Campo Do Pozzi Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Castello to find Campo Do Pozzi feels like discovering a hidden gem that most tourists completely miss. This three-star hotel sits tucked away on Calle de la Comare, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it so special. You’re not fighting crowds here — instead, you get this authentic neighborhood vibe where locals actually live and work. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm you see in postcards, but without the tourist circus that surrounds most hotels in Venice.

The Castello Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying in this part of Venice — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from San Marco to actually breathe. The Castello district feels real, you know? You’ll walk past actual Venetians heading to work, not just other tourists taking selfies. From Campo Do Pozzi, it’s maybe a 15-minute stroll to the Doge’s Palace, but you can also wander in the opposite direction toward the Arsenale and find some incredible little bacari (wine bars) that serve the best cicchetti in the city. The location score of 9.5 isn’t just numbers — couples especially seem to get it, rating the spot 9.8 for romantic getaways.

Your Room and Comfort

The rooms here are what you’d expect from a solid three-star place — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged without any unnecessary frills. Each room has that classic Venetian feel with exposed beams or traditional furnishings, though don’t expect palace-level elegance. What I really appreciate is how quiet it gets at night. Since you’re off the main tourist routes, you won’t hear groups stumbling back from late dinners or water taxis rumbling past at dawn. The bathrooms are compact but functional — pretty standard for Venice, where space is always at a premium.

Exploring the Neighborhood

One thing that surprised me was how easy it is to find great food around here without paying tourist prices. There’s this little restaurant just a few bridges away where locals actually eat lunch — you’ll know you’ve found the right places when you hear more Italian than English. The morning walk to grab coffee becomes part of the experience too. You’ll pass workshops where artisans are still making traditional Venetian masks and glasswork, not the mass-produced stuff you see near the Rialto. It’s these small discoveries that make staying in Castello feel more like living in Venice temporarily rather than just visiting it.

Why Guests Love It

Campo Do Pozzi works because it strikes this perfect balance between accessibility and authenticity. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting something arguably more valuable — a genuine Venice experience. The 8.3 rating reflects what most guests figure out pretty quickly: this isn’t about marble lobbies or concierge services, it’s about waking up in a real Venetian neighborhood where you can actually imagine what daily life might be like. Plus, when you do want to hit the major sights, everything’s still walkable. You just get to return each evening to a corner of Venice that feels like your own little secret.

Property is in a great location of Venice. Only a 10 minute walk to st marks. Local bars are great around the area too

  • Nailya from Canada – 30 September 2024 (9/10)

The place was clean, perfect location, many attractions are minutes away. The apartment had a kitchen, a washing machine which was excellent for long travel. The host was very kind and friendly. Thank you!

The apartment is so clean, tidy, comfortable and quiet. The host was very friendly and gave me the keys and showed me the location of the accommodation. This is perfect for single stays.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Iraklis from United Kingdom – 23 October 2023 (8/10)

Liked the location as it was very central, room was nice.

  • William from Australia – 16 July 2023 (9/10)

Great apartment! Well located near to everything. Good facilities

What could be improved: Found it difficult to find the garbage drop. Its a fair walk. You can't leave any rubbish in your apartment. So some more precise info would be good. Including if we can use the local pickup service. Everyone else seemed to be putting the garbage out side their house on certain days.

  • Isaac from United States – 3 July 2023 (8/10)

Location and space itself is great

What could be improved: AC didn’t work

  • Sue from United Kingdom – 19 June 2023 (7/10)

Nice apartment, very well situated. Near a small supermarket and easy to find. Really enjoyed revisiting Venice and my thanks to Brigitte who waited for me with the keys. The apartment is easy walking distance from San Marco and lots of restaurants, cafe's and churches

What could be improved: Couldn't help but feel very surprised at finding there was no kettle in the apartment. So having a simple cup of tea was a struggle with a pan of hot water. Not the best. The bed is a sofa bed but it works and the apartment is very clean. 2 flights of stairs to get to it. The vaporetto takes 45 minutes from the airport so if you have light luggage your best stop is Ospedale as this would be quicker. To go around to the underneath of the island adds a further 1/2 hour so it took me a long time to get there

  • Irina from Israel – 9 June 2023 (7/10)

Location was very good, on a quiet street just outside the busy city but close to main attractions. A lot of good restaurants nearby. Communication with the managers of apartment was easy, they answered all my phone calls.

What could be improved: The bed was not comfortable, spilled water problem while showering I have read in the reviews from April-May was not resolve. Hair dryer was untouchable, it stuck to hands.

  • Alena from Germany – 18 May 2023 (8/10)

Convenient location: close to the water taxi, and sightseeing area, grocery and restaurants. There is a kitchen with a fridge and also a washing machine. I liked the window shutters. You may feel yourself as a genuine Venice resident :-). A simple apartment you can stay in.
I would like to add that the communication with the apartment managers was easy and prompt via sms or email. They cared about your proper check in (time and arrival time) in advance. Provided the official document about charges quickly upon request.

What could be improved: I had a problem with shower curtains – water was inevitably ran on the floor. The flush button for the toilet is damaged (sometimes it falls out). It could be improved I think. The hairdryer functionally good but the material degraded – so it must be replaced. The washing machine looked new but I did not use it – so can not comment on that.
The waste must be disposed by yourself which is inconvenient at the day of departure.
All these are the minor drawbacks to my opinion. If eliminated, it would be perfect.

  • Paul from United Kingdom – 23 April 2023 (9/10)

Very convenient location between main sights of Venice and Biennale. Amazing restaurants nearby. Spacious apartment with full kitchen.

What could be improved: Shower was a bit difficult to not spill water.
