First Impressions

Walking through the narrow Calle dei Orbi in San Marco, you might almost miss Ca’ Sansovino if you’re not paying attention — and that’s actually part of its charm. This three-star boutique hotel sits tucked away in one of those quintessentially Venetian alleyways where the tourist crowds thin out just enough to let you breathe. The entrance feels authentically Venetian rather than flashy, which I honestly prefer when I’m trying to experience the real Venice rather than some sanitized version of it.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what you need to know about the location — it’s ridiculously central without being right in the chaos of St. Mark’s Square. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the Basilica, but you’re on a side street that locals actually use to get around. I mean, you can pop out for morning coffee at one of the neighborhood bars where Venetians grab their espresso, then be at the Doge’s Palace before the tour groups really get going. The Rialto Bridge is maybe a seven-minute walk through some of the most photogenic streets in the city, and you’ll pass at least three excellent bacari (those little wine bars Venice does so well) on the way.

The Rooms

The rooms at Ca’ Sansovino feel properly Venetian — we’re talking exposed beams, traditional furnishings, and those wonderfully imperfect proportions that come with staying in a centuries-old building. Don’t expect huge spaces (this is Venice, after all), but everything feels thoughtfully designed to make the most of what’s available. The bathrooms are modern enough to be functional, and honestly, when you’re spending most of your time wandering the city, you just need a comfortable bed and good water pressure — both of which you’ll find here.

The Venice Experience

What I love about staying here is how it puts you right into the rhythm of Venetian life. You’ll hear the morning delivery boats navigating the nearby canals, and in the evening, you can follow the sound of conversation to find locals gathering for their aperitivo. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — they’ll point you toward the bakery that makes the best tramezzini or tell you which route to take to avoid the worst of the crowds when you’re heading to the train station. It’s that kind of insider knowledge that makes a difference when you’re trying to experience Venice like something more than just a tourist destination.

Why Guests Love It

Couples particularly seem to connect with this place, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about staying somewhere that feels authentically Venetian rather than like a generic hotel that happens to be in Venice. The combination of that perfect location (seriously, that 9.3 location score isn’t just marketing speak) and the intimate scale creates exactly the kind of experience you want when you’re exploring one of the world’s most unique cities. You’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from the main tourist thoroughfares that you can actually relax when you come back in the evening.

  The location was excellent. Central but quiet at night. Surprisingly spacious, good aircon, very comfy bed.
  Matteo who handed us the key was excellent. Didn’t spend much time actually in the apartment but it was perfect for a long weekend.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing! Fabulous!
  Tip though…take mosquito repellent as there are a lot of them about in Venice!

  Excellent location, just 5 minutes walk from the S. Samuele water taxi stop. There were lots of small boutiques and places to shop nearby. Restaurants and coffee shops were within walking distance. The house has air conditioning which was a huge comfort in hot Venice weather. The house was of good size, sufficient for a family of 4 people. The sofa bed was comfortable. Clean bed linen, towels, hand towels were provided. Soap, shampoo, body lotion was there. Matteo was quite helpful, he responded promptly and recommended good places to eat nearby.I would recommend this property.
  
  What could be improved: Addition of utensils in the kitchen and coffee, tea, sugar, salt could improve the experience.

  Air conditioner is life saving in July. Matteo is great host. He reacted immediately when we had prob;em with electricity, because too many appliences were on the same time at +40 outside. Working zone with desk in master bedroom is very convenient for working remotely.

  It was very close to every sightseeing destination, the host was so helpful and polite, even helped us to get there via navigation of the waterbus! The apartment was very big, had a working kitchen, a clean bathroom and 24/7 customer support. When asked, they immediately changed the bedding.
  
  What could be improved: It was a bit dirty, there was a lot of dust and debris, we even found a lost earing under one of the beds. Overall only the floor was dirty.

  newly decorated clean apartment , 5 min. walk to vaporetto and 15min. walk to the center . staff was very positive and helpful special thanks to them!
  
  What could be improved: no elevator as most of the apartments in the city. kettle was broken need to change with new one. too much mosqiutos in the room and bite our children badly unfortunately:(

  Fabulous apartment we loved staying here. Nice and quiet and air con was fab esp during the heat! Everything you needed to hand. Mario was fab.

  A very clean , spacious apartment on an atmospheric tiny street near the Campo San Stefano and Academia bridge. A lovely retreat at the end of a day's sightseeing!
  Matteo , who welcomed us ,gave us a few good pointers about local attractions .
  
  What could be improved: Only small issue was that washing up liquid ( even a small measure ) or washing machine capsules ( two or three) weren't provided. Shower gel, shampoo and body lotion were provided , so why not a few capsules ??
