Campo San Lorenzo Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Castello to find Campo San Lorenzo feels like you’re following a treasure map — and honestly, that’s part of the charm. This three-star property sits right on a quiet campo (that’s what locals call the small squares), and I mean quiet in the best possible way. You get all the authentic Venice atmosphere without the tourist crowds that swamp places like San Marco. The building itself has that weathered Venetian elegance you see in postcards, but what really struck me was how it feels like a neighborhood secret.

The Perfect Castello Location

Here’s what I love about staying in this part of Venice — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from the madness to actually breathe. The Arsenale is practically around the corner, and you can walk to St. Mark’s Square in about ten minutes when you feel like joining the crowds. But honestly, some of my best Venice moments happened just wandering the local streets near the hotel. There’s this little bakery two blocks away where the locals grab their morning pastries, and the evening aperitivo scene at the nearby bars feels genuinely Venetian rather than put on for tourists.

The Room Experience

My room was on the second floor facing the campo, and I actually spent way more time than expected just watching daily life unfold below. The space itself was compact but thoughtfully arranged — you know how Venice properties can feel cramped, but this one maximizes every inch without feeling claustrophobic. The bathroom was modern enough (always a relief in these historic buildings), and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. What really made the difference was the attention to details — good lighting for reading, enough outlets for your devices, and windows that actually open to let in that canal-scented Venice air.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have this lovely rhythm to them. You’ll hear the campo come alive gradually — first the early commuters heading to the vaporetto stops, then the shopkeepers opening up, and by mid-morning the gentle hum of neighborhood life. The staff genuinely knows the area and gave me directions that locals would use, not the tourist routes. They pointed me toward a fantastic osteria for dinner that I never would have found otherwise, and suggested the best times to visit popular spots when they’re less crowded.

Why Guests Love It

Look, if you want a resort-style experience with a pool and room service, this isn’t your place. But if you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Venice rather than just visiting it, Campo San Lorenzo hits that sweet spot perfectly. The location score speaks for itself — couples especially seem to get it, probably because there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of Venice to come home to each evening. It’s authentic without being rough around the edges, and positioned so well that you can explore the city easily but retreat to genuine neighborhood tranquility when you need it.

Reviews of Campo San Lorenzo

  • Marie from France – 3 March 2025 (10/10)

    L’espace, la propreté, le calme

What could be improved: Rien tout était parfait

  • Bertrand from France – 29 December 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Rien, tout était parfait

  • Filippo from Italy – 17 November 2024 (10/10)

Appartamento ampio e comodo per quattro persone, si affaccia sulla piazza, pulito e dotato di ogni comfort, a pochi metri da un supermercato, in un' ottima e tranquilla posizione.

  • Jean-pierre from France – 16 November 2024 (9/10)

Très bien placé au calme sur une place. Donc appartement lumineux. Bien entretenu. Très confortable. Chauffage central. Bonne literie. A 10 minutes place St Marc. Proximité bon restaurants et supérette. Hôte bienveillant.

What could be improved: Malgré double vitrage on entend légèrement les canots à moteur. C'est peu dérangeant..
Attention à quatre, le séjour reste modeste.

  • Philippe from France – 23 September 2024 (9/10)

    Emplacement top pour visiter Venise

  • Jade from Belgium – 28 August 2024 (9/10)

  • Roman from Czech Republic – 10 May 2024 (10/10)

The apartment has a great location, it's close to the center but in a quiet area. Pleasant owner. Everything was perfect:)

  • Peter from United States – 7 May 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: It was a bit warm for us at night, owner turned heat down, but would have liked the air conditioning turned on. Opened windows, but got some bug bites.

  • Olimpia from United Kingdom – 21 April 2024 (10/10)

We loved the appartement. It was very spacious and clean, decorated in a venetian style. The location and the facilities were great. The host was very kind and looked after us. Hope to come back there again. Thank you

  • Lisa from United Kingdom – 30 March 2024 (9/10)

Apartment was clean, well equipped and in a good location. Host was friendly, helpful and very responsive. We would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay.

What could be improved: Our only small suggestion would be an additional armchair/ small sofa in the sitting area but this really is just a suggestion. Overall we are very happy
