually living in Venice for a few days. The staff treats you more like a temporary neighbor than a tourist, and they’re genuinely helpful with recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. For couples looking for a romantic base that’s not overrun with tour groups, this place hits the sweet spot between charm and comfort.
Hotels near me in Venice offer water taxi moorings, Basilica queues, and gondola lessons steps away.

Ca 'San Vio, is a lovely clean property in an excellent location. The owner, is very helpful all the time. He recommended me nice places to visit such as Cafe, pubs and sights that it's worth to visit.
He answered all my questions, very quickly and reliably.

Quaint little Typically Venetian hotel which was ideally located with a very friendly host and staff. Very clean with everything you require…. Air conditioning, good Internet connection, and a free breakfast.

Danny from United Kingdom – 28 August 2024 (8/10)
The property was in a great location in the centre of Venice. The beds were comfortable and the host was very friendly and made everything easy for us
What could be improved: The air conditioning wasn’t the best and the WiFi would cut out sometimesVita from Lithuania – 15 May 2024 (7/10)
It was clean and nice staff, quiet location.
What could be improved: It was totally different what you can see in the photos. Room was really small, dark and not cosy at all. Private bathroom was on totally different room, we need to go outside from the room, go across to the hall to reach our “private bathroom”. Really bad isolation, we could hear then toilet was flushed to other hosts. Breakfast was ridiculous, because it was coffee and bread with some jam.Agnes from United Kingdom – 7 May 2024 (9/10)
