Casa Camilla Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to find Casa Camilla feels like discovering a secret that locals have been keeping to themselves. This three-star boutique property sits tucked away on Corte Zappa, and honestly, the address alone tells you everything — you’re in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods, far from the tourist chaos around San Marco. The entrance is understated in that perfectly Venetian way, where the real magic happens once you step inside.

Location & Neighborhood

Cannaregio is where I’d actually want to stay if I lived in Venice, you know? You’ve got the Jewish Quarter just a short walk away, with its incredible history and some of the city’s best bacari (those tiny wine bars that locals frequent). The thing about this location is that couples absolutely love it here — and I can see why. There’s something romantic about wandering these quieter canals in the evening, maybe grabbing a spritz at a neighborhood spot where you’re likely the only tourists. The vaporetto stops are close enough when you need them, but far enough that you’re not constantly dodging cruise ship crowds.

The Experience

What strikes me about Casa Camilla is how it manages to feel both intimate and polished without trying too hard. Each room has character — and I mean actual character, not the fake kind that chain hotels attempt with mass-produced “local” artwork. The staff here actually knows the neighborhood, which makes a huge difference when you’re looking for dinner recommendations or trying to figure out the best route to avoid the tourist bottlenecks. It’s the kind of place where they remember your name by the second day, but not in an overly familiar way.

What Makes It Special

The real charm here is in the details that you don’t expect from a three-star property. The building itself has that weathered Venetian elegance — you know, the kind where every stone has a story. From some windows, you catch glimpses of canal life that feels completely authentic, like watching neighbors chat across balconies or seeing delivery boats navigate the narrow waterways. The common areas have this lived-in quality that makes you want to linger with a book or just people-watch from the windows.

Why Guests Love It

I think what keeps people coming back to Casa Camilla is that it gets the balance right — you’re staying somewhere that feels genuinely Venetian without sacrificing comfort or cleanliness. The location score speaks for itself, but it’s more than just being well-positioned. It’s about waking up in a neighborhood where you hear church bells instead of tour groups, where you can grab fresh bread from a local bakery, and where evening walks feel like you’re discovering Venice rather than just visiting it. For couples especially, there’s something undeniably romantic about having this quieter corner of the city as your base while still being able to reach the major sights easily.

Apartments in Venice suit art students with beam-lined lofts, courtyard wells, and quiet campi.

Reviews of Casa Camilla

  • Una from Australia – 24 October 2024 (8/10)

Carlo was a fantastic host: met me at the waterbus stop to help with bags, even offering to bring welly boots because of the acqua alta! (Luckily I didn't need them) He was also on call whenever we needed help or advice. The flat and decor are dated, but it was all very comfortable and spacious. The location is superb: right in Cannaregio, my favourite place to stay in Venice.

What could be improved: The decor needs updating, and there was a small leak because of the rain, but luckily it didn't affect us too much.

  • Dorien from United Kingdom – 16 October 2024 (8/10)

Great location. Spacious apartment with good facilities. Quite neighbourhood within excellent local restaurants, bars and cafes

What could be improved: Bedding for sofa bed musty. Only small amount of toilet roll with no spare

  • Krikor from United Kingdom – 3 October 2024 (9/10)

    Spacious, clean, well located.

  • Lee from United Kingdom – 27 May 2024 (9/10)

Great location, not far from the railway station, a quieter canal (but with fab restaurants) and the lagoon. The apartment was very spacious, quiet and clean. Our host was friendly & very polite. We'd love to return next time we visit Venice.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Irene from Ireland – 14 February 2024 (9/10)

Great location to explore the Beautiful city. Very comfortable with everything needed for a pleasant stay. Spotless clean.Plenty of good restaurants nearby to eat and enjoy some refreshments.

What could be improved: Nothing negative

  • Raymond from United Kingdom – 7 September 2023 (9/10)

    n/a

What could be improved: The only small, very small thing, and NOT a criticism is that an iron would have been really handy. Everything else is there!

  • Pierre from Belgium – 2 November 2022 (9/10)

Great location, the apartment is fully equipped and Carlo is a very helpful host. A great place to stay for a few days in Venice!

  • Ivaylo from Bulgaria – 25 June 2022 (9/10)

The place is perfect for starting a trip to any direction in Venice.
There is a supermarket in a 15 min walking distance.
The place is far from main tourist traffic and is very quiet.

What could be improved: Like anywhere in Venice there's excessive moisture and it takes long for clothes to dry.
We were unprepared for the electric mains outlet standard that is used there, which is not DIN that is common in EU.

  • Michal from Czech Republic – 20 June 2022 (9/10)

Great location, very nice bistros and cafés nearby. Carlos was a very accomodating host.
