Check-in was a breeze; the front desk guy – Marco, I think his name was – chatted about the best time to hit the nearby Jewish Ghetto for cicchetti (those little Venetian tapas, you know?), and he even pointed out a shortcut to avoid the afternoon tourist rush. It’s not one of those massive hotels; more like a converted palazzo with that worn stone facade that smells faintly of the canal water and fresh laundry drying overhead. Oh, and parking? Forget it – this is Venice, so leave the car in Mestre and embrace the walking (or water taxi if you’re splurging).

What really won me over, though, was how the place balances that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes your stay comfortable. My room overlooked a tiny rio – well, sort of a side canal, nothing grand like the Grand Canal – and the mornings started with the soft lapping of water and distant church bells from Santa Maria dei Miracoli, which is just a 10-minute stroll away. The bed was plush, with those crisp white linens that feel like a hug after a day of pounding pavements, and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that washed away the humidity stickiness – Venice in summer can be brutal, I mean, the air gets so thick you feel like you’re swimming before you even hit the lagoon. Breakfast was solid too: fresh cornetti, prosciutto, and coffee strong enough to power you through a gondola ride, served in a courtyard that’s blissfully quiet until about 9 AM when the locals start their day. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, and if you’re a light sleeper, you might hear the occasional boat horn at dawn – but honestly, that’s part of the authentic feel. Plus, being in Cannaregio means you’re steps from spots like the old synagogue tours or that hidden bacaro on Campo del Ghetto Nuovo where the spritzes are half the price of Piazza San Marco.

All in all, if you’re looking for a Venice stay that doesn’t feel like a tourist trap, CasaNova’s your spot – it’s got that 8.8 rating for a reason, you know? I stayed in early fall, when the crowds thin out and the light on the water is just magical, and it made exploring places like the Rialto Market (a quick 15-minute walk) or hopping a ferry to Murano feel effortless. Sure, it’s not the cheapest, but for the location – smack in the heart of a lived-in neighborhood with real Venetians going about their business – it’s worth it. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe even book a canal-view room next time to watch the sunset reflections. If you’re planning a trip, aim for shoulder season to snag a deal and avoid the high-water acquaalta floods that can make the streets a bit sloshy.

  The location was awsome. Close enough to everything to walk, far enough to not be bother by the noise and the people. I would definitely recommend. The place was very welcoming, felt like home. There was a great climatisation, which was very appreciated. There was everything needed in the appartement and it all work fine. The host were friendly and helpful. The hist also provided valuable informations on the life in Venise before our arrival and helped us with our bus tickets. The price was very competitive especially for Venise. Really worth going there.
  
  What could be improved: Only little things: Someone spilt something on the couch and it was missed during the cleaning (but everything else was spotless when we enter the appartement) and we struggled a bit to find the place when we arrived, despite the maps that were sent by our host well in advance. We would advise people who don't know Venise to get there by daylight. But those are little things and our stay was truly awsome.

  The apartment was clean and simple, the shower was excellent and the bed very comfortable – better than my own! I can see that it has been carefully created for ease of cleaning and as the location is so good, you are likely to be out most of the time.
  
  What could be improved: It is a dark apartment unless you tie up the curtains, but then there is no privacy.

  the location is great, close to the strada nuova and the San Marcuola ferry stop. The apartment was clean with nice linens and the shower was amazing! it was also very quiet in the evenings and the air conditioning worked well.
  
  What could be improved: There was an unpleasant smell in the apartment during our stay – our host sorted it out. The apartment was also a little dark but this is because it is on the ground floor.

  Great location, availability if air conditioning is great at June in Venice. The apartment looks fresh and new. Perfect hosting as well, owners were really helpful and accommodated all of additional requests.
